So question, help me out here. I just picked up the predator 459cc motor. We are allowed to run a aftermarket pipe and air filter assembly. I will be adding a spacer between carburetor and block for a pulse fitting. Have to leave governor on and cannot exceed 3650 max. Should I do anything jet wise to the carburetor?? Thanks.. This is for a racing lawn mower.

Might be not enough gas. .38 seems low. What type of engine are you using? Howmany CC? NT or Hp carb? Judging from when you said it kicks out It needs more gas than you're jet is giving it. The only two problems i could see is to much or to little gas. Hope it helps

What are you using the engine for? The extra jets that come with the 224 are for higher altitudes when using the engine for utility purposes. You wouldn't want to use the extra jets for the minibike or go kart application.

My bike idles extremely high after startup. The idle screw makes no difference. Should I go up or down on the pilot jet?

  • @crazyDIYguy

That means your pilot jet is plugged typically if your idle screw doesn't change anything. If not something else is gummed up in the carb.

I have performance exhaust and intake installed and I just jumped from the stock .028 to a .038 jet on my predator 212. It runs great at idle and with a little gas but at anything higher than that it sputters and falls on its face. Do I need to buy a smaller jet or is there something I can adjust on the carb itself.my float bowl is also leaking fuel even when the engine is off. Any thoughts on what I should do? Thanks

Jet down to a 36 and clean out the carburetor inside and out, when you mount the carb. Turn the gas off and start tapping the float bowl with a wrench or something preferably rubber and while tapping turn the gas on and keep tapping for a few moments. Thats always worked for me

@@minibikegarage1577 just tried this out to no avail. It didn’t have this issue until I took the bowl off to install the new jet. The leak doesn’t start until I shake the bike around and then it won’t stop until I turn off the gas. I didn’t install a new bowl gasket after I took it off so that could be the issue although it is a relatively new engine. Thanks for the tips though👍🏼

It depends honestly. Some symptoms of a lean or rich condition will act very similar. Best way i found is to put your hand over the entry of the carburetor. If it runs better with your hand covering about 1/2 of it for example it means your lean. Putting your hand over the opening makes a stronger vaccuum and pulls more fuel through the jets. Another way is to pull the plug and inspect the color. Do it by throttle position and not rpm. If it has a 1/4 stumble or hesitation ride at 1/4 throttle and read the plug to make a decision on whether its lean or rich. Do the same with 1/2, 3/4 and full throttle. Sometimes spark plug color is deceptive and you may need more or less fuel to make the most power. Ive had plugs look spot then i jet it up till it looks almost border line rich with a dark brown color and it made more power and pulled harder. Just feel it out and figure out what your motor responds too and youll get it down.

What size pilot jet do you usually run? I think the stock size is around .016". I may open mine up a bit because the off idle is not as good as it could be. What I don't like about the Huayi carbs is I'm not sure where to get the low speed jets. If I had to buy a carb I would get the RuiXing carb from ARC racing. They also have all the low speed jets for it. Supposed to be one of the best stock carbs you could get under $20. Their low speed jets will not fit the Huayi.

I dont remember what size it. Mine are all unlabeled. I actually setteled with the stock size pilot jet bc it gave me the smoothest idle and its the easiest to start when cold. I had a 20 thousandths bigger one than stock that i bought from omb warehouse i put it. It definitely helped with off idle acceleration but the idle wasnt smooth and it was a tad more cold blooded. I have a huayi and ruixing carb. Ill take a look at the pilot jet bc thats interesting they dont interchange.

Yea they do. It doesnt say specifically for the huayi carb, its just run of the mill pilot jet for a general 6.5 hp style engine carb. Tou should be ok with them. Ive never drilled a jet before, thats something id like to try one day. On their site i believe its listed as .020 thou bigger than the stock predator one.
