Dave: While some might not like this type of instructional video, I LOVE THIS Content. It is nessasary and important content for NEWB's like I was under a year ago. It promotes early adoption of moving beyond stock set ups, (which in Carrera's case suck. It shows people they can easily ( with this style instruction) rebuild cars they like, no longer in production and restore older used cars. It motivates new car classes to race in clubs. I can't tell you how many old Ninco, SCX, Scalextric etc used car bodies i have bought, then customized to modern NSR Slot.it performance standards by added 3D chassis, Slot.it pods Predator motors, CBD wheels, NSR tires etc. Racing is one part of this hobby, but model making and tuning something old and broken to become of new value again is one of the most gradifying aspects of this hobby, the one where old guys play with toy cars, then race the shit out of them!

Hi Dave, great info as usual. For me the mechanical and electrical aspects of slot cars and tracks come naturally. What I appreciate most is the information you provide as to what stuff is out there and where to get it. How would I have known that Slot it makes a replacement rear for carrera and I can only imagine how much info I’m lacking! Thanks for all you’ve done for guys like me!

The rear axle is a very much needed upgrade on some models. Sometimes the stock wheels are so out of true there is no saving them, the car is so inconsistent it's quite frustrating. I wish slot.it used a bigger wheel though, those are way too small and wont fit most of the cars, even the DTM cars for which the kit is made for.In general metal wheels for Carrera cars are very difficult to find but slotdevil (a German company) makes them and also makes a kit similar to the slot.it one: tuning kit A24, but also sell the wheels loose, the diameter is 18.5mm. They are still a tad too small for the stock tires, but aftermarket tires that should fit well are available, such as Ortmann.

If someone was to get in the hobby and lives in the states, what platform is the best for getting part, upgrades, not costing a fortune? Can the tracks be mixed from other builders?

Not sure what your version of "not costing a fortune" is. All the tracks cost within a few dollars of each other. Policar's track is the cheapest though. There are some tracks to adapt one type of manufacturer to another but the cheapest way is to get used track.

@@SlotCarNewsOfficial Since I am new to the hobby I do not have a good perspective on cost and value, what is better or worse. I am familiar with other hobbies were addons like O scale trains can get pricey. I am not sure if I should go Scalextric or Carrera, I do have an Carrera Go track, and I found a really good deal for an Scalextric with tons of nice stuff for 300.

@@Moondoggy1941 so most companies make pretty much comparable stuff. I've worked for both Carrera and Scalextric and both systems are solid and good value for money. There are differences but in the end if you have a good deal on something you like go with that.

0.035" driver is 0.9mm
