I saw them at Download early in the day in 2018. It didn't seem so strange though as it was on one of the smaller stages in a largish tent, so was quite ambient and dark lighting.

@@slevink90 I do like Ghost, but you’re absolutely right; they don’t come close to Sleep Token in any way. Every member of ST is more proficient than anyone in Ghost (based solely on the material from each band respectively) and compositionally, Sleep Token are far superior.

I really like these guys’ schtick - it’s not corny and it fits/amplifies the overall feel of the music and, most importantly, it works on a bright sunny day. Usually sunlight is kryptonite for “dark” bands like these, but this is killer!

Because honestly their “shtick” is more than just costumes and dark imagery. The more you dig into the band, the more you realize just how deeply righteous the entire concept is. I mean really think about it. They’ve completely stripped away their humanity in service to their higher power, and the music itself combined with the overall aesthetic of the band truly gives you that experience. These guys could play at the ass crack of dawn and it wouldn’t matter. The music and concept is just so damn good.

Vessel and the rest are insanely talented and have got down the skill of consistency down to a science, its so mesmerizing to see them live

Can't wait for them to have a live performance featuring The Parallax Orchestra like BMTH, Architects, Alter Bridge...It gives me goosebumps already

I felt the same when I discovered king diamond last year after having heard about them in the 80s. One of my best friends told me when I was still just a kid to NEVER LISTEN because I'd be possessed. That scared me pretty good back then. Now 44 and truly pissed I haven't had it in my life till now. Hail the king. And yes sleep token literally has possessed me in that same scary sort of way

I would do anything to hear them alive. I just knew them by their song The Summoning and sweet lord... This is so perfect...

10/10 would recommend them live, it was an experience that I will never forget. The videos I see of them live do them no justice because they really are incredible.

I'm probably too old to get all over excited about these guys, but I'm definitely sold on their creativity, utilising a combination of genres, changing signatures with precise execution and the ethereal soundscape that envelops their compositions. I can't help but feel I've heard it all before in stages, though fair props to them. It's bold, probably a little niche, but certainly some worthy ear candy for a change.

I think you make a very good point. For me though, I’d go one step further: The mystic surrounding the identities of the musicians really created a very special feeling and I think that was so cool and attracts me to them, but I kind of wish some of their music wasn’t so ‘Nu-metal-ish’ (I can’t find another word to describe it), I can imagine though that their live experience is so fucking awesome. Although I know that in the meantime, the identities have more or less been revealed 🤷‍♂️

I’ll give a listen to their albums sure. Sleep Token is a pretty cool name. The whole mask and costume thing just reeks of the nu-metal type stuff that I’ve never been able to get into, but I’m always open to exceptions.

Basically (according to) the lead singer he is a mouthpiece / avatar for an ancient Deity called "sleep" hence him going by the moniker "vessel" and he is spreading the messages of Sleep through their music, this is also why they're all anonymous because they want the focus to remain on the message / songs for Sleep and not on them as individuals, so while it does look weird I think the idea is he's worshipping Sleep and channelling his energy through him hence the jerky and ethereal movements
