Věra, what a legend you are. Your 'silent' protest, for me it was loud and clear, meant and still means the world to me. An action which had an impact on my life for ever. You will be missed for ever heroine Věra Čáslavská.

To bad she died this past year at 74 from pancreatic cancer. I read that her marriage was tumultuous to the runner guy she married during these Olympics. Had a son and daughter. The son had an altercation with her husband (his father) when he was 19 and hit in the head.It caused him to go into a coma for which he later died in 1993. The son didn't end up going to jail due to lack of sufficient evidence. Apparently she never was the same after that, though she got into coaching later on. Sad how sometimes life can turn out when you think you have it all.

Amazing cinematography, just amazing! Compositions, way of storytelling, movement, the attitude of this video shot in 1968 for the sport event is just terrific!!! Could you please tell me the aspect ratio and film format (16mm, 35mm) of the original footage? Thank you.

Ahh this is so awesome! Love the video quality, the audio dubbing is kind of goofy but the awesome music totally makes up for it. The series of clips starting at 8:24 would get the producers of this in a whole lot of trouble had it been made today :3

True artistic gymnastics here. It had to be so hard on the body to tumble on what appeared to be little more than a thin Matt with carpeting. They performed with graceful athleticism with a smile on their face. R-I-P Ms Vera Caslavska. One the greats.

@@OneWhoLivesThere That isn't a "soviet athlete", that's a Czechoslovakian one. That difference is pretty important, especially at those olympic games, since that was the year that Soviets invaded Czechoslovakia. Čáslavská protested when she won the gold medal by turning her head to the side when soviet anthem was played. And she got banned for it for several years by the communistic government.

@@mrkv4k Thanks for the explanation. I am referring to the woman at 8:55 with an emblem on her chest that looks to read "OSSR". You are saying that OSSR refers to Czechoslovakia? I am familiar with USSR and likely mistook OSSR for USSR when I made my comment.
