What is it with Skoda's styling of late? They used to be really nicely styled - especially the previous generation Octavia and the Yeti, but they are now ultra boring. The Kamiq, Karoq, Scala and Kodiaq are so bland and unoriginal compared to their rivals, as well as Skoda's older models from the 2000s. They have no appeal for younger people anymore and are only likely to appeal to older people or those who don't care what the car they are driving looks like!

I agree it's not very innovative, they were lazy to design it and it shows, but hey, why fix something that ain't broken

As a Škoda enthusiast, I am smitten with this exciting new model!!.

I really like the look of the Kamiq. I moved over to Skoda last year buying the Octavia Estate, the best car I’ve owned so far I reckon (nice balance of comfort, practicality, and performance), having flirted with Kia (well built but dull to drive), Toyota (USED to be a very good brand), and Fords in the past.

Bought Kamiq 1.5 TSI brilliant to drive, get 58.2 mpg on travel to work , comfortable spacious. Love it

wow, I'm not fan of Skoda, but I really liked this car. Well done!

Own a magic black skoda kamiq 1.5 litre style, 150 hp. My wife and me are pretty much happy!

This will be my next car! ♥

Am into my 3rd week of owning a 115 DSG Kamiq SE and am stunned by the all-round quality. Ride is very smooth and comfortable,and reasonably quiet. Brakes, engine and gearbox also smooth, vastly more so than the mk6 Polo I traded in for this one. Build quality excellent, consumption fine. Believe the rave reviews.

Skoda Kamiq - my vote

I am in love with this car.

Nice vid. I have a suggestion/question for a possible future vid/article. Seeing as this segment is one of the most cluttered and good selling of all segments, I was wondering if a comparative could be done on the cool features and options of the infotainment and driving/parking assistance between the competitores. This class now offers great bang for buck but who has better offers on the infotainment and driving assistance end? Would like to see between the 2008, Capture, Kamiq, Arona, T-cross, CX-3, etc. Thanks

In uk, the electric tailgate is a purchased extra. If you want folding mirrors they can only be purchased as part of a larger additional package.. . They tuck you up in the uk. Doesn’t even come with a slimline spare wheel, just the expanding foam stuff… Despite that I do like the Kamiq…

I really agree with you

Really looking forward to arrival of new Skoda Kamiq. Waiting for news when appearing in showrooms. Real congratulations to Skoda for not cheapening interior like VW T-Cross, T-Roc and Seat Arona dashboards. Cost cutting taken too far. My only criticism on tests so far is why not have electronic handbrake? Very hard to give up after years of use and benefit.

Is there a twin clutch auto?

Another very clever car from skoda always one step ahead of vw and seat by making their cars bigger and more practical.

This is a clever SUV, but it is a VW pretty much. I'm not sure why the video description says that the main rivals to this vehicle is a Seat Arona or VW T-Cross since they are all part of VW Group.

jason brown Agreed, but the difference here, is that the Kamiq, though build on the same MQB0A-platform, has been streched, so the wheelbase is 10 cm longer than the T-Cross and the Arona. On top of that, the finish in the Kamiq seems to be better, with more soft materials in the cabin, and a larger selection of equipment, such as glassroof and powered tailgate.

@@jesperhald3969 Since we don't know the prices yet, it's hard to compare it to the other rivals on the market. The fact that it's longer is a plus only if you need a bigger car otherwise as a city car could be a disadvantage. Finally, VW cars do not compete against each other. VW executives aren't idiots and wouldn't let their brands to bleed each other. Those slightly different cars are parts of complementary marketing strategies to fight the real "enemies".

I have nevr had a Skoda, Currently I'm driving Volvo V40.Probably I should try one ... Maybe this or the new Octavia. I will test drive them both, butalready I have a feeling that botht of them are giving more value for the money that my current one.

Skoda has really focused on attention to detail here and also offered big car features. Something's wrong here when it's interior is better built than the equivalent VW. There's more flagship equipment too. The skoda is supposed to be the budget version. The seat the sporty youthful one and the VW the more premium feeling one. Something has gone wrong. They've mixed it up. The VW is the good looking sporty one, the skoda is the premium one and the seat is the budget one. If the skoda costs more than the VW that'll be even more of a shock!

Skoda always win the internal VAG build quality audit, much to Audi's annoyance. My Dad had one of the old rear engined communist Skodas; the design may have been antiquated but it was exquisitely built, take any panel off and there was a full gloss body colour top coat inside. I liked it when you turned the ignition on with a huge old fashioned Yale type key and all the dials jumped to their correct readings.

Engine smoothness? Road / wind noise?

The car has czech license plates, but video was shot near Strasbourg as I can see from the map on touch screen. ;)

Very informative. Skoda always seems to put thought into practicality that other manufacturers ignore, and aside of the style gap and usual badge snobbery, there are fewer reasons to get an equivalent VW. In my honest opinion, of course. To add, I don't see anybody regularly getting 53mpg from a 1.0 litre 115 PS petrol engine in a car that weighs nearly 1.2 tonnes.

