Christ! I had the live stream on all day, my son and mother-in-law watched it and were talking about it, I only saw the clean-up after, thanks for posting this I now know what they were on about 😂

This was insane to see today, it happened right in front of me at the stands and you could feel the heat! Amazing how far the car continued to slide. Lucky he walked out. I should think this must be a massive blow for any team.

Things happen quick in a nitro funny car. Luckily, he wasn't hurt. Financially, that will be another issue for that team to rebound from.

He was probably already up to 140 mph or more , I was watching on live stream , glad he was ok , it looked horrible

@@petergardner5002, nope. There were 3 distinct throttle opening events. First one smoked the tires and should have been the end of it on a bye run, second was trying to make something happen, third was when he was on his side. He's definitely kicking himself in the arse knowing he had already won the round by breaking the beams in a bye run.

​@@dannysrigid you can clearly see the low burst panel on the body flip up and hit the injector body. no way to say movement between the body and chassis wasn't a factor after that point if the linkage was somehow caught.

Just got home from Santa Pod, was very dramatic to see in front of us esp with the fireball. Glad he walked away from it and the safety team was there so quickly.

People saying 'it happened right in front of me in the stands, I could feel the heat!" ... However all year the grandstand at the Pod has had the last section closed for repairs and you can't sit there. That same closed section is where the car hit the wall and exploded.. and you got fuck nuts saying it happened right infront of them and they 'could feel the heat' 😆 I was there, in my usual grandstand seat that I've sat in for 20+ years, 2 rows from the top, directly in line with the startline / staging beams. I filmed this crash too, and if you go on Santa Pod's KZread or Instagram and see the video compilation of this crash, mine is the second video.. credited to 'designbybinnie'. I managed to witness it and film it without making some shit up about how I was dodging debris and melting from the heat. Bunch of sad weasels you are..

It happened right in front of me right here on my I-Pad watching KZread. I could feel the heat.😅

looks like the burst panel on the body got up into the throttle blades or linkage and somehow was keeping it from closing or pulling was the linkage opening up the blades

was on the grass bank and saw that today, good thing the driver was ok

We saw this too today. So relieved he's OK.

I was 15 feet away from that crash. Thought we were going to be hit. Staring death in the face. The fireball was intense. Glad he was ok though!!!!

Glad nobody was involved in terms of people in the grandstand being hit by debris or burnt by the fireball! Is that where you were sat?

Bad crash, but due to the safety equipment he was OK.

Was sat at 1000ft where the car came to stop, super scary incident glad to see that Kevin was unharmed

Saw this in person today. Driver bit wobbly after getting out but seemed OK. Amazing considering how dramatic it all looked

This boys and girls is why safety equipment should be embraced ! It's not a nanny state party pooper, it works !

You can see the backfires pops the burst panel out then get stuck in the throttle blades then it just spins outs. Scott Kalitta had that happen in 2005 phx testing

OMG, Only vlogged these guys the other month at the festival of power , never expected that Horrible to watch , thankfully the protective gear did its job , how long would that take to rebuild .

Main thing is Kev's okay and lives to fight another day !

That's me standing in the all black at the very end of the front row at the point of impact, filming away, didn't flinch! Mental to see close up, could feel the flames.

We were on the bank , pretty scary crash, pleased to see him out and walking around just moments later

So glad the driver was okay. The last time I visited Santa Pod - possibly 20 or more years ago - an accident like this happened and they picked up the driver piece by piece. Never forgot it and haven't been able to go back since.

We were in the front row of the grandstand on the far right hand side, as the car spun round it was pointing right at us, the heat from the explosion was intense

have been watching some fantastic racing today this must have happened when I was on my way home , so shocked to see it ,so glad he walked away from this terrible accident just goes to show the safety of these cars and the emergency services were brilliant .

He did, to the left, to get away from the centre line. As he did, he went up in smoke (the tires spun...) and so rotated left.

I think I saw some of the people who attacked the Capitol at this race

2 hour cleaning commences hope he's alright!

His tires probably cooled off too much.

It’s like he peddled it because it was driving through the clutch bad making a small move to the center. Then it did the exact opposite and spun the tire well he has a bunch of left steering input trying to drive it back into the groove. If it’s a real force mechanical clone it almost looks like the NHRA legal Hi/Low clutch map got another unexacting victim. It happened a few time with new driver in the states

Always is prepared for Fuel cars if they're running! This is Round 1 of the 2022 European Championships, so it's prepped properly! (Though Funny Car doesn't run in the European series')

The track was ok, the driver was an idiot for getting back on the throttle, it’s a qualifying run and he had already run the track in 4.8, after the shake he’s never beating that time and he trashed his car trying to do so.

Bloody brilliant idea they are. The way the worlds going. When the green police start crying that there is a big nasty polluting drag strip there - great. It pollutes during the weekend in the summer. But produces clean energy 24/7 365. There’s also a large solar farm hidden behind too.

It was at the high-end of the scale of spectacular! Though, yes, in reality, it wasn't too bad. The fuel tank exploding made it seem a lot worse than it was. Still, it wasn't good... bent chassis etc.

This is what happens when you try to steal someone else's paint scheme ( Robert Hight ) ! Carma can be a bitch , lesson learned ! ✔️😜😎

Glad he's OK. Just goes to show, with more than 10,000 HP, if it's not pointed straight when you hit the gas you've got trouble.

On the hit at 3.04 there's a flash and the burst panel gets into the belt but unclear why he went 180 degrees and hit the wall, breaking a fuel line. the 3 hits on the throttle may have killed the engine and made this worse. Glad he's ok!

Well that wasn't very 'funny' for a Funny Car. In the 1 second he was on power, car was already going over 100 mph. Even a slight impact on wall hurts both car and driver. We see drivers 'walk away' but we don't see them the next day when they are so sore they can barely walk.

No, the cheering was because people started seeing that the driver, Kevin, was out of the wreck! So the applause spread! I knew that scene//piece of footage would confuse some people. I know the driver, and he was practically 100% ok, just a tad bruised from what I understand - and, as would always be expected with something like this, a bit hurt emotionally.
