Hot damn! It's good to see someone stripping and sealing the correct way. Stripper a 175 and most important high pressure extraction. When applying sealer. Instead of cotton rags use microfiber. They don't shred or leave lint. Nice work guys.

Thanks for making this video :-) Just purchased a home w/a large slate floor. Its frustrating because it doesn't look clean after I've cleaned it. You've given me some hope =)

I bought my house 10 years ago and thought I was so excited about my slate floors. Absolutely regret 100% Because they never ever look clean and the slate black is always on a feet and socks wish I had just done traditional wood

Hi, thanks for the comments everyone. I am sorry this is not a how to video, this is a video of how professionals can do the work and the results we at Rothwell’s Cleaning Services Ltd can get. I can give some advice on products etc but my main advice is call a professional that has years of experience and training. Slate and all stone floors are not cheap to instal so why skimp on their upkeep and risk reeking your floors. Slate can be cleaned with a high alkaline cleaner, we get ours from tiling logistics, it’s called extreme clean. Some black slates are dyed so it is possible that cleaning will remove this, and you will have a grey slate after. If unsure test in a hidden area first. Slate floors look best when sealed with a colour enhancing sealer. It should be a solvent based sealer as that has smaller molecules’ so will penetrate the dense stone better, we get most of ours from Conservation Chemical Consultants. Sealers come in a wide range and its nearly always true that more you pay the better the product, don’t buy the cheap ones. We used tens of thousands of pounds of equipment when cleaning this floor so there is no point on my advising about that as you couldn’t get it but you will at least need an industrial wet vac and slow speed rotary and you might be able to hire these from a local tool shop or flooring specialist if your going to try this yourself.

Wow, great Job! Im gonna try This in my Bathroom floor. Does it work for any kind of Tiles? Mine are white & gray & the Thinset is everywhere. Can you give minor instructions? Im guessing I have to sand it down, vacuum it up, clean it, then paint it, then add gloss or, Shine or shalak!

What would you use to clean unsealed slate flooring, for example mop and solution? Also what is the best broom or vacuum to use. Thanks for the video 😊

Not a lot of information and none of the commenter questions asked. I'm guessing this was more of an old school 'advertisement' of the work they do/did rather than a how to.

we used a mild alkaline cleaner on that particular floor, if the grout is giving you more problems you can use an acid product to clean those on slate floors.

Not bad but the grout still looks dirty . Try staining it .

The slight color difference you can see in the grout is dampness, the last shot we took was as I was sealing the floor. Staining grout is not the best option.

AVOID painting grout, it will peel off and look rubbish over the next few years. We have been called out to clean that off many a time and it can be time consuming to remove.

Hello guys do you know some way to take off scratch from black tile? I saw some black wax but not sure it can work good...

  • @RothwellsCleaning

it would depend on the scratch and the type of tile. If it was slate then the colour in the scratched area would still be the same so i would guess this is a man-made tile probably ceramic. The wax may well work and won't damage the tiles so I would proceed with that.