I have a Seat Arona with the 1.0l 115PS engine and get around 40mpg with a mixture of city and country road driving

4:08, that info vs T-cross is really misleading! I’m just back from the Zürich motorshow, checked out the T-cross, Arona, Scala, T-Roc, Karoq and Kamiq etc. First thing I was suprised was how small the T-cross boot is (with the seats in the normal back position), The Kamiq was much bigger in the respect. In the flesh, the car looks better, the Scala was impressive too. My wife kept jumping between the vw equivalents and saying that Skoda is the clever choice. (But might buy a Golf GTE!).

Decent summary but would be nice if you actually mentioned front seat comfort and whether suitable for a larger driver. Pretty fundamental miss in a review. Why don't you cover something so critical for a driver?? 🤔

Much much nicer looking than kona and t cross...and in the same level of t roc.by design.I really like this car.Never owned a skoda,but there always can be first time.

Such a shame that they aren't doing AWD. This really is no replacement for the Yeti

I have to point out, that the Kamiq isn’t the first Skoda to use the “animated” turnsignals. The Scala has Them as Well. The two cars uses the same stretched MQB0A-platform.

Hi Jesper - apologies we should have clarified it's the first Skoda to have all-round directional indicators. The Scala has them on the rear only. Hope it didn't spoil your viewing!

The build quality on my mk6 Polo was abysmal., totally shaded by my Kamiq

@@filipdurbaba well i have over 17k km on it by now... I have a sport pack and media pack and for bad roads pack... Comes with 17" Wheels... 1.5t motor is not bad at all.. I m very sporty on anythin.. Car or snowboard or mbike lol, but its good enough... Of coirse it doesn't stick as quattro in curves even with sports mode.. But u sit higher...Led Lights are great... I made around 20trips towing stuff on hwy.... U can go around 5.2l/100km, my style is like i said very sporty and i m around 7.1l in a long run... I took STYLE in free blue colour... They want like 20k euro for it but mine is for 4 years/180k km.. And then i return it back

@@filipdurbaba yeah no problem man, i dont know if its called the same there or if u are in 🇨🇿.. Your name seems like it but hey no problem in English language right :) so i would pick Style (not Ambition) there is a lots of difference.. Not only in lights, but other stuff like # of airbags, assistances, radio and # of speakers, parkin sensors and so on... I got 16" for winter and cant wait to go back on 17"....so different in handling.. If you are lookin for somethin like this in 4x4 and more power, then i would try Seat Ateca... Thats what i ll go for in 3 years... I dunno if they make 4x4 in Seat Arona(which starts around same range) but I have found Kamiq not really good in snow.. Havent tried a lot, but even in Prague lol.. I like quattro, way more fun.. And my tires didnt spin that much ever..! My front tires are like 40% more used then rear.. :) good luck and lots of good km's man

No automatic version? I've got a duff hip and can't declutch. Those indicators are a solution looking for a problem. If there was just one indicator each end, or there was on above the other, I could see the point, but I would assume most of us can cope with the amber light on the left meaning that the driver wishes to move left. Looks good, excellent for the price in fact.

Im in a toss up between thjs and a ford puma,having driven ford for years,the puma is lovely but just so expensive for whatyou get,over £21k for one with nothing in it,yet a2019 kamiq with the 1.0 115bhp engine can be bought for £19 k with auto park adaptive cruise, rear camera,blis, which a good price for the amount of spec on them

1ltr engine for such a bulky car, is it good enough?

The kamiq 2020 1.0 tsi is the working man's rolls Royce I know I have one _& there great value for money. Comfort as any armchairl 😎😎😎

the karoq is the yeti direct replacement, the kamiq despite being smaller, might still be more than enough for your needs but the karoq is the direct replacement of the yeti

Here in Israel we get the Hyundai Kona only with the rather strong 1.6 Turbo engine (177HP), FWD or AWD, both with automatic gearbox. It is by far better in performance than the Arona/Kamiq/T-Roc with that puny 3 cylinder 1.0 L turbo ...

Yep it is, but if i would buy any of these 3 i would go for the 4 cylinder 1.5 tsi evo with 150hp. It is a pretty strong engine.

In my opinion, the best SUV/crossover for the money is Suzuki S-Cross, 1.4. This Skoda looks nice, but it is waaaay more expensive.

In most VW motors when you put your car under battery mode without ignition then you get the icon flashing

Why do you feel the need to explain the wheel base, surely car drivers are aware that the wheel base is the distance between the axles with the need for it to be explained.

Why do you keep saying T-cross? Isnt it T-Roc? Of the 4 cars I would choose Kona because of the Price/performance ratio. I actually chose Kona :)

I don't know, but kamýk in old czech is synonymum to skála (rock) - scala. Not official though. I suppose "q" is a cool letter.

I have owned two Skodas and am a fan of the marque, but somehow the Kamiq leaves me cold, no matter how good it is an an all-rounder. The over-reliance on touchscreen technology common to all new Skodas is a retrograde step motivated by cost-saving rather than ergonomics, while the new 1.5EVO engine is seriously flawed and should be given a wide berth.

They’ve copied Citroen’s front light set-up
