Skipping Out on a Roommate

Ойын-сауық

The plaintiff says he and two other people agreed to rent an apartment, but the deal fell through. He claims the defendant got a refund check from the landlord and then skipped out with the whole thing. He’s suing for what he’s owed. @@angelchrist54 That is not true. I had a house lined up that I really wanted and would have paid a third of what the lowest rent is around here and couldn't get the loan for it. I am in the average wage range for my area and my credit is in the low 700s. I even had a down payment ready but couldn't get it to go through. So I decided ok this sucks but I will save more and try again. All the houses that would have been in my price range are now bought by people who buy them and rent them or buy them and rent to own them out to people at crazy rates. So the only thing left at the end of the day are health hazard houses or over 6 figure houses.

@@coffeeaddictexpress5038 The program isn't a real court - its a TV program. Legally its a type of mediation service both parties agree beforehand to follow including to be filmed. As both parties are entitled to appearance fees - usually about $250 each (and the program covers travels cost associated with getting them to the Connecticut studios- for this case its probably just gas money) any award is taken first from the $500 appearance fee pool any balance left is paid by the production company to the winner and then the company recovers the money from the losing party. As the production is a private profit making company they can't charge 'court costs' or anything similar as 1 its not a Legal Court empowered to take them and 2 any 'costs' associated obviously are largely from the filming process and won't be legally able to be recovered from the people appearing as 'talent'.

Let's say he did not contact her, she had his contact information and could have let him know the money was returned. Then she should have set his amount aside until they could meet up. She was hoping he would not say anything so she could keep it. I'm not going to say she's a "horrible" human being but she took advantage in her desperate situation. No one is prefect, we all make bad decisions at some point in life, I just hope she learned from this and will make better choices from now on.
