Small Island | Free Assets Only | Environment Design | Level Art | Speed Level Design | Unity | HDRP

Hi:) It's been a long time since there was a scene on the channel made only of free assets, so this time I prepared "Small Island" for you. I again used mainly models from Book of the Dead and HDRP scene from Unity, but it's really hard to find free models on Assetstore that will match these in terms of quality. And this only confirms my belief that even if you have only a limited number of models, you can still create different environments:) Have a nice week:)
- 4K is only there to increase the bitrate of the movie, and to prevent KZread from completely killing the details of the scene.
⭐By buying this asset you support the channel :)

Thx:) I very rarely use this effect and in games it is an option that I immediately turn off:D I have to check if maybe they have improved something in it, because previously it had a really huge impact on performance.

@@SetaLevelDesign Yeah in games it is definitely hard to get right. On the one hand you have the performance issue, and on other the negative gameplay implications (maybe the player wants to focus on something in particular that is far away, but can't because it is all blurred out). However, for cinematics I think there are relatively no downsides to using it since performance isn't s big of an issue and you can direct the viewer attention to what you want them to focus on by blurring what is in the distance. In your case and for these types of videos where the goal is to create and showcase the realistic and beautiful environments you've created, I think it would really add to the final product. It would obviously mean more work as not only do you have to set up the camera movement, but also tell it at what distance to focus on. In filmmaking, there is a specific job for the person who handles the cameras focus known as the focus puller. All in all though, it shouldn't be that hard to set up. Another effect that might help add realism (and that most people also turn off) is motion blur. It is specifically useful for when you have dust particles or butterflies, or sparks in a scene. It really helps sell and capture their movement a bit more. Anyways, your environments look great and you don't have to listen to anything I say. Just keep up the great work!

Also, if your main issue is performance, you can always add an option to turn it off. Keep in mind that although not everyone will be able to play a game with the best quality settings, there are some people who will, and they will want the most enhanced experience possible.

Hey Seta, nice work as always. Wish i could set my ambient lightning this good someday :) What do you think of Megascans assets for Unity? I just found it is possible to import it inside Unity and is very nice.

  • @SetaLevelDesign

Megascan are very nice, it's a pity that Unity doesn't have something like that, especially since the entire base for Unreal is free. The only thing you need to pay attention to is the parameters of the models you use. I once used a rock model which was very nice, I placed several of them, only then it turned out that I had 60M tris and 8fps on the scene:)
