Lyrics
For this great land, we've done us proud.
I sailed the seas in search of freedom,
I tilled the soil for seed to grow,
I built the fences to hold the cattle,
I mined the earth in search of gold.
I sheared the sheep of golden fleeces,
I formed the union, to win fair pay,
I built a railroad to cross the country,
I fought a war for the countrys sake.
We've done us proud to come this far
Down through the years to where we are
Side by side, hand in hand, we've lived and died,
For this great land, we've done us proud
I kept a home and raised a family,
I taught your children as if my own,
I painted pictures to show the beauty,
I wrote the stories to keep the flame.
We've done us proud to come this far
Down through the years to where we are
Side by side, hand in hand, we've lived and died,
For this great land, we've done us proud
(We've done us proud) I worked the factory,
(To come this far) I worked the land,
(Two hundred years) I built the houses,
(To where we are) I baked the plan,
(Side by Side) I drive the highway,
(Hand in Hand) I right the wrong,
(We've lived and died) I reach for glory,
(For this great land) I sing the songs,
(We've done us proud).
(To come this far) To come this far,
(Two hundred years) Two hundred years,
(To where we are) To where we are,
(Side by side) Side by side.
(Hand in Hand) Hand in Hand,
(We've lived and died)
Slim Dusty, AO MBE (born David Gordon Kirkpatrick; 13 June 1927 - 19 September 2003) was an Australian country music singer-songwriter, guitarist and producer. He was an Australian cultural icon and one of the country's most awarded stars, with a career spanning nearly seven decades and numerous recordings. He was known to record songs in the legacy of Australia, particularly of bush life and renowned Australian bush poets Henry Lawson and Banjo Paterson that represented the lifestyle. The music genre was coined the "bush ballad", a style first made popular by Buddy Williams, the first artist to perform the genre in Australia, and also for his many trucking songs. Dusty was the first Australian to have a No. 1 international hit song, with a version of Gordon Parsons' "A Pub with No Beer". He received an unequalled 37 Golden Guitar and two Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA) awards and was inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame and the Country Music Roll of Renown

This man is an absolute bloody legend. I'm aboriginal and this song inspired me to play guitar.
This song was the first song to be played at my grandmother's funeral, and I honestly couldn't even last till the second chorus. Slim Dusty truly is one of the greatest Australian singers, and he pretty much embodies the Australian Spirit. Love you Slim. Miss you Grandma.

My Dad was a NASA engineer. Crew Systems. I was home. He was sitting in front of the TV. Phone off the hook. He did not come home for 2.5 days. Apollo 13 blew up behind the moon. They had 1.0 hour of breathable air left. All the centers je said worked on the solution. I suspect he figured out the solution. Wouldn't take credit though,; they called him back to work. It was Wednesday.

A true Australian, the Man who is Australia with his legacy his songs will go on forever. This song is the national anthem to me and many others, A truly wonderful and masterpiece of Australia.
Whilst not this song, my grandfather would put on a Slim song on his old 45rpm player. Grandad passed decades ago, but I've had records, cassettes and CDs from then on. Also, Grandad looked and dressed like Slim. Love you Slim for the enjoyment. R.I.P.
What a great Australian Slim you are sorely missed ,your memory will live on you are one of the great Australians RIP
I think Slim is one of the best person ever lived in this world. Lots of love from Switzerland

Love slim he was so special I play his songs most days Great Australian
Thank you Slim for this song to us. If you only know how much we need to listen to your song at this time in the life of Australia and Australians.
Goose bumps on me. I am an American who loves listening to Slim sing for his country people.
Slim just gets better and better .... and even more betterer .... his effort maturing like a grange hermitage
A true blue dinky di Aussie. This song stirs the emotions n visions of my grand parents who were born in Victoria n crossed Australia as a young couple with one child in 1903 n worked a farm in Pingelly n in 1920 they walked his horses, chatells n family n workmen to Newdegate where the Govt gave him land n as Slim said they crossed the country n cleared the land.
Just discovered Slim's music and learned who he was. This is a beautiful song, beautifully sung.
2024 Aussie Song, what a legend, wish i had time, lovely, thanks for the share England 🇬🇧
I love this song, and listen to it once a day. Born in Australia. Mackay raised in California and now my daughter and grandkids are in Mackay, she is married to an Australian.

Despite the fact of not being australian citizen, this is one of my very favorite songs, ans this by far!
One of his best songs. Love it so much 🥰🥰🥰

Good old Slim. Im a English man born in London. Im going to a friends wedding in London who is English born. He went to Australia and worked hard but has returned and met a English lady. We have all travelled and his family are Irish and landed in the Uk. So many people leave their land. Dusty is a legend who sings from the heart. This song could be about Irish leaving or English. What Im trying to say is Im from Irish family but London born worked in Oz too. God bless Australia and all who have landed to make their home. What a country, God bless you all and Slim too
