I saw the famous designer :) he doesn't even think the design is controversial. But at least they had a strong reason for that, to give Octavia a strong unique character, and I think they achieved it.

Again another nicely done job! Congratulations. It was very clever idea to bring in the designer of car as well. I didnt know about desing details before. About the car it self, I really liked the new look. But not much of new infotaintment system. It may be expensive but doesnt look like, especially with the fingerprints on it. Keep up the good work.

Just done about 400 miles in 2 days in the 1.5TSI DSG hatchback version of this car, same colour, hire car in Scotland. Very impressed, so much so that it's now on the shortlist for my next car. A lot of tyre roar off some road surfaces and not too much steering feel but otherwise, very little to fault. And I got almost 50mpg!

Thanks to autogefuhl i bought a new car. In my list were cars such as Astra, Focus, Octavia and Leon. Astra was first out....i missed paddles for shifting and also some other minor problems to me. Really hard decision for me came then. Octavia vs Leon with 1.8 TSI and DSG....both had the same price for me, although price list of Škoda is put in higher levels. Škoda has more room, more practical small hideouts in interior and electric opening for trunk. Thats it.....no charisma, no sexepeal and if u want good level of equipment u have to pay extra. So i picked Seat Leon ST 1.8 DSG in beautifull Desire Red. Again thanks to autogefuehl i could chose that sporty beautifull red color....you showed it sooner, then it can be seen in Czech republic. Only con i found in Leon (and i really hoped AJ is not right there) is no responce in wheel....Really shame in sporty tuned estate. 1.8 is flawless, silent and very lively over 4000 RPM, DSG great as ever, but i dont know what is happening under my wheels even in sport mode (i have adaptive chassis). Keep going Thomas and your team.

Good Review Aditya. I don't mind the style of the facelift too much. At 6:09 you said the interior was all one colour; I agree, I'd prefer a lighter interior and contrasting coloured dash - we got a glimpse of a different interior with the white car during the 'Trailer Assist' demo. However the panoramic roof is great. I also liked, and agreed with your description of the DCC - I would definitely specify DCC on an MQB platform car. Many thanks AJ & team.

Clearly the fascia doesn't gel as well as previous Octavia. The design team didn't see through that even with the explanation. The rest of the bodywork is a minor improvement over the last car, same with the cabin which isn't a bad thing. Quite commendable on AJ to get the design team project leader for a brief statement about the updated front.

The front head lights look like the car was crashed and now they are just hanging. If you take away the inner two (just cover them with your fingers) the car actually looks cool! - redesigned climate control or just new supplier from the 80's ??? Are the capacitive buttons work well while driving ? - otherwise it is a good upgrade !

The fact that this guy was hired by BMW made me think hard what's good about this look. And I can tell I really like it now. This design seems to be wider and futuristic, considering it's a family car. The old one looks veeery outdated.

I like the new design. Ordered the station wagon three weeks ago. It will be my third Octavia. It's always a decent car and the price value is very good, especially if you purchase a reimport for example from Denmark, makes it in my case (Style Version with some extras 😉) 8 grand (!) cheaper then the german list price 🤑 ...

5:30 those door upper panels platics use to be so soft on the 2005 version :( Shame on Skoda for going cheap (I know it might have help a bit with CO2) Interesting to see it still have the manual handbrake, is Skoda expecting driver to do turns in a sporty way? Else electronic parking brake would have saved a bit of room in the center console.

36:00 - mentions some play in the steering wheel around centre position. I have this car and that's not my experience at all. I notice AJ says this whilst driving on a fast motorway / highway / dual-lane road. If he has the lane assist system activated then that's exactly what's going to happen - as he turns the steering wheel, the system is fighting against him trying to keep the car centred. Turning Lane Assist off or indicating before turning the wheel should fix the problem.

3000km is by far not enough for running in. My experience is that 10000 - 15000km are needed to achieve the consumption nearest to the factory numbers. Plus 4x4. Yes, it is Haldex and it is not fully engaged all the time. But still, it affects the consumption. You can always expect +1 liter (and even more in the winter, at least here in the north).

Compared even to a basic trendline golf variant with a 1.4 tsi you get sound insulation under the hood as standard, the area around the spare wheel is all covered with insulation material, the plastics on the door trim are of better quality, whole boot materials is of much higher quality than this 90s style of material in the trunk of the octavia and the area around the handbrake definitely has more up market plastics as well. you pay what you get for basically.

