In this simulation, a smaller galaxy orbits a larger galaxy in such a way that brings it through the disk of the larger galaxy, disrupting it, and the small galaxy then merges into the the larger galaxy. This leaves some small satellite galaxies orbiting outside the new large galaxy, formed from the outskirts of the original.

Nice video. What is time scale approximately ?

Not sure, I can't find the save file for it. The timestep for sims like this usually is some fraction of a million years so these would take many millions of years, perhaps even into the billions range for slower ones.
