Thanks Mr Curtis. I experienced joy and had a silly grin throughout.
Beautiful for my ears - augasmic! Thank you so much.
Great job, my Grandfather taught me to play some Slack Key over 50 years ago, I love the sound of open G.
I play this tune with friends and really appreciate this intro to add a little interest. Tyvm
Love this tune and this rendition is more accessible than the doc Watson, which I appreciate:)
I guess i have to buy a mandolin now...
Great stuff. Greeting from Dublin Ireland. You’ve got another subscriber. Thanks for sharing 👏👏👏👏🙏🏿
What year is that gibson?
What the Devil? LOL. In the studio, who played mandolin on this track? Anybody knows, Jerry Garca?
Nice tutorial abit of a challenge for me il give it a whirl thanks you much obliged ❤❤❤❤
That is a 14 fret one, right?
Indeed it is.
@@jcurtis30water So, I could special order it? Thanks for the video info too, btw!
Might be the most difficult piece I learn, thanks lot Cheers from France
Yes, this is a challenge, but worth the effort! Good luck my friend.
Bravo, very nice tutorial that is not available elsewhere. Thank you
You are welcome! Glad it was helpful!
Really well presented and explained John! Thanks so much! How do I get the tab?
Hi Bob, The tab is $10. If you’re still interested, contact me at [email protected]. and I’ll give you payment details. Thanks. John.
Been singing this song "in my head" for decades. It was about time to make it audible. I took up guitar upon retirement and have been at it now for close to 2 years. Developing finger style has become my focus. Appreciate your approach and clear direction. Thanks.
Glad the video was helpful! Keep practicing, you’ll get it!
thank you john curtis
You are very welcome Jessica.
Hey John, thanks a bunch. Great job. Mind if i ask the model of your guitar. Martin, I believe, based on the nice pickguard I assume it's a higher end model. Thank you
You’re welcome Brandy. My guitar is a Larrivee LV03. Not sure they make this model anymore. It’s about 13 years old.
Thank you
You're welcome, enjoy.
Cool ending!
Thanks David!
Nice
Which is this mandolin?
Thank you. This is a Gibson A model from 1921.
❤❤❤
🙏🙏🙏
Please provide a tab

Excellent
Thank you! Cheers!
would it be possible to do another where you break it down into sections for mando challanged?
I tried to do that. Is it too fast for you?
I emailed you about this almost a year ago I don’t know if you ever saw it but I’m very happy to see it on the channel
Glad I finally got it done!
Great lesson thanks for braking down the tab I am a beginner so need the detail you provided thanks again
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks John! Wonderful job!
Thanks Jeffery. I like the way it sounds on the mandolin.
69th thumbs up, nice
🙏🙏
Damn my mans like liquid dynamite. Thanks for sharing your talent.wish you were in Michigan cause I need to play with someone else that plays.
Thank Pablo, keep looking, there’s gotta be some one out there.
This is actually in the key of D but the capo makes the C shape. And I'm really glad to find a capo'ed version of the D. When I play it in first position- no capo, it's harder to articulate all the notes. Thank you so much for this.
You’re very welcome.
Please Please please do a tutorial of this!
I have one. Look for the rain song mandolin tutorial John Curtis.
Well done John! Nice and pretty simple two string runs to dress it up! Thx!
Thank you sir!
I like it! Do you have a tab sheet?
Sorry Steve, it’s in the pipeline. I’ll post when I have it done.
❤
🙏🙏
😊
This is fun to play! Thank you!
Beautiful mandolin.
Thanks Pablo, it’s a Gibson F-2 built in 1922.
It is rumored Renee drowned in a tsunami of her tears listening to this rendition. Stunning beauty. Renee & these lovely notes. Such talent Sir. TY.
I’ve always loved this song. Glad that you enjoyed my take on it.
❤
🙏🙏🪕
Thanks so much for putting this up, really getting a lot out of it. I appreciate you taking the time to share this with us!
My pleasure! Sharing is what makes music better!
Hey John! I am back in the saddle with mando :) revisiting this and wondering what lovely lilting strum pattern you’re using at the beginning? My version sounds much more disjointed. Thanks and hope you are doing well!!
Thank you for the wonderful playing. Also, I appreciate you demonstrating how you play your version. I would like to try to learn this from you. The cross picking you are doing is a challenge for me. 👏
It’s a beautiful tune. Just play the melody and enjoy. Then try the fancy stuff.
That is beautiful. Thank you I will try to do it justice
Thank you, hope you enjoy playing it.
So beautiful ❤
Thank you Alesia! It’s one of my favorite Hendrix tunes.
This is amazing!! Thank you!!! 😍
You're so welcome!
Thanks!
You bet!
Nice explanation. Thank you.
My pleasure, enjoy that slide!
Oh that is wonderful. Thanks so much my friend. Sounds amazing.
Glad you like it! A lot of Zeppelin sounds good on the mando.
Fine offering of the basics, John. During the turnaround portion you often call the chords by the wrong names, not that it matters much.
Thanks Graham! I mentioned that I called out some incorrect chord names in the description. Embarrassing? Yes but too lazy to redo the video.
Interesting. I'm going to try this on the octave mandoline I bought last month. Quite a challenge for a bass-player ;-)
Cool! I’ll bet it will work.
From u.k. My son played bass for years, and bought a mandolin and was all over it in no time. You will be fine.
@@madcyril4135 I guess you're right. I already use the octave mandolin in two songs with my band (I leave the bass to our accordionist there.). By the way, I continue to play bass in the other songs, cause I'm a real bassman ;-)
@@56Jeannot Yes my two lads both still play bass in bands now in their 30s. I have to say the instrument has a certain appeal, I worked for 35 yrs with Pino Palladinos brother in law. So that with my Pastorius albums lying around the house you can guess the rest! An absolute nightmare for me being an unpaid roadie. Different gigs miles apart, same night! Equipment, car, weather, parking problems, access old venues. Got helped out a few times by professional roadies, great blokes. Went to see my eldest play last week at an open mike night. Him playing bass, he has a Warwick thumb, and a spectre. And his mate playing an acoustic guitar, they don’t gig as much these days, but I used to love it. take care.
