Man, how many times do I have to shout at the screen. The satellite for the audio controls on the Renaults is genious. You don't need to see it, you know it's there and it helps a lot.

For my money I want a car that is economical & reliable & they can shove all the video game screens as I will take a simple button over a plethora of interactive steps that remind me just how distracted other drivers are instead of actually driving. My choice would be the Kamiq for it's sensible design & functionality.

The gap berween the starting prices and the the ones of the tested cars is astonishing, almost double !!

In my opinion the design of the Skoda Kamiq is more sober therefore timeless. Is going to looks decent even in 5 years time. The design of the capture is already looking obsolete compared to their new renault models. The Capture, I drive one, is cheap. Fully hard plastic on all of the doors, and no space at the back for passengers taller than 1,75cm. If I could choice, I would pick the kamiq. No brainer. Great video man

Excellent camera work! I still believe that the best of the two is the Captur 1.5d in middle trim.

Considering I have seen almost all Skoda Kamiq reviews on KZread, your conclusion surprised me in a big way. The Skoda wins from all cars in this category, even from VW and Japanese and Korean brands.

the botom line is the service, reliability and tradability. where i live Renault are not so reliable and most of them have big electronics and automatic gear broblems (not the diesel).

Love see one between Peugeot 2008 and Nissan juke

I drove the new Skoda Kamiq for almost a week, didn't had a chance to drive the new Captur yet. Purely based on my opinion, I think a mid-spec'd Kamiq is a better bet. The ride was very good, sound insolation also, and the 1.0 TSI with 115 HP was decent. However, it might not pursuade younger audience with the "classical" approach to the interior (compare that to the new Pug 2008 or Captur and you'll know what I mean by this). All in all, If I was in the market for a B-Segment crossover, I would consider the Kamiq for the best mix of value, equipment and substance.

I had the new captur, the kamiq and the 2008 on my shortlist, but had to drop the 2008 off because of the dated infotainment screen and software......... What a shame............... I really like it outside design but as i will spend a lot of time inside, this system is one of my top priorities. Also the 2008's boot is the least practical.

@@Tonytruand09 You are probably talking about the old 2008, right? Check out the new 2020 model. It's really a step or two above the model it replaces.

Loved the both but found the fixed height Captur's passenger seat harder to get into with out hitting your head. We test drove both cars found the 1.5 ltr 4cy engine in the Kamiq went just as well as the Captur and the Skoda feels better built, has more internal room and we found it to be more comfortable. On looks the Captur. On the drive experience, the Kamiq. Both very good but the one we found would be easier to live with was the Kamiq.

Oh, one more: Comparing these two with the new Peugeot 2008 would be interesiting, dont' you think?

I am leasing a Kamiq here in the UK though I won't get the car until later in the year. Reasons I picked it: roomy, quite refined and well built and £200 a month. Plus if I want fun when I drive i have my old Porsche sportscar for high days and holidays.

Despite Skoda is more practical and rational choice (sound proofing), I still vote for Renault. For my taste a car must provide some emotions to you, that's why I have chosen Civic instead Golf despite Golf is more rational choice.

I own new Civic too. But Civic is quality. And Renault is just a 💩 plastic. You can’t compare good quality Skoda with Renault. Sorry.

Marek, as to 'most will buy lower trim' ..... definitely not. As with most SUV / CO pundits, >60% of Renault Captur buyers opt the 2 most expensive versions. Other than that, this quality comparison test - in trademark MD brilliance - brought tears of joy.

My problem with virtual instrument clusters is that most of them struggle to maintain 20 FPS, let alone 60...

In this class and price I am thinking of buying the Renault. The Kamiq is allright but it is too ordinary. The 2008 looks really appealing but what bothers me is the position of the steering wheel. Its upper part gets in the line of sight. The Renault seems to be the perfect combination between style and function.

I do believe this video is not fair. 1The hood has a button to close it, not by hand. 2Line assistance and adaptive speed not mentioned on kamiq. 3Interior Kamis soft and plastic comparison with the Renault. 4 Consumption/km ....... etc....... Waiting my 2021 Kamiq next month.

The only thing that makes me sway slightly more for the capture is that fantastically handy 360 camera, I have mobility issues so not having to twist and turn all the time will be very convenient for me HOWEVER I do wish they had the electronic tailgate 😭 still debating between the 2 but I think it’s going to be the Renault. Does anyone know if the automatic Renault is still as good as the manual?

