My suggestions here are probably no more applicable to this novel mechanism than to a conventional pivoted-leaf iris: Nappy bin, kitchen bin, food waste bin. There's a theme here. Cat flap. These applications would still need addition of a control ring. Linear ball bearing slides in those dovetails might mean no need for a control ring: just move one leaf relative to its neighbour and the rest will conform. However in all these applications the overall assembly would still need a common mounting ring with bearings to each leaf.

I would guess that the absence of a central synchronizing mechanism makes it way easier to lock up, needing far tighter tolerances for smooth operation than other mechanisms. So while super interesting, I don't see this as very practical for most common applications.

hello oskar puzzle, i am having a baby soon and in addition to the mozart music I figured i would substitute the shaped blocks with shaped holes toy with this fractal puzzle to give them a baby brain boost. 1000mg of vitamin D and 500mg of vitamin C. Where can I buy this puzzle? the website does not work. Right now I am teaching my baby sign language through the fetus wall and progress is good. She kicks when I sign "kick". How beautiful. Have a nice day oskar.

I think the coolest gift would be a fisherman’s “stretching” “meter” - when the fisherman talks about his catch, the size of the fish increases from story to story. So this puzzle can easily increase, but at the same time remains rigid, as if nothing had happened. You can also design it in the shape of a fish or fishing rod. Or for a motorist as a jack. For a musician, trombone or accordion. For the doctor... uh... well, we're skipping that. A policeman's wand. And for a child, a pyramid or a tower! 🙂 THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 🙂

a snake themed one could be cute. maybe the puzzle could even include some curved segments (not nescacarily functional, idk if thatd be possible) to make it look more serpentine, which would also make turning the puzzle pretty fun id imagine.

Don't get me wrong... these designs are beautiful!!! Kudos!!! But... Is it only me? 'Binary' puzzles, much like those 'japanese boxes' with 256+ repeatitive movements are soooo boring... I mean, once you get the basic movement sequence figured out, it's just 'apply, rinse, repeat'... Maybe it's a profitable niche, in the puzzle industry, but I don't think it's adding anything to the 'great scheme of things'. #IMHO
@OskarPuzzle14 күн бұрын
The appeal of a binary puzzle is similar to solving a Rubik's Cube for the 100th time, or solving yet another Sudoku puzzle. In all of these, one needs to study and see how this particular puzzle works. And one needs to remain concentrated while solving. Some binary puzzles have dead ends or loops, so there could be multiple solution paths or wrong moves. But even those with only a single path can create confusion. If you lost track of the solution directly, you could accidentally start moving backward. It takes intellectual effort to determine which move takes you forward. Hence my saying "one can get lost in a Belgian maze". I own many binary puzzles, where I admire the mechanism and figure out how to solve it. But indeed, the actual solving is only interesting to repeat Rubik's and Sudoku solvers ...

Would it be possible to design a Zigguring puzzle? Where the solved state is a larger expanded ring or perhaps a ring that has been bent out-of-plane? I think the answer might be no because of the inherent endianess in the binary-counter based design.

Those steering wheel locking mechanisms involve a stretched state as the "locked" state - maybe this could become a puzzle where you have to unlock a steering wheel by un-stretching the ziggustretch? The rotation of the steering wheel could also come into play as a puzzle element

So, basically, you shaved the sides off a screw to make it square and then you took a nut threaded the same and put curves corners in it until its hole was square. That actually looks cool. I mean, it's less material theoretically, but I don't see it holding as tightly as it being threaded all the way around.
