Sloppy Cube - Why is this magic cube puzzle so absurdly hard to scramble?

Sloppy Cube is a cubic shapemod of Melty D, suggested by David Tzur. The dihedral angle between axes is 87 degrees. This makes the cube look sloppy, even though it is highly accurate, and all faces are identical. As analysed by Bram Cohen, Melty D is a fascinating puzzle to get scrambled. Modding it into a cube makes it a bit more accessible to the general cubing public.

    Is there a universal starting position or something so all algorithms read the same? Is it red on the right, blue in back, etc like one app I use to time my solves seems to expect as a starting position based on the scrambled state preview it shows with the randomly generated scramble?

    I would say: this is a rubiks cube, but it isn‘t. You can solve it, but you can‘t. It is one of a kind, but it isn‘t, because Mr. Van Deventer invents them daily. And now you know, why I am out of money.

    I would guess that at any moment there aren't much more than one or two possible moves you can make while trying to solve it so it wouldn't be that hard. To get it scrambled in the first place seems a lot harder to me

    Very, very unique idea. I've seen a lot of strange an unusual designs for twisty puzzles, many of them designed by you and others by other designers, but this one is a DEFINITE new twist on the entire cubing genre.... no pun intended. Very odd design, but it's a fun idea, and I like fun and crazy ideas like this.

    It's for sale in the description, keep in mind this is 3d printed with a special process and made to order so it doesn't have the benefit of mass production where a lot are made and reduces the price. Also this is not injection moulded like a lot of twisty puzzles are mass produced so that will have a different feel/ will need to be assembled yourself.

  • @BeatlesCuber

    @@mkjk2534 quality is in design, as you can see dollar store cubes are not the best but are mass production, while a puzzle like the one in the video are not intended for speed solving are good quality. There are speed cubes that are mass produced that are good but when you 3d print them in this material it doesn't feel good despite the quality of a polished injection mould.

  • @KCML82

    @KCML82

    4 жыл бұрын

    @@unvergebeneid I do agree some of Oskars videos are teaser like. Because of the slightly angled cuts, once you make a turn, different angles align, effectively "bandaging" the cube, limiting the ways you can continue. In a way similar to the PocketCube, but less obvious.
