Skoda Enyaq iv80 for 24hrs review and real-world tests of range and running costs.

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Hi everyone. This time I have a Skoda Enyaq (not enyak) iv80 77kwh battery. It’s a very well made and specious practical family electric car. I use it for a couple of days to get to know it well and give my opinion plus test the real-world efficiency, running costs and range!
This is a Rear wheel drive RWD version with quite a few optional extras so with a list price of near £50,000 is this the premium executive but family functional EV it wants to be?
Head up display
LED matrix headlights
Leather interior
massage seats
and much more...
Thanks for watching!

Instavolt is 75p/Kw, BP pulse 69p/Kw, Ionity 69p/Kw, Shell 79p/Kw. My wife has a Enyaq 60. It's great for 80% of the time, but only getting 3-3.5miles/Kw (no heat pump) quoted a 177mile range (vs 262?) on 100% this past week. As she travels around the UK the price of charging at rapid (50Kw+) is expensive, purchase price of the car was £10k more than an equivalent new diesel Karoq from skoda. No one can get a 7p economy rate anymore, octopus go is now 12p, if you're lucky enough to be able to switch and have off street parking. I have an Audi estate with 600 miles range on one tank and it takes minutes to fill. Travelling around the uk is a faff with the amount of apps, broken chargers, busy ones, plan a-b-c. How can you have a quick stop (30 mins) when you need to get between meetings etc. Tesla seems the only way to go, but are another 10k premium on top of the skoda, seems more and more like these are 'man maths'.

Almost the same spec as my car. I have the standard interior (loft) but also a heat pump and tow bar with a 22 plate. I've done just under 2000 miles with a long-term average of 4.3miles/kwh which is much better than I was expecting and surprisingly the same as the WLPT range which we were told no one can ever get for any EV. Recently drove up to the Peak District (starting with 100% SOC) from Leamington Spa for a few days, drove about a bit when we were up there for our walking holiday, and got home with 130 miles left. To be honest I didn't think about range once. Our predicted range in warm weather is 360-370 and as the weather has got colder it's currently about 350, and will probably go down to 300 when winter starts properly. It does feel like a really solid, well-put-together car. Acceleration is ample for a family car. Although it's a nice-looking car and extremely comfortable, bordering on luxurious for us (subjective opinion), it doesn't really get any attention (which I don't want). These days it can be negative as well as positive when it comes to EV's. Anyway, so far delighted with the car and agreed with your very fair review.

I tried one of these last year but ended up ordering a Q4 instead (although ended up with a different car due to massive delays - that’s another story). I found the Enyaq a great car, very refined and comfortable and a huge boot. It was though more expensive to lease than a Q4 when you specced it up. If it had been cheaper then I would have gone for one - it was a close second to the Audi.

Enjoyed the review, thanks Richard. I also share your irritation with the Lane Assist defaulting to on. In fact I think it is positively dangerous to have on in town. I have a SEAT Mii Electric which featured on one of your earlier videos and had the same problem. It is solvable - I purchased a small OBD11 for a few pounds which I believe will also work on Skoda and VW, which allowed me to alter the setting for the lane assist to remember the last mode selected. So once you turn it off it stays off until you turn it back on. Hope that helps.

We've had a similar Enyaq iV 80, also with just about all the options, for 9 months now and it is indeed a lovely family car, the best and most luxurious car we've had so far. We've had e.g. an Audi A4, a couple of Volvos, a VW Passat and a Ford S-Max before, but this Enyaq is topping them all. We've driven over 20000 km / 12400 miles with the Enyaq during these 9 months, already way more than we drove with the previous VW Passat GTE during any of the years we had it. So good.

Hello from Doncaster and thanks for the video. I bought Enyaq IV 60 about 3 weeks ago and have just done my long trip from Doncaster to Southampton and back. I do appreciate the bigger battery but covering the distance of 210 miles with the smaller one required one 15 min charging stop at Fastned Oxford having had wet roads and head wind and reaching my destination with 20% which is not bad. In better weather conditions I could have reached Southampton without having to stop along the way. Well done Skoda. My consumption was 3.5 miles per KWh 😊

If you get an OBDEleven OBD dongle you can modify the car settings so that lane assist goes to "save last setting" mode, so it doesn't turn itself on every time you start the car. I've also used it to turn off Adaptive Cruise Control based on traffic signs, and to set the cruise control granularity to 1 km/h instead of 10.