Having driven the new Captur with the 145 hybrid setup i found the entire car to work very well, i really like the hybrid system but the issue that i had was with the seats in the captur. they are too narrow at the shoulders, it gave some strange pressure at my shoulder blades which wasnt painfull or anything but it just felt weird. which is a real shame because the rest of the car suited me really well. I expect the Kamiq to suit me better when it comes to the seats and with the 1.5 engine it should be a good car to drive on longer journeys, im planning to testdrive one soon

Since I recorded this review, I have also driven the Captur E-Tech. It was during the winter (something like -10 degrees Celsius), and a transmission error popped up on the dash (Risk of Transmission Damage). The solution (from Renault) was to turn everything off, lock the car, and wait a couple of minutes for the computer to reset itself, but this doesn't inspire confidence. Apparently the PHEV doesn't do well in low temperatures.

I would take Captur before Kamiq but 2008 before Captur.

I would go for the Renault. It‘s design is much more emotional and I know that this car is driving very well. I‘m driving a Captur in the first generation with the beloving Diesel dci110. Best choice! 😉

Hands down; I’d chose the Renault Captur. More beautiful, more comfortable, better pricing, nicer interior, four cilinder engine (1.3), and very reliable (yes it is!)

If you're not reviewing any cars for a while it would be fun for you to do a video where you build your own car/crossover. Take all the best features from every car you reviewed over that last year to come up with the perfect car.

Hi Marek I really DO like your videos. Above all your distinguished kind of humor. On your final question: I'd prefer the Kamiq's technics with the Capture's tin around it. Means: The Skoda is probably the better car, but the Renault beyond all doubt the prettier one. Technical question to you: Why do the LED Headlights flicker sometimes and sometimes they don't? Stay brave! Stay well!

Thanks! Flickering LEDs have to do with camera frame rate. In some cases I can adjust the frame rate manually to fix the issue, but in the Kamiq there seemed to be no good camera setting. Or I would get flickering on the Captur :)

All the stuff about renault infotainment and the driving asisstance is corrected now... they did alot of updates since launch and finaly its better and stable but when I got my clio (which is same as captur in terms of tech) it was bad...

Thanks for the comparison! They happen to be the 2 cars i am hesitating between... Budjet wise, i am looking at the Initial Paris finish for the Renault, and the Style finish for the Kamiq. But I have a question: I really like the white trim for the seats and couldn't configure it on the Kamiq in the Netherlands... Is that country dependant? Thanks

It could be market specific or taking into account the pandemic, there may be some limitations as far as configuring cars is concerned.

I would take the Scala. It is same as Kamiq, but with bigger boot and interior space, and a better price.

Hi Marek! Hope you are having a great week! Would you recommend the 1.5 tsi in the Kamiq in the Style trim? I would not mind slightly more litres per 100 km, since i do not (yet) trust the 3 cylinder and i like a little punchier engine and more performance. The captur looks great, but i fear Renault's reliability.

AFAIR I haven't driven any car with the 1.5 TSI engine since Mk7 FL Golf launch event a couple of years ago. I don't know if/what software tweaks were made since then.

I've had a 2014 Captur from new and apart from the occasional software glitch, no issues. I had a Skoda Octavia 1.5TSI as a hire car in Scotland last year (automatic) and was so impressed I was hoping to get one as my next car (I need something a bit larger than the Captur now). So I'd say no worries over buying either of these 2

Spoiler alert - the gearbox is also jerky in the Juke, which has a regular lever.

Just a tip: Tip to toe means you can close trunk with your foot tip swinging under the car. Or use the button to close it 👍

What is the difference in riding hight? The idea with this segment is to give you an SUV-like feeling, but I heard Kamiq had a seating hight of a hatchback. The Captur is taller on paper at least, but how it translates in seating hight?

Depends on the hatchback. I recently sat in the Fiat Tipo, where I had to pump the seat up. In the Ford Focus on the other hand I always feel I'm sitting too high.

Škoda cup holders have knobs on the botoom to enable you to open the bottle using only one hand.

Kamiq offers a lot more on Basic editions. Renault's basic editions are too basic! You have to pay a lot to add them. So, at the same price, I believe Kamiq offers a lot more. Let's say with 20-21k Euros, you get a way better car if you select the Kamiq.

