Slash - Been There Lately (from "Made In Stoke")
Filmed at the Victoria Hall in Stoke On Trent on July 24th, this concert marked Slash's return to the town in which he grew up. The show came towards the end of his 2010/11 world tour in support of his debut solo album "Slash". Lead vocals on the tour were handled by Myles Kennedy of Alter Bridge and the setlist featured tracks from Slash's solo album, from his albums with both Slash's Snakepit and Velvet Revolver and classic songs that he co-wrote for Guns'n'Roses.
TRACKLISTING
1) Been There Lately 2) Night Train 3) Ghost 4) Mean Bone 5) Back From Cali 6) Rocket Queen 7) Civil War 8) Nothing To Say 9) Starlight 10) Promise 11) Doctor Alibi 12) Speed Parade 13) Watch This 14) Beggars & Hangers On 15) Patience 16) Godfather Solo 17) Sweet Child O' Mine 18) Slither 19) By The Sword 20) Mr Brownstone 21) Paradise City
The line-up for this unique homecoming show featured Slash (guitar); Myles Kennedy (vocals); Todd Kerns (bass, vocals); Brent Fitz (drums) and Bobby Schneck (guitar, vocals).
Have seen them raise an eye, I'm comin' home
Seedy and crawlin', seven years or more
Now you know where I'm goin'
A beautiful shade of blue and pale
A colour you bought at a junkie's yard sale
Stop your cryin', stop your cryin'
Well I'm lazy now-the summer crazy farm is all I own with...
My motor, my thrills, I needed my space
My prison, my drugs, let's go to my place
Ain't been there lately
Ain't been there lately
Ain't been there lately-there's no room
Well I sacrificed the all the people
That were killin' me and since gone away
Three of them murdered, two livin'
Now even God's gone, not much left to say
If there's a day you wanna come by
Everybody knows I'll just be sittin' here
Drop on by now, let's get high now
The reverend reminded me your redemption can be paid with...
My motor, my thrills, I needed my space
My prison, my drugs, let's go to my place
Ain't been there lately
Ain't been there lately
Ain't been there lately-there's no room
Ain't been there lately
Ain't been there lately
Ain't been there lately
Ain't been there lately, lately

Awesome, and I actually remember this song from way back when Slash did his two "Slash's Snakepit" albums. Awesome records, always wondered why he never pulled more of those awesome songs into his new live sets as a solo artist. Would be awesome to get "Ain't Life Grand" at some point, preferably with a big horn section on top, now that'd be fucking awesome, but this is amazing too. Slash your great!!

@rockero1590 Amazing that you would classify a 42 yr old man with thinning hair and large ears as a pretty boy from American Idol or Glee. Myles is a classic rock style tenor and quite a good one at that otherwise Jimmy Page, JPJ or Jason Bonham would not have asked him to audition not once but twice for a project they wanted to do. Slash picked the right guy for the job (covering vocal styles of 10 plus singers). Not many can do what Myles has.

@RockinRollTrain I dunno if he's giving his all, maybe at his age now he is... I saw Guns N Roses in Newcastle a few years back and everyone went mental, I saw VR in Manchester and as soon as Slash hit the stage everyone went mental for the next hour and I saw Adler in York in a small venue and again everyone went mental... Like dancing and singing with strangers and jumping on their backs mental. I've gotta say though they do sound great here.. Myles needs to lay off talking to the crowd though

Hmm, I think Myles is doing a great job on these songs. To be honest, I didn't know this song before I heard Myles singing it, so I'm a bit less biased. I like Myles version, but for people that've known Rod's version I understand the tone is their voices is too different.

  • @SEIFER69

    @SEIFER69

No. Myles is missing ALL of the necessary grit. Rods voice is like an instrument on this song. You can't just substitute a triangle for a whole drum kit. Which is what is happening here. It's a cheap imitation & to call it otherwise is an insult to the song. Rods song. If Rod sang Myles' songs. They'd be improved. He's just better. And leaving him out of Slash's history is an insult. To the music. Which Rod improves with his presence. Just facts.

Here's my theory on the camera thing and lack of energy in the audience. It's a circle of effect, if the audience don't go crazy then the band doesn't go crazy and then the audience doesn't go crazy and get out their cameras etc. I love this song, I love Slash but him and the band need to go F'kin crazy and not just skip around the stage.

This song sounds.....empty without Rod Jackson on vocals. I like Myles voice in other songs, with Alter Bridge too but this is not a good fit once you hear the original.
