SLEEPING ON A LAKE IN A FISHING TENT at -32 DEGREES!! (FISHING TENT turned HOT TENT - EPIC TRIP!!)

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Based in Northeastern Canada, my son (Andrew), my dog (Willow) and I set out with our winter tent on an ice fishing trip on one of the coldest days of winter. It was a test to see how we could endure the night in such arctic temps and still remain comfortable. Cooking up fine wild game meals plus the comfort of ice fishing holes inside the tent made everything more than worthwhile and just added to the adventure. Join us on this epic trip and discover an amazing feat at the very end of the video!!

The loud booms your hearing is the slush freezing and releasing pressure , also likely why you had the ice fog early morning . We get this same thing in northern Ontario on those deep cold nights . Also tip from an army guy , don’t blow your thermal rest up by mouth and try and use the cover as much as possible . Thermal rests over a couple days will become logged with moisture and will not work properly likely causing you to freeze . Doesn’t happen when you use the cover and nipple to fill with air . 😊

Fantastic experience. If you put a heavy piece of canvas on the floor it might keep the cold from coming out of the ice. That rolling hitch you tied there, is a great knot. Good gear, good results and you got some great gear there. I have heard the ice boom like that. Frightens the crap out of the fish. Thanks for the lovely video.

Love these winter videos of yours brother 😊 I lived in the Yukon for a long time doing the bushcraft, hiking, backpacking and snowshoeing thing. Back then there wasn't many Canadians making YT videos. Now I'm living back in Alberta getting an older cherokee all fixed up to do some overlanding. It's lifted up with an 8" lift and 35's. All top end suspension and steering. Almost ready to rock. Was trying to decide on a rooftop tent with a diesel heater. Been watching alot of vids lately and ran into to yours. I must say these vids are fun to watch and I've pretty much decided on doing it your way this time around. Got the tent picked out and the stove. I love that it's so warm inside it even in those Temps. It's an awesome setup and much cheaper way to go then most RTT setups. And much more roomy and comfortable. Can't wait to get camping out west in the mountains soon. You've inspired me to do it this way. Thanks for the vids man. It's fun watching. Your friendly fellow Canadian. Hope to see much more of these.👍

Get a can of Sterno chaffing fuel - the one with the wick. Light it and put under the exhaust pipe as it comes off the cylinders. Close cowl. Blanket over the hood. An hour later, engine will be at +30F or better and will start with no issues. I do this anytime below -5F because less stressful on engine. A can will last several trips.

Awesome video! The booms of the ice is just ice forming in the cold. Living near a lake in Northern Ontario I hear them quite often when the temperature drops below -20. I called them ice quakes. When it gets below -30 the odd time I'll get frost quakes around the house which is similar but on land and gives the house a little shake with the boom sound. I laughed at the end of the video cause I've been in that situation myself with a Polaris I owned. Now I say Polaris just stands for "Pull Off Lake And Repair In Summer". LOL! I own a Ski-doo 4 stroke now. Keep up the great videos!

Hey Chuck, when you were trying to film the northern lights : see if your camera has a low light exposure setting on it. On dark nights like that, just turn it all the way up.. or play with the setting until you can see the lights. Most, if not all cameras have this setting.

  • @ChuckPorterEverythingOutdoors

I will have to do a little more investigation with my GoPro. I believe there may be a night setting on it, but of course, there are many limitations with this camera for sure.

Great video... good to know those fishing tents are good for an overnighter. We had a mountain tent for one of our Moose hunting trips with a home made campstove... I couldn't believe how warm that thing was. Certainly a great trip making memories. Not sure what put a bigger smile on your face. The catching of the fish or having to tow that other sled. LOL

Hey Susan. I don’t run an exact recipe. But approximately: - 10 lbs of meat - 1 pound of bacon or pork - 1/2 red pepper - 1/2 yellow pepper - 1 small onion - 1 bottle of honey garlic sauce - sausage binder relating to 10 lbs of meat. (Water and binder mix).

Next time skidoo won't start in the cold you can try pulling spark plugs out, then pull over slowly with the rope and gradually pull faster. Will warm the cylinders, pop plugs back in and fire it up. Might save someone walking someday anyways. Cheers.
