    There are 4 sequels, but Pamela Springsteen(Yup, the sister of Bruce Springsteen) takes over the role of Angela for parts 2 and 3 while Carrie Chambers play the part in part IV. Parts 2 and 3 are ok, but lack something that the original has, I haven't seen part IV. Felissa Rose does return as Angela in the reunion movie, "Return to Sleepaway Camp(2008)" along with a number of actors from the original(in different roles as their characters were killed in the original). "Return to Sleepaway Camp" is most definitely worth a watch, it has that thing that was missing from the other sequels that was in the original: Felissa Rose and a good mystery to solve.

    I love 3: Teenage Wasteland as well. It's dumb, sleazy fun, which is what I want in a slasher film. After the first two Night of the Demons films, and 2001 Maniacs, I think the two sequels do the best job of making a fun slasher film. The fact that most of the campers are a bit older in the sequels makes things feel a little less squicky as well, albeit less deep.

    What's interesting is that I can't think of any other slasher film that focuses on characters this young. Usually movies focus on people in their junior or senior year of high school, and the very little children are usually not targeted unless it is for exceptional shock value.

    Hey Jen, hope you enjoyed that. It was one of my recommendations. I prefer this to Friday The 13th, as they used real kids in the roles. Angela I believe was 13 and Ricky 17 or 18. The director wanted an actress just to sit there and eat an ice cream and just stare for the screentest, and when he saw Angela do it, he gave her the role straight away. I've loads of info on the film but will just give you a couple of details. In the curling tongs scene she wasn't strangled, but had the tongs inserted into a lower part of her body. In the fake moustache cop scene, the actor originally had a moustache, and shaved it off after his bits were done. But the director wanted him back for another few shots, so they had to use a fake moustache. I haven't seen Sleepaway 2 or 3, but they're suppose to be crap. I'd like to recommend a couple of other films for you. The Burning (1981) (another summer camp jaunt, which is really good. A bit of a cult classic). And The Intruder (1989), which is set in a supermarket store on the night shift. The special effects in this are really well done for a low budget horror film. Bruce.

  • @shaitanlavey

    @shaitanlavey

    3 жыл бұрын

    To add to your post - The Burning was the screen debut of Jason Alexander (George from Seinfeld). He even has hair lol. Intruder was a flip for Scott Spiegel, from cowriting with Sam Raimi. Sam and Ted Raimi appear in the film with Bruce Campbell, making it sort of a "the gang's all here" scenario (whereas Spiegel played Scott in Within the Woods under Raimi's direction). Greg Nicotero of TWD fame was the special effects guy on this film along with Robert Kurtzman and Howard Berger. All of these men have vast filmographies, including other roles such as director and producer. Nicotero learned his craft from working under George Romero and Tom Savini. Also on board was producer Lawrence Bender, who would go on to be the producer for many of Quentin Tarantino's films.

    3:09 Nailed it! And you don't even know how right you are yet... 3:59 That's James Earl Jones' dad, btw. 6:27 Short-shorts and half-shirts. That's the 80s for you. 14:54 They cleaned up this footage a bit too much. That actually is Ricky at the door, but you're not supposed to be able to tell. HD killed the obfuscation. 15:42 Whatever helps you sleep at night... Incidentally, Jack Ketchum's The Girl Next Door is a pretty disturbing watch if you ever feel up to it. Brace yourself, though. It's rough. 16:19 Friday the 13th didn't have the balls to kill children. Sleepaway Camp on the other hand... 17:31 The actor playing this guy was already working on another movie when they called him back for a reshoot. He'd shaved since, and the director would later say he regretted that awful fake mustache. Oh well. Low budget, what can you do... 18:43 What is that? "That's a dick!" - Brad Jones (The Cinema Snob) This movie goes dark, skeezy places, but, no worries, that was a college student who stood in for the final shot with a mask of Felissa Rose's face. There's a lot of subtext in this movie, and a lot of foreshadowing. The effects are also really damn good in this. And that ending will be with you now, forever.

    Great to see a reaction to this. It's always been one of my favourites in the slasher genre as it's a lot sleazier than most a quite nasty as well, especially as most were becoming so predictable around this time. The ending was a real shocker for it's time and still one of my favourite reveals, genuinely never saw it coming. The sequels are a lot more comedic in tone, they are fun but not a patch on this one. Another good slasher from this ear is Hell Night, it's a little slower moving but has some great scares and is more about atmosphere, well worth a look.

    I knew what your reaction to the ending was gonna be and you did NOT disappoint. The second one is fun very much like scream in that it's part love letter to slashers and part parody of them. 3 on the other hand is ok but it's lacking badly. Hope you get to the Texas chainsaw massacre soon. I just did a ranking video of the franchise over on my channel, I'd say check it out but spoilers...

    9:54 I know how you feel, Angela: The whole useless debacle when you don't want to communicate with someone, but the only way they snap to that is if you DO communicate how much you're against communication, and you know they're just going to think badly of you either way, so the only viable option feels like just looking at them, until they get tired of talking. Been there alot. So much so, that I wanted to commission a button/badge saying "Shut Up Go Away Leave Me Alone"

    Another thing too is that's why Angela was confused when she was making out with Paul and had that flashback of discovering her father with another man. Is she gay? She's not sure. And I'd highly recommend 2 and 3. It's her story. They take a different route and go in a more 80's slasher direction, but are very meta with it. Before Scream even did it. They're quite fun.

    Not a fan of the film (I don't know why but I've always been indifferent about the final twist), but it does bring back some good memories. I found a VHS copy of the film at a local hardware store back in the summer of 1995 and bought it just because the tape also had the then out-of-print Day of the Dead on it. I still have the tape! Director Robert Hiltzik wanted to keep young Felissa Rose away from the horrific stuff, so Ricky actor Jonathan Tiersten doubled as Angela for the murder scenes; they even put a wig on him for the shot of Angela entering Judy's cabin.