Personally, I lately fancy a Jaguar S Type with a V6 petrol engine. Car with character in and out and a non politically correct engine. You can find a well taken care one with less than 6-7K nowadays. RWD, V6 and drives smoothly like a dream ☺ Had touch screen Navi-clima and automatic handbrake since the early '00s.

I agree AJ, design is very questionable also a lot of new features seem optional extras which is very disappointing, in essence you are only getting an ugly front. In Ireland full LED doesn't appear until you get to the L&K range again very disappointing, I think sales will be poor with this facelift model surely that's how you gauge success so I think the designer you interviewed will be proved wrong claiming this design is a success. How long is this model going to be in production? I have a 2015 Octavia won't be buying a 2017 one unless I can get the current model.

Thanks for the review, the best so far 2nd is a russian drive test from h*ll with scout-2015 ( link below) of the car and very good explanation on some of the features. I ordered the scout and I dont mind the split headlamps i think the earlier front and lamps were dull and this new design fresh and bold. Its more of a Samsung car than an Apple car so to speak. so it's the same but with uglier headlights. it's good that they call it "facelift" so it's an intermediate model. But if they plan on following this line, they will come to the conclusion that mercedes-benz was kind of the last of the manufacturers to try separated headlamps on the e-class a couple of years ago. annnd they ditched them.

Very bad for road safety having to press menu then touch screen on icon for switching between radio and media and phone etc. Old real buttons much better, easier to use and safer.

I didn't get what's the problem with the leather seats

  • @autogefuehl

    @autogefuehl

    7 жыл бұрын

Thank you for taking interest in this very important topic! First to the practical reasons: 1. animal skin seats get hot in summer and you stick to the seat 2. they are cold in winter 3. on cloth or microfibre, you basically don’t need seat heating nor cooling 4. animal skin seats wear out very fast and look like granny’s old sofa 5. if you want leather look, the leatherette (faux leather) surfaces are meanwhile highly evolved and it is possible that it feels even softer and better than anything else (See our Tesla Model X review) So Tesla shows that the discussion wether you need animal skin is basically done. Still, now to the environmental reasons: 1. There are many productions where the cow is killed for the skin first, sometimes even alive, the skin is the most profitable single part of the body. 2. The way the cows are held are catastrophic (see videos below) 3. Even if a cow gets killed for meat first, you give additional money to an industry that relies on murder, pollutes the environment and harms people with chemicals. 4. Does it really matter for which cause a mammal, that is 99 % genetically identical with us, gets killed? Would you say a cow only got slaughtered for the meat in the leg and thus it got slaughtered for the meat in the neck anyway? That doesn’t make sense. 5. So to the often said argument, animal skin would just be a byproduct, please google/youtube "leather is not a byproduct" you will find plenty of information. A good overview on all those issues can also be found here: adaptt.org/ 6. Let's say you are standing at the meat counter. And you ask for the leg of the cow. The butcher tells you: "You can eat that without worrying, the cow was slaughtered for the neck first". The next customer demands the neck. The butcher tells him: "It's not your fault, the cow was slaughtered for the belly". An the next customer demands the hide, what answer does he get? You see, that argument of "byproduct" comes from the meat and leather industry to cover that you contribute to killing no matter which part of the body you buy. Special videos: 1. A special video from Autogefühl considering the use of leather can be found here: kzread.info/dash/bejne/apptk62gkrnIerQ.html 2. And another one right here: kzread.info/dash/bejne/poGCycWFdZOydLg.html 3. Furthermore, you’ll find footage of leather production here, where people are walking in chemicals etc. and animals have to watch their friends being slaughtered in front of their eyes: kzread.info/dash/bejne/fJ2ku9iudNavZtY.html timecode starting 27:46 4. This is another video which very well summarizes the torture of leather production, shots taken at big farms which directly produce for the automotive industry: kzread.info/dash/bejne/gZt81ZRsacWnnqg.html Help to raise awareness on this subject. Thanks!

Front grill is so bmw-like. If they painted that wide middle part in the colour of exterior, it would be the same as bmw. Love the design, hope car would be good. And that it wont be more expensive, especially vRS version. Of course, you didnt review normal version...AGAIN!!! Instead some 1.8 4x4 petrol that noone will buy except maybe 500 germans...
