I've never thought that Jeremy would ever present Czech car, let alone praise it. Even though I have little reason to, it makes me little proud in patriotic sort of way.

@Ikreisrond

+Stryke Seriously?! The ideas are not the problem. The contracts and payments are. The Top Gear team has slowly started with some funny but risky stuff, that normally wouldn't be allowed in car programs. Over the years the BBC and various suppliers (of services, technical equipment, car brands, etc.) have gotten so much confidence in their *ability* to organise these perks in the name of the BBC , that they were able to go further and further. Of course responsabilities would have needed to be barred down in the contracts and payments would have had to be according to that. Really, anybody can come up with these kind of ideas. (Unless you're a boring office, sales or commercial clerk slave of course.) But all it takes is trust, contracts and the ability to organise this stuff to be able to do it. I reckon there's a very experienced and able team behind these 3 normal guys. They just can't do it all themselves. They do the script, others organise (produce), others sell the script to the various organisations. (Helicopter flights, firebrigade, tattoo shop, Skoda, BBC, etc.) And so on...
@a70mic

+Ikreisrond I'm not trying to argue with you.. I also feel like this review is too good to be true.. But do you really think the BBC needs extra money to do something like this?
@Ikreisrond
8 жыл бұрын
+a70mic Yes. A lot of companies and organisations in the world are very conservative. Among them seems to be the BBC. They will try out new concepts, like more of a fun car show instead of a car review show. When it turned out to be successful, they decided to go a bit further. Each time along the way more money got available, because the guys proved that there was a market for this. This would not have been possible in the early days of this TG team. Only because they have proved to the BBC that this was feasible and would make them money, is why they were able to do this at this stage.

This is one of those cars you have to drive to know what everyone is on about. I'll agree it doesn't look great from the back and overall might look a little outdated, but after a quick test drive, you'll fall for it if you're in the market for a small, but spacious car that is also fairly economical. After testing some other cars which all had their bad points, the Yeti instantly felt like the right choice for me. Great car.
Why are you in my recommendations? After 8 freaking years!
I remember this skit and spotting the helicopter pilot, recognising him from my then local. Brilliant chap who had time for all. His son Q was a cracking fellow too.

Top gear, always doing the most important and reliable reviews
Had an old ratty one from early production, high mileage when I got it but it took me off road all over, including a playfully mobile river (back end started to float with the current, water up above the wheels - don't ask how I didn't hydro lock it as I don't know). I parted with the old one many months ago and missed it greatly as many owners have missed theirs, so I'm picking up a newer model today to replace the Octavia Scout I'd bought to replace the Yeti. The out of spec but legal offroad tyres I'd put on my old Yeti on cheap 16" steel wheels will be going on the newer one, once I've taken them off the Scout. Same size Darkside Developments put on their Yeti but slightly less square tread so no arch scrub even on the Scout which is interesting, as they pretty much fill its arches. Incredible road car on a budget the Yeti, surprisingly good off road when feeling fruity and excellent on snow/ice on good tyres with the Haldex system (110 quid a corner Michelin all terrain tyres, which hurt as a Yorkshireman living in Scotland at the time but they stick like the proverbial to everything and after 30k miles over all terrain, they've only lost 2mm tread with another 8 to go - but put 20 quid ditch finders on any car and you may as well have bought a 50 quid skateboard). I guess the Yeti was too good to continue production after 2017 as folk didn't want to part with them stuck in the brand new car for 3 years nonsense before switching up (my first was already abused and needed more spending than it was worth whereas the new one is in showroom condition) - I've read countless comments from folk wishing they'd kept their Yeti rather than part exchanging for a Karoq or similar and new comments keep on coming the same even today 6 years after production ceased. My old one was a 140 DSG, the new one is 170 manual which is similar to the Scout with its older PD engine mapped to 170 without illegal exhaust mods. The 170 Yeti will map similarly to 220 after Xmas if I feel like it but I'm just happy to be getting back in a Yeti again. Even as a daily road car they're more comfortable than anything I've known before and at half the price of the big names while actually built better with indicators that you can use to inform other drivers of your intentions, too (fancy that eh?) - they're built like a tank which is probably why production ceased due to lesser profit. Even my ratty 140 often out-ran the pretty boys in their shiny ego-mobiles on finance (as the ratty Scout has done too with its tired crunchy old PD engine) so the 170 is going to be pleasing given it sticks like hell with the Haldex and my favourite tyres. Genuinely superb cars regardless of flippant humour above, built above their price range and that's why if you can a properly decent one you should go for it - make sure there's good timing belt history and that the Haldex has been serviced properly as per Haldex/Borg Warner manufacturer spec, not VW/Skoda spec which had led to many premature pump failures... and that's what I've made sure with my new one. :D
Happy to find this-Absolutely crazy!
That was brutal!!! Yeti has been one of the car on my list of small SUV I'd like to have. It doesnt look bad, it has good power and it is very practical.

@lijkenkist1

kaplego I don't think so because he says in the video that the inside temperature is somewhere between 10 and 20, if that were Fahrenheit he would be freezing. And anyway, the tip of a flame from a torch is around 600 degrees C, enough to melt aluminium. The tires would've burst at around 70 degrees and at 900, all the aluminium would have dripped off the car immediately. Don't get me wrong, I love Top Gear, but I really don't approve of the way they fake almost everything they do.
@kaplego

well it's probably because the environment was at 900 degrees and the car didn't have time to heat up to a temperature that would be destructive for it, it only drove through for a bit.

kaplego An efficiënt flame produces heat of around 600 degrees c, as I said. Normal fire is around 250 - 300 degrees. You are right about the time it would need to heat the car up, but scientifically it just isn't possible that it is anywhere near 900 degrees in there

@@appelpower1 We have been part of a soviet block for 40 years only, and that period was finished already 30 years ago now I think it's time for western countries to stop being ignorant to that. In the past 1000 years we were part of Holy Roman Empire and actually ruled it for nearly a hundred years. Then we were part of Austria-Hungarian empire (btw we were the richest country out of those) so you would have to consider Austira as an eastern european country too (and they are actually more to the east than the Czech Rep.). Pretty much all noble families were related to French, German, Austrian and English nobles. Our culture is Western and is way closer to German culture than for example to Polish culture. By no means we are eastern Europe. Those 40 years are pretty insignificant in the whole scale. A good measure of Eastern Europe is it's eastern christian religion (Czech has been traditionally protestant and catholic). P.S. Skoda is one of the oldest automobile manufacturer in the world. It was established way before Europe was split to the West and East.
Evidently Top Gear has exhausted it's supply of flying pianos.