Appreciate the Skoda as a CAR, it is excellent for the price. Once again, although this VW group car is at software V.3.N, it still exhibits annoying habits like those mentioned defaults. My ID3 is going to the dealer soon for V2.4 [thanks for not telling me, VW] so that it can get to V3.2 via OTAs. In summary, I would say that if you are a bit of a nerd, like me, the software is still going to annoy slightly. A whole less than the V2.3.0 currently in my ID3, and if you still can't stand the software inadequacies after all those OTAs you've got to go full blown Tesla or surrender the identity of your car to Apple Car Play or Android Auto. Me, I'd rather VW keep trying to get better, although I may end up driving a Tesla M3 eventually.

Three in the back works much better in the Enyaq than in the Tesla Model 3, and the Kia available at the time of order - what has to be remembered is that by the time people get the cars they ordered, it is often 12-24 months later and other models have been released in the meantime. Also on charging, if you have solar at home and a 3.5kW charging speed set up on day you are not using the car, it's free.

Interesting review Richard but whilst I know you're a Tesla dealer why does everything have to be compared to a Tesla on the car, surely you've driven other EVs that you can compare the features to? It's like when you hear other car reviewers basing their hatchback review on a VW Golf, why when a Golf isn't as good as everyone makes it out, similarly the Skoda like the Tesla is way too expensive both to buy and insure. 50k is madness for a family car electric or not, how many families are going to have that kind of money for such a thing or even one of your Teslas?

On 500 Icon it defaults to on but two presses on the left stalk disables it. I would much prefer to turn it off permanently. The roads where I am are so bad that it reads the ruts instead of the white lines and will take you to the middle of the road or push you over the line, which no longer exists! The Ionia 5 maybe more ‘out there’ design wise but I think it will age quite quickly, the dashboard especially. For me it looks much better than the ‘Y’ and it has the option of the proper Matrix headlights, head up display and sunroof. Why Tesla don’t offer these options is a bit of a disappointment. It’s going be hard for some like Rsymonds to do tests all year round. I’ve learnt a lot around the different models off his videos. It’s the main dealers that should be giving true figures on range. But yes a winter test when you have to defrost the car & you have to have the heater on & things would be useful & giving the day to day range eg 80% SOC to 20% SOC for winter driving & how efficient it is then too. As well as summer figures too. With big battery Ev’s you don’t see that much of a loss in battery percentage terms but you do see a loss on the miles per kw. I know a few years ago when I had a bmw i3 94ah with a usable 27.6 kw battery my summer range averaged 140 miles & winter range dropped to 100 miles in below 5c conditions. Which is a big drop. But these new cars with 70 or 80 kw battery’s will lose less percentage. All dealers need to give real world ranges for summer & winter & not the max but the range you will get from 80% to 20%

Anyone who is interested in a good video around the true cost of using an Ev check out the latest What Car video entitled Electric v/s petrol. It’s a proper unbiased video , It’s shocking they test a Bmw i4 M50 against a bmw M440i petrol. They fill the petrol one up at motorway services at the cost of £1.99 a litre , it come down since then & the i4 Ev at ionity at the cost of 69p a kw which is actual cheap now a days for a Rapid charger. They did the same with two Peugeots 206 petrol & Ev one. Drove in convoy a 200 to 230miles trip to Leeds & the next day drove back. All the Ev’s where over £10,000 more to buy than the petrol versions. What car also said since this was actually film petrol had dropped in price & electric had gone up. The Peugeot cost £10 more in electric than the petrol one cost in fuel. The bmw Ev cost £5.50 more in electric than petrol. But remember they used a M440i 3.0 litre twin turbo petrol. People will comment how cheap there Ev cars are to run for them. But this video shows you if you go on long journeys where you need to use a rapid charger , it is now cheaper to run a petrol car. And come April according to the latest of the chancellor the cap will go & they are just going to help the vulnerable. If that turns out to be the case the current estimates are home electric will go to at least 60p per kw. I know some Ev owners will say about the cheap night time charging rate like the octopus one at the moment is 10p off peak for 6 hours & 42p peak , But remember your paying an extra 8p per kw from 05:30 in the morning till 23:30 at night so every kw you use during those hours is costing you 8p more. Octopus energy are not a charity. They are here to make money. So check out how many kw you use from 05:30 till 23:30 as it might be costing you more than you save at night. On a personal note , none of my comments are a criticism of anyone , apart from car dealers. I personally have saved around £15,000 in 5 years driving Ev’s. But I have never paid up to yet to have one serviced. When I have bought a brand new car I have always had it thrown in. I refuse to pay to have an Ev serviced as they don’t need to be serviced. And I have been lucky getting free charging at work for years now. Which is ending next week. Plus it’s only really the last 12 months that has seen energy prices sky rocket , Rapid chargers only used to be 20p / 25p up till 12 months ago. All my comments are just to give people the proper information around driving / using an Ev

