I don't know about Skrill but I use a lot of distortion plugins that all do a tiny bit of distortion each

Harmonic series as a modulator instead of the static sine wave can also be really cool for this bass

I always struggled trying to mimic the lows in skill's sound. Like you, my sounds always come out a bit too resonant.

all of these seemed really accurate, but I kinda wonder if he used a sample for the tears bass. Feels to organic to be a synth patch to me.

Try adjusting the attack or multi and crompressor if there is one on there
If you want these basses to sound more authentic use these same concepts in fm8 pretty sure that’s what he used for most of the dark fm basses

I think he used FM8 more in the old days for some of his growls. You can make this sound with any soft synth that has fm tbh no need to have all the extra osc in FM8 imo

@@XLNTSOUND also having issues. opening the preset gives the error "unable to load preset: it is too small to be a valid exp file". the unzipped .fxp file is 0 bytes

Make sure your bass and sub are separate and cut out enough room from the bass for the sub to fill. You can crush the bass with OTT but easy on the sub which could use some saturation and a little dynamic processing which might work better on a parallel channel. Make sure the sub is mono. Then send them both to a bus with a little glue compression(You might even set up a parallel channel for this as well) Experiment though because every situation is different. Some will say slap 3 OTTs on it and call it a day, which might work in some cases, just dont do that to your sub.

Jauz studied in berkeley college I think, and Zomboy in a place in London I think, but the rest of the top DJs in the world have no idea

You think? I’m not sure tbh but why would you use FM8 to fm 2 sines waves. It’s much more clunky. If anything I would bet Massive. I think you can tell a difference when he is using FM8
