Because the delay is so big, looks to me like they're bracket racing, and the van had a slower dial-in time than the beemer. Same for the VW. So the van gets to leave first and in an ideal world (where they both ran their dial-in) they would cross the line together. So it's more about reaction time and winning without "breaking out" faster then your dial-in, which would be why the van let off the gas at the end.

The BMW had a 1.3 second reaction time. No head start, just another person who doesn't know not to wait for the green to come on to start your launch

In the time the BMW reacted the van driver had time to pop in to petrol station, buy a Ginsters pasty, read the paper, have a nap, wake up and then start the race

They run dial in times.The quicker car's time from qualifying delays it's start by how much quicker it is than the slower of the two.So in theory both will cross the finish line at the same time.

It was actually a full XJ220 underneath they stuck a transit body on it so they could test it all in secret. It is still around somewhere privately owned and road legal

No way that's my dad's mate he had a black cortina which he rolled but the turbo in the transit is a bus turbo his from wolverhampton west Midlands my dad usually sees him now and then his still working on the transit and the cortina it has no roof on it as its been really damaged