I considered the Enyaq last year when considering a first EV having been a happy ICE Skoda owner for 20 years or so ( 4 different cars ). However I didn't like the newer way Skoda does the options lists. You end up having to buy packs to get one item you really want but have to fork out for those you don't. Come resale that specked up car will lose a lot of the cost of those upgrades. It would make a cracking second hand buy and I think much nicer than the VW equivalent .

When I bought mine, all the options were individually priced so you could have just what you wanted, but people complained it was too complicated. Now, they're grouped the into 3 or 4 trim packs. You can't please all of the people, all of the time.

@@Notagain640 I'd prefer the way you were provided options. When I was looking at the Enyaq the option list was very long ( just look how long it took Richard to read what the video car had on it. ). I was more used to Skodas of old having a few trim levels and you could spec up from there. For example top spec would be L&K had standard improvements on the trim below but at less of a cost. My concern is traditionally with options you get less of a % of option costs back on resale compared to the % back on the car itself, if you see what I mean .

Although the Enqay was my 1st choice I found a Mustang Mach E AWD Extended that was available within a week so cancelled & ordered that (it was our 2nd choice car mainly due to boot size. Rsymons You do some great video’s & give really useful information on cars & ranges & specs. But I see you holding back on the true cost of Ev’s when talking about charging costs & other things related to Ev’s. The Osprey charger you was at was £1.00 a kw for non members & people that don’t own a car less than 12 months old & get a discount. So to fully charge that Skoda would cost around £77.00 for 250 - 280 miles. So for £77.00 you can get just over 10 gallons of petrol , So if you fill up your Ev there it’s like driving a car that only does 25 - 28 mpg. Any petrol car that does over 28 mpg would be cheaper to run than that electric. A lot of Ev chargers are now around the 79p per kw & unless the government are going to step in , which looks very doubtful at this moment come April 2023 that’s going to shoot up even higher. Home standard electric rates are predicted to be 60p per kw in April , God know what these rapid chargers will go to in April. Look the truth is no one can predict the future. But do not buy an electric car / Ev expecting to save money. If you do save money it’s a bonus. But the truth of it is the way things are at the moment they will cost you more to buy & run. Some myths around electric cars listed below. 1. They do not need servicing mostly true , but new cars under warranty have to be serviced or it voids your warranty. 2. They are cheaper to service than petrol & diesels , can be true. But on cars less than 5 year old cars it’s a lie. Simply fact is with Ev’s / electric cars dealers need to make money out of there service centres. So the prices of getting a service on a new Ev car compared to a petrol is the same as the first year for all cars is just a check. The next 4 years the only difference is an oil & filter change. So you might make a tiny saving. 3. Ev / Electric cars cost more to insure over petrols true compared to there petrol equivalent they are more expensive. 4. Free charging , Nearly all free chargers have gone now , even Tesco are charging from the 1st Nov 2022. 5. The manufacturer quoted range only a few manufacturers tell the truth & give you real world ranges. MG are one the best for this. Even Tesla don’t give real world ranges. If you drive an Ev like you drive your petrol car , you will get know where near the stated range. The winter you can lose 20%. Plus remember the manufacturer say to look after the battery drive it between 80% & 20% so that 250 mile quoted is really 150 miles & in the winter less than that. 6. Charge up from 20% to 80% in 15 mins can be true , if your at a fast enough charger & the battery is at the right temperature & the right state of charge. But for most people it will take longer. 7. When doing the calculations on an Ev saving you money , remember to add the extra interest you pay on the loan or finance as Ev cost more than the petrol version by normally £10,000 to £40,000 & that extra cost , costs you more in interest.

