I have three favorite babies: the first is Scavpup, named for the fact that he somehow came out scavenger brown. Never seen a pup that color before or since - usually the dark orange shades still look orange, but not this little guy. Scavpup is ingenious and loves to surprise me; I laughed at him for trying to kill a batfly with a rock and then two tries later he actually DID IT and I was like what (seriously, I did not know you could do that until he did it). He’s really good at taking what’s randomly on the ground that I haven’t even paid attention to and using it. Scavpup’s also really got a knack for somehow dancing around lizard bites I swear should have him dead to rights while fighting them and winning Next is Maria, who is both the oldest and a bright magenta with lavender-gray eyes. She’s incredibly good at parkour and combat both. I can reliably trust her to not fall off a cliff if she’s not holding my hand, and the fact that she’s pretty good in a fight is just a bonus. Like this slugpup is legit better at the game’s parkour than I am lol. I’m so proud of her, she definitely didn’t get it from me ^^’ Finally there’s Latte, named for his hysterically low energy and nervousness stats (like, 0.01 and 0.02 respectively). He’s a very dark red color and has the personality of someone who has no craps to give until they’ve had their morning coffee, it’s glorious. Latte’s not as good at the other two in combat but that’s fine, he’s good at other things - like batfly shish-kebobs. He is stupidly good at spearing those things from across the room while I’m staring at him like what lol. His current record is three batflies, I’m morbidly curious to see if that grows - I haven’t even taken him out of Industrial Complex yet! Ending on a wholesome note, I swear he’s taught Scavpup how to make batfly shish-kebobs because his older brother sure hadn’t done it before Latte came along. A nice brotherly bonding moment 💛

Latte sounds like me before I’ve had my coffee, but I don’t drink coffee lol I swear, the AI of this game is gonna make me get the game myself, I want to raise an entourage of mini scugs as a goofy gastropod goon squad or raid a scav toll with a legion of lizards

they're like little monkeys! if you give infinite slugpups infinite time, one of them will eventually live

wow! I didn't know that slugpups instinctually knew how to use spore puffs, nor that puncturing a cyan in a specific spot it is why they sometimes stop launching themselves after getting injured. I think either because of the stats on these slugpups or the ai mod they never ended up picking up the vulture mask. Too much food and too active for them to pause and find out what kind of item they prefer to hold outside of combat. Maybe try another experiment without any active batfly colonies to see how they react to different objects? Slugpups are quite interesting because they give an insight on the natural behaviors of slugcats outside of the player's control. They use tools to kill prey like it's second nature and I believe they can even eat dead large centipedes if they're taught how to. If there was a player-controlled slugcat on the map anywhere during testing they like would have hung out with them. Their behavior changes after they eat in the presence of an adult slugcat and they end up sort of taming themselves lol the nature doctumentary/lab experiment style storytelling is so fun

The fact that Onion took multiple breaks to eat during it’s brutal murder of the green lizard is hilarious 😂

Tbh this just makes me want a spin-off where you keep a terrarium of these little guys and see how the populations change over time. (I know we have safari mode, but I was thinking more like Creatures or Niche: a Genetics Survival)

the pup that throwed rock to beehive was actualy tryed to hit batfly hehe slugpups are realy good at hitting batflys with a rock tbh im very proud of them

It's so hard to resist the urge to pick them up and carry them everywhere. I'm terrified they'll die!! This has convinced me to try and get over my fears though. Their AI is crazy! I wasn't sure it would be, since they were scrapped originally and only added back in with the DLC--like I thought that would be because they were half-baked, but... apparently not! Or, I guess they put them back in the oven, if they used to be less clever. Great script and "narration", btw! it was super entertaining.

I was testing with slugpups in safari, also with better pup ai mod. They sometimes get stuck trying to climb poles with a roof. Probably a bug. (I couldn't move or even drop items when i got stuck like this) Also they pick up items on the ground automatically and behave weirdly on horizontal poles too, this is probably why they have a hard time with that bridge on industrial complex near shaded citadel.

For anyone who wishes to spawn some slug pups with more aggressive personality traits, I have you covered! IDs: 4246 , 4682, 4154, 3792, 3987, 6829 (has a bravery trait at 1.00) and my favourite: 9491 (agg = 0.94, brv = 0.89, dom = 0.82, nrg = 0.91, nrv = 0.61, sym = 0.06 I am not too sure which trait affects them the most in compelling them to save you when you are currently being taken away, but I would assume bravery and sympathy?

this reminds me of that one time i had 4 slugpups alone after a lizard killed me. They killed 2 green lizards and 4 pinks. that was one of the coolest things ive seen slugpups do

Onion was such a little badass. I wonder why both Jib and Onion died in a similar way, clinging to the top of the climbing poles and not moving much while a threat approaches?

Cant tell if its AI or Players controlling the slug pups, they act so natural and smart, this is something this game has nailed absolutely perfectly.

If anyone wants to know, here's the mods Batflight used. ID finder to get the IDS, Dev Console (workshop mod version) to spawn the slugpups with the ID, and beastmaster occasionally. (Also blood mod)

3:39 my personal theory is that these are purposed organisms developed as a means of farming tough elastic string (for king vulture tethers, for example), hence why they're mainly found on agricultural grounds. It would be a simple collecting process: remotely "activate" the bugs, they make string, then die immediately and you collect that string. The signature attack was never meant to be successful.