I don't know why they put all those lines on the reversing camera, there is nothing quite as accurate as reversing sensors and eyes and mirrors. If you can't use your mirrors you should not be driving. I like the side by side comparison better than the one after the other comparison, but strangely enough I thought the Skoda came out best, but their prices are not what they used to be.

I can use my mirrors, but if you get used to the guiding lines it works perfect too. Yes you could still send a message while writing a letter on paper, but why not using an easy new way, email or whatsapp :-)

Attention Unfortunately Skoda still use old fashion technology Xenon lights and these lights make too much condensation. I got my new Kamiq and I am very very disappointed about that. Company says this is normal, but I was not informed before I buy the car. So your new Kamiq will not always look so nice as in the showroom, but depending the weather, the lights will be foggy.

Captur was really cramped for me. And the bench, when moved forward for more boot, means that NOBODY can sit in the back seats. Also some of the plastics in the floor get in the way of your feet, especially when exiting the car. IMHO they did great with the exterior design, but really dropped the ball on the interior. Kamiq on the other hand had to be made "artificially" smaller, because otherwise it would outcompete Karoq. It makes no sense to me that Scala has a bigger boot then Kamiq, yet they are virtually the same car. An SUV is supposed to be more practical car shape :)

Anyone know what he means about the digital display? Can't see it mentioned much on the comments here.

@@stephencommane1875 I said I generally like it, but some of my fellow journalists had problems with the system crashing. Maybe it was an early car, maybe it happens more often. Perhaps when you're test driving the car or just visiting the showroom, you can spend a few minutes just clicking through the system, and seeing how it responds, and how you like it.

Is eventually the T Cross the best among all these b SUV’s???

2020 juke, the best among all B-class.

Kamiq wins

Reno better looking, but cheeper material inside and less space. Reno is not family car, can be used for family with small kids, because no space on back seats. And Reno has the worst in class infotainment system. But it is very nice. Skoda has better automatic transmission and better driving experience. Skoda is far better if you seat on back seats. But Skoda is boring. And this days Skoda is cheaper with same equipment

Well, glad I got a 2017 Vitara. These two seem unappealing.

The problem with the Renault is that it’s French, and it’ll depreciate faster than a fast thing !

The most important information for any SUV-Ground clearance: Renault Captur - 200 mm (best in class,real SUV) Skoda Kamiq - 170 mm

The first generation of captur did indeed have 200mm of ground clearance but not this new version

360 camera is useless in every car. It's to distorted, you can't trust it at all.

For those who jever tried both. Skoda a little more expensive but a lot better materials and quality overall. Renault is little cheaper but there is a garbage plastic inside. Low low quality. If you force me I wouldn’t buy Renault.

Wow... Renault finaly gets to be considered as an actual car. But really, you can't compare the quality of Skoda to Renault, it's two different levels.

The Captur's design is too bad + Kamiq has more interior space...

If you are 181 cm or taller and have long legs and like to drive with the seat up, the 2008 is not for you as the steering wheel gets in touch with your thigh. Even in its uppermost position. And if the seat is lowered to give clearance to thighs, the sitting position is no longer SUVish.

I'm not a Skoda fan but since when Reno became a CAR? I thought the only place someone bought it, was France.

I had a Renault Captur as a hire car for two weeks ....it was driven on the motorway and also in the alps. I normally drive a Karoq and a Yeti. I will say I don't like Renault before I report what I think because they are so unreliable. I have to say I absolutely hated the Captur. Bearing in mind it was nearly new. the brakes squealed...every panel of the car and the engine rattled and felt like it was going to fall to pieces and the Bluetooth and phone operation was a joke.. barely audible and only worked when it wanted to... very much like the comments about systems in the video very hit and miss.... When I got back into my Skoda I breathed a sigh of relief.. For me at least this was a hateful cheap tinny piece of French automotive junk

Skoda every day of the week. The oversized Renault logo provokes running jokes, especially when wifey drives. And the name "Captur" sounds artificial and odd in my ears. Wifey actually forbid me to ever even consider a Renault.

In Polish (spelled with a k) it means "hood".

I think the VW looks cheap . I own a capture , the gold one but the DCI version which is ULEZ compliant ...I also have lighting on the doors in my " S " edition . We get a choice through. The infotainment system of three levels of driving ......Sense .....sport ....eco . These things are notentionedcin your video so I think you need to cover other models. . I wouldn't but the Skoda it doesn't look special enough...looks cheap Where's my capture is beautiful ..
