Hahaa...Jack, thank you ! It's an excellent video for all of our customers.Hope you can solve those obstacles during the transformation of English and metric systems. BTW, Aaron is a cute and brave photographer. Nice!

Hello Jack. Congratulations mate she's up and running. I'm so very happy for you and by the smile on your face so are you. Thanks again for the shout out. I appreciate you naming the little Kangaroo camera man after me too ;-). Others would have grabbed a John Candy doll and stuck a camera in his hand ha ha ha ha. Can't wait to see more content from you and your SkyfireCNC adventures. Keep up the good work. Cheers, Aaron.

John Candy, now that's funny. I caught my little Aaron going round and round on the spindle today and had to give him a time out because he did not have his safety glasses on. Hahaha

Hi Jack, Great video. Great camera man. I'm playing the waiting game for mine at present. Just so you know, I'm with Aaron with the 5 syllables for Aluminium.

Nice video! Aaron's not gonna be too happy you minimized him to a stuffed Kangaroo :). I saw the tap holder extend about 1/32" before the tap even started reversing, but it didn't extend any further while retracting. Probably an issue with the tapping macro. Regarding the tool setter, normally you have tool 0 or a known length tool as the standard, touch off and it will be 0.000", then all the other tools are measured relative to this length. I didn't see the Skyfire manual online anywhere but if you want to email it to me, I can help sort it out.

Aaron great great camera work! hahaha :) Did you check x y and z to see if when you move 1" it moves exactly 1" ? Try setting it back to mm and tap a metric hole just for giggles. Spindle rotation should should be synced to the Z axis to match the thread pitch per inch, 1/4 20 threads would be 20 revs/per inch of thread. Could be just a setting or a bad spindle encoder. Maybe it is just the camera but Z axis sounded a bit squeally, is the machine oil full and primed? Hope you get to the bottom of it. Great video BTW!

Hi, Machine oil full and primed. It is a bit squeally (not even a word by the way, Hahaha) same as another Skyfire guy I know. When Jan Bos sent me a video tapping with my machine with metric holes the same thing happened to them, part pulled up. So tomorrows another day. Only one day in cutting anything. I'll do more checking tomorrow after I get my morning orders out.

Correct me if I am wrong. Feed * thread pitch = Spindle Speed. So a 1/4-20 tap would be F10. @ S200 or 10-32 tap would be F10. @ S320. Also refrencing the auto tool touch off is usually, example, on top of the stock or top of skimmed surface. You calculate the difference of the actual tool length to the top of the part to get your G54 etc. Z height. Hope this helps.

I did check that, and the speed and feed are S400 and F20 so that should be perfect. Defeng sent me the fix but I'm a bit hesitant to go for it yet as I don't want to brick the controller. I'm going to work out the touch off in the next couple days as I discovered it's just measure the first set tool that you'll always use for getting the part zeroes then the rest of the tools will touch off the tool setter to get the correct offsets.

Roadstercycle Good to hear there is a fix. I, myself never use auto tool touch offs. Thats how I learned anyway. None of the mills here at my work have auto tool touchoffs. Nice to have though. I use a APM brand manual tool touch off block and its repeatable at .0002" Saves my ass for all the setups I do. My manager frowns on using it but hey, I am the one setting up, not you. :) Good luck on the fix man. You should do a video on how you setup from start to finish as I am and I'm sure everyone would love to see how that adtech controller works.

Hi there, did you ever work out the automatic tool setter? I've go the same machine and i'm finding I have the same problem that i cant quite find what the reference is or where it should input the tool offsets. I tried a few things but it doesn't quite work out for me. Cheers, Dan.

Could your rigid tap issue (which seems to be a initial up movement to early in the retract) be due to faulty backlash compensation in the parameters for the Z axis ?

Serge Gostoli My first guess as well, that an incorrect value was set (too high).

A rigid tap cycle should be automatic retract regardless of the feedrate. Like the other commenter....probably a setting somewhere.

British?...They started the imperial system :) the europeans..mainly Germans bought in the metric system. The rest of the world except the USA uses the metric system. Even the british use metric now...they even threw imperial out :)

Thanks for that. I thought the British where Wentworth (hope I spelled it right). I was thinking about it too and thought is it the British Imperial system then I thought no way, but it seems so.

Whitworth is what you were thinking of. It was a crap system too...working in fractions is such a difficult way to do things but working on a base 10 system is much easier. I am lucky as I was bought up in the imperial system then when I was in my late teens Australia converted to metric so I can work in either easily but it is difficult for some. It wont be too long before the USA will convert..I mean even NASA and SpaceX now use the metric system

Hi Phil, yes it is figured out. Jason figured it out a couple days ago. It was in the VFD settings. I am testing now and it seems to work fine. No more pull up. He will be posting results and fix on the Facebook Skyfire group pages very soon.

Right now I'm trying to figure out the coolant pump not turning on. Push button light is on, no relay clicking or motor running. No AC output from the control board flood pins. I see it's on #4 output pin but I can not see where it is enabled or not in controller.

Z Axis does not sound good. Possibly motor resonance or lack of lubrication on the ball screw?

  • @Roadstercycle

    @Roadstercycle

That's a good question. Seems all the axis scream a little when moving. Servos? I really don't know. All the axis are oiling fine, that's the only thing I can think of. Maybe out of tune from Chinese power to USA power. I'll email Jan and see if he has an answer. Unless some other Skyfire owner chimes in and says it's normal or something. Works fine though.

Roadstercycle fix a dial indicator somewhere solid so it cannot move. Then gently touch off to the table or the column, whichever axis you want to test. Then move off the dial and rapid the machine back and forth several times. Then go back to the position where you touched off and see if you get the same reading on the dial indicator.
