Amazing. Used this on a slate flagstone porch entrance. My wife has been trying for ages with all sorts of cleaning products. I found this and returned it back to a glorious finish in a few minutes. A bit smelly for a while and not sure how lasting the finish will be, but as it is so quick to do, this is a great solution. Thanks.

So many good, and yes, safe uses for WD-40! I’d wear a mask to not inhale the fumes, but that’s all. Do you have any advice for someone with a coffee table with several slate tiles, and some seem to be peeling on the surface ?Not sure how it was treated while my mom and dad had it. I WILL try the WD-40 in the meantime. Thanks!

I used 4 coats of bee's wax 19yrs ago, still looks great, lovely gloss. Benefit is when warm it moves and freshens up the effect. I see no reason to use anything so heavy and could breakdown the bounding layers. Wax kind of seals the surface with pentrating beyond 1mm.

I’ve been using WD40 for quite a few years on the slate tiles around our wood-burning stoves, and never had any problems. The smell disappears very quickly, I like the fact that it’s short-term and I can wash it off and re-apply, and none of our pets have ever poisoned themselves walking across it, mainly because the slate absorbs the oil and I buff it up. I also use it on my slate table mats, and guess what; we haven’t suffered any after-effects. 🙄

If it's slate I'm not really sure. There are several mortar fillers on the market these days which set quite fast, but slate is very porous so I'm not sure how it would bond. Do some research on masonry/stone fillers. Let me know how you get on. Sorry I couldn't help.

All you sillies that are going on about how poisonous and flammable WD40 is and therefore should not be used. It would only be dangerous if he was doing it with the fire lit. You can wear gloves if you are worried about getting it on your skin and don't do while there is a raging fire in the burner. You can even do it while the room is well ventilated if you are cncerned. I' suspect that if you were to try to ignite the surface of the slate after it had dried from the treatment, you would not be able to do so. What do you lot do if you are using non water based varnish for decorating purposes - all faint with horror at how dangerous it is??????
