SMA ShadeFix | A Superior Optimization Technique | Presented By Soligent

An independent study entitled “The Impact of Optimizers for PV Modules” carried out by the University of Southern Denmark concluded that SMA ShadeFix outperforms traditional module-based optimizers, which require additional hardware.
SMA ShadeFix optimization is a proprietary, integrated inverter technology that optimizes PV system energy production in almost every situation. Yes, even when shading is an occurrence.
Conventional module optimizers work continually, consuming unnecessary power at times. SMA ShadeFix optimization operates with full efficiency in mind. Putting less stress on components and decreasing service risk, all while generating greater energy production.

Excellent presentation. The competition had be believing all of their BS before I saw this presentation. Thank you

Great lecture of SMA, you present SMA product more than a sell man on marketing way.

What I say is the top three criteria for choosing an inverter are: 1) reliability 2) reliability 3) reliability I've tried all the top brands in grid-tied inverters and am back to only using SMA....

That’s funny, in the EU SMA has got terrible warranty policies. If one breaks they want full inverter back before they warranty it, not providing replacement for installer

So, if I understand shadefix... The inverter will detect the shaded panel and so it will automatically adjust the voltage to try and keep the current flowing at the same amps?

I have a SunnyBoy Inverter with ShadeFix. I also have panel-level Tigo optimizers. Should I keep the ShadeFix option on or should I turn it off? Not sure if there's any benefit to having both...

So how do I not use an optimizer since I need to disconnect every panel? Maybe fewer electronics on the roof but not eliminating it.

Hi Mark! The SMA US-41 models of inverter have a SunSpec certified rapid shutdown transmitter that works with low-cost, simple and reliable SunSpec receivers (i.e. SMA JMS-F, APsmart RSD) - like a switch the transmitter can turn off. Power-consuming optimizers are not required to touch every module to achieve code compliance. SunSpec shutdown works in conjunction with ShadeFix to maximize energy harvest AND system reliability while providing full code compliance in any situation.

@@HomeEnergy you do need one on every panel if you need to stay under 80V in the array... Unless you are using panels with a voltage of less than 40v, and even them it is every other at best.

@@markavery2888 you’re correct - one JMS-F or APsmart RSD per solar mod ;)

    What is the difference between on the core 1 inverter in between ? Rated MPP voltage range 330 V … 800 V 500 V … 800 V 550 V … 800 V and MPPT operating voltage range 150 V … 1000 V

Residential Max 600V per string, Commercial Max 1000V per string Commercial has more built in MPPT Inverters (6) plus the extra Voltage per string lets you build more efficeint solar system at the lowest cost point and fewest parts.

14:33 "So when you string, in this case, five modules together." WTF? He can't count up to six? There are SIX panels on that diagram.

And more importantly, none of the other commenters noticed this glaring error? Where are the independent tests of SMA's Shadefix, Tigo's optimisers, and Solar Edge's micro inverters?