Where I live in Surrey UK a big proportion of EVs are at the premium end because they are company / business owner cars. The tax savings make an EV a "no brainer". A vast percentage of these owners also charge at home on the cheap rate. Effectively the current UK government incentive for EVs is a hidden tax cut for better off people. This is not a political statement, simply a fact! When they wanted to reduce the cost of subsidising EVs, they could have left the fixed grants in place and increased the BIK percentage on company cars so everyone got some incentive. At the other end of the scale private buyers who can't charge at home will save very little. Nothing or even an increase after building in the hassle factor. One thing nobody ever seems to build into the calcs is charging efficiency which is usually about 85% on ac. If the car says you have used 10kWh you will take 11.8kWh from the charger to replace it. Not an issue at 7.5p/kWh but more important at 80p/kWh (tbh I don't know what the efficiency is for DC charging)

@@enyaq_gorm I wasn’t saying the price & interest affects everyone , I was just trying to give anyone looking at changing to an Ev the right information , As so many new Ev owners know nothing about them. I met loads at charging points & they have no idea. One old couple who had been sold a brand new Mercedes EQC where unplugging there car at Tesco every 15 mins or so as it kept stop charging. They thought the charger was faulty. It wasn’t till I told them they needed the pod point app to confirm the charge or it will turn off after 15 mins , I had to use mine to click confirm for them as they didn’t own a smart phone. Some dealers should be ashamed selling car to people who clearly don’t have any idea. He said the sales man told him he would save thousands on fuel , which he won’t as he told me they only did 4,000 miles last year.

Just today had a 300km road trip in one. The car was okay and it's without a question one of the better looking cars out there. But the interface and it just came from the latest update. There is absolutely zero logic in what the different buttons does. I have also never had to spend so much time just changing a radio station. The autobraking when it sees a sign drove me mad, it even does it if you have all does stupid features switched off. It snowed on the way down so of course it lost the acc cruise control and I for the sake couldn't find away to get just a normal cruise control that has existed for last 60? years. Normally it wouldn't have bothered me but the accelerator is so jumpy it's almost impossible to keep the speed constant (maybe deep in some idiotic sub menu there is a setting for it) It also had a dead steering in the middle so you are constantly sitting and correcting it. Why why does electric cars have to have these stupid idiotic touch screen interfaces that is just hopeless to use. I like technology, but this is just stupid design and no wonder people are so crap to drive today when all you attention has to be spent on a screen to do basic stuff that normally you would look at half a second for a button. Battery cars yes thankyou, but pleeaaaaaaaase give back the early 2000s car interfaces, they just work!

Nobody has mentioned the down side coming to all EV's and that is the supply network. a 7kw charger at home is not available everywhere, thats because the local substations cannot handle the load. When everybody has finally got a EV of some kind the total demand will be unattainable. Years ago there was a copper shortage, Aluminium was used, mainly because it was cheaper but its less able to carry high loads. So we will have a double whammy, high demand and bad supply. Me? I went Hybrid, mainly because I dont do 300 mile journeys and because the 35miles per day radius is sufficient for me. When I do go long distance, petrol is cheaper

As you'll have noted from your wealth of experience with Tesla, for environmental and ethical reasons alone, that is now increasingly the direction of travel for car interiors. (Check out 'Thomas' on the autogefühl channel. He has it right on this subject.) It would be nice, therefore, if you, too, could get with the program and be seen to welcome that development and, conversely, to condemn manufacturers who don't offer fully sustainable materials in their vehicles. Other than that, I enjoyed your review. Thanks for all the info. re. running costs etc.

I put it to charge 12h in my overly expensive public garage (0.88€/kWh, 4x the price, 1.5x more expensive than diesel). Fully charged it already delivers 3/4 of battery (the little battery doesn't fill up to the top) and a theoretical 400 Kms which goes down to 385 after 5 Kms. The car is a tank, feels heavy and slow (except you want to reduce your autonomy in 100 Kms after 10 Kms), I don't understand such a big family car that cannot take you to the nearest beach at 350 Kms.
