Great post! I was wondering if you could do a video on little beats like the one you show at the end to put slide licks over. I couldn't quite catch what you're doing in the video for that bass beat and I'd like to play that as well. Keep up the great work!

Hi John, one question about personal taste; how do you think playing with the guitar in a traditional position (like you do) compares to playing with it in your lap? I don't play slide very much but I am quite familiar with several open tunings, and when I play slide I find it inhibits me to hold it in the traditional sense and that it gives me much more freedom to put the guitar on my lap and hold the slide in my hand. Thanks for the good videos.

On your lap is fine. I play like that sometimes. I like it better if I’m only playing slide. I usually hold it like a normal guitar because I use my fingers and a slide. Thanks for your interest.

It is a Regal. It’s an inexpensive import that I had some upgrades added. It is laminated wood,; I’m guessing, spruce and mahogany.

It’s a resonator or reso-phonic guitar. They come in all metal or wood with just a metal resonator. This is a Regal, an important brand that I had upgraded. It is wood with a metal resonator. The 2 best known names for these types of guitars are Dobro and National.

Look for a Regal. They are imported from China. They are much less than the American made and are a decent resonator guitar to start on.

Depending on what others are playing, one can also just play the 5th and root and not play the 3rd.
