    Wow such a great explanation! I have a good few years of experience with daylight photography, but I am dabbling with flash photography more recently, as I love some of the effects it produces. I even used this slow shutter effect before, but now I finally understand why things work the way they do. Huge thanks for the sync modes explanation at the end too, had no idea of what those did.

    Wow, I learned SO much from this video. I didn't know my camera could produce such a cool effect! Thank you. Quick question though: do you know why sometimes the SLOW TTL option is not available on the Fuji X100V? Sometimes only the normal TTL flash is possible. I tried switching the aperture and shutter to manual or auto but it doesn't fix the problem...and I can't find the answer anywhere online.

    Thanks Eddy I’ve never thought of turning the preview in the screen off for framing with flash, I just use the viewfinder selector because I don’t use the screen much at all but good to know there’s a way of doing this 👍

    I only realised you could do it a few months back when I was in the studio and I was like ‘hang on, surely there’s a better way to do this’ haha. Using the OVF is a good workaround though, I usually do that when using the built in flash but at this gig when I had 50 people spin kicking each other behind me, I opted for the screen so I could keep an eye out for my own safety hahaha Thanks for watching!

    If budget wasn’t really an issue, is the Q20 the flash you’d absolutely recommend for the X100? Love your content so much legend

  • @EddyMaynard

    @EddyMaynard

    4 ай бұрын

    No, mine sometimes has connection issues (maybe 20% of the time) which make it a little unreliable for paid work. Other than that, it’s great, but if money was no issue I’d buy a ef-x20 for on top of the camera, and a seperate speed light with wireless triggers for when I wanted off camera flash. But for the budget, this one can’t be beaten! When it works, it’s great. Thanks very much!!

  • @EddyMaynard

    @EddyMaynard

    Yes! Ideally for outdoor you’d want to use an external flash at a high setting, and use the build in ND filter on the x100 to cut out daylight but still get that slow shutter. Aperture probably around f16-22

    Does IBIS affect the light trails?

  • @EddyMaynard

    @EddyMaynard

    4 ай бұрын

    If you’re using a camera with ibis, it might yes. Throwing the camera to one side like I was doing in the video will still create movement but the ibis will try to correct it as much as possible so it will have *some* effect, albeit probably a very small one. For full control, I’d probably turn it off if you were doing this kind of photography, but I really don’t think it would make a big difference. Ibis is super handy if you want to use rear curtain sync though, like the example with the runner towards the end of the video. For that kind of light trail, you’re probably going to want the camera to be as still as possible and let the subject (in that case, the runner) do all the moving. So for this, ibis would be an advantage.
