It's good to see that he's recovering well. I've heard it said that cats are born with 'three legs and a spare', so hopefully Skids will be running around in no time.

Oh no! Poor baby! I'm crying right now, I'm so glad the little Skidmark is alright! I mean: Losing a leg isn't as bad for cats as it would be for humans. Blood poisoning of a dead limb on the other hand... that would be fatal for anyone. If it weren't for you looking after him... He's a lucky little guy. I guess Skid is just predestined to get in trouble. Sending you guys lots of love!

Poor Skids :( My cat was hit by a car, breaking his leg in two places. The operation to fix it went wrong and he needed the same right hind leg as Skids removed. 2.5 years later he is absolutely fine running around just as fast and still getting onto our garage roof and onto walls etc. It was a difficult first few months and he had some phantom pain but he got through it and was back to normal within half a year to a year :) I have a couple of videos of him on this channel if you wanted to have a look. Also if you have an questions feel free to ask, i may have had to experience something similar with my cat :)

Y.V-Young Vinny And years ago on the road he could have lost his life too. It hurts in my soul that his leg was soo hurt and the vets had to amputate it. But like everyone says "The cat is alright even with three legs"

Oh no!!! I've been here since you got him :( I don't really like cats but this story was a good one. Poor little guy has had a rough life... I hope he's better :(

My orange tabby Sparrow also had his leg amputated, you will be so amazed on how they are able to adapt. I wish for a happy recovery for Skid

It was a rough week for sure, but we are coming out on the other side of it now! Stitches come out on monday and we are so excited for that! So happy you've been here since the start, stick around and watch Skids bounce back from this!

what a great cat mom you are. you dont talk loud, your tone is gentle and calming , so many cat owners are too rough and loud with their cats is what Ive noticed, even the vet drs.

Poor Skids. I wish him the best of luck in recovery. I just can't believe he lost his leg. I had an accident like this happen with one of my cats, Stratus, where he was unfortunately killed in a freak fall off a high shelf. I feel your pain and I am very glad that this tough little survivor is going to live to fight and play another day. Nothing can keep Skidmark down!

That's excellent Skids is going to recover quick. Hopefully, my other cat, (who lives with my mom and has feline diabetes now that he's reaching 10 years old) will follow Skids' example, bounce back himself and go into remission.

I feld really sad when I first saw the pictures and videos on Instagram, but I'm glad to see that he is doing ok and hopefully he will be just as activ as he was before the accident, he always gets himself in trouble ^^

Oh my god I'm so sorry 😭😭 2018 hasn't been a good year for KZread kittens so far... I'm glad to know you're looking after him and trying to do your best for his health... It's still upsetting to know it happened tho... well, cats are good in adapting quickly, my in-law's lost her tail and it took her a short time to learn how to climb up the furniture again... wishing him the best... baby skids... 😭

Ask! Here's hoping he'll do OK now. -- years ago now, my grandmother had a mostly-outside cat who had been a stray. The cat got her leg caught in a fence, escaping some dog, and I had to take her kitty to an emergency vet. Her back leg was amputated. -- But weirdly enough, for the rest of her life, she'd hop-run along as if nothing was the matter. (She had a long recover period after the surgery of meds (antibiotics and painkillers) and recovered fine. -- So here's hoping Skids will do really well. Poor kitty. Good for you for helping him. I remember the videos when you got him and the other cat. :)

How long do you think the recovery take? How soon do you feel like your fur babe started walking better? My cat is scheduled for his amputation surgery and I'm searching like crazy to make sure I have what he needs to make it as easy as possible for him! 😓

@@moonchild860 I'm so sorry I didn't see your question sooner. I hope your cat did fine through surgery and recovery. It's been many years ago since my grandmother's cat had her amputation. She was on antibiotics and painkillers for something like a week to ten days, IIRC, confined to a bedroom. I was staying over anyway to care for my grandmother. It was something like 4 to 6 weeks, I think, for the basic healing process. She didn't feel like doing much anyway, and was a good patient. (I was so surprised. I would've expected a stray / semi-feral to get very agitated.) I don't recall for sure how long it was before she was fully healed and able to get back to all her usual activities. Maybe 3 months after the surgery all told? Maybe less? She was all-black and pale skin, and oh, her leg looked sad all shaved, but by being careful, she recovered fine. (I don't know how she kept from bothering the sutures.) She lived for several years, hop/run at surprising speed, as if it was no problem. It was ridiculously expensive; I wouldn't be able to afford it now; but for the years of having a happy cat and the joy it gave my grandmother and me, it was worth it. I'm honestly not sure how we made it through without more of a mishap. She didn't do much at first, but gradually explored all around the room, and it reassured her when I could spend time with her. My own cat stayed with me in the other bedroom which worked OK as he was a senior cat by then. I didn't try integrating the two. -- If I recall right, I think I slept in the room with the recovering kitty for the first couple of nights, making sure she was OK. This was, yes, scary and worrisome, a first. It amazed me how well she did. I don't know other people's experiences, but I've heard of other cases where cats had long, full lives after a leg or paw amputation. I think Kitten Lady (see her channel) had fostered a kitten or cat who had had an amputation. I hope this will help anyone who's going through this now. I wish I had more specific, useful answers on it. -- Be careful about giving the oral meds (antibiotics and painkillers), check the surgery site and leg every few hours for the first several days to make sure everything looks OK, and yes, send photos or take the cat to the vet if it seems too iffy, better see than sorry. The sutures and all should heal up OK. Make sure it's clean and dry and not bleeding. For those facing this, the vet should answer any questions and tell you all about after-care for recovery. Ask anything you can think of, and these days, email and phone and maybe video and photos, all can help your relationship with the vet if you have questions as it goes along. Best wishes for anyone out there dealing with this for their cat. Expensive but they can live a full life, many years, if their recovery goes well. And yes, it's really stressful, making sure they do OK, 'cause you love them and it's rough. The vet or techs can show you how to give oral medication, even injections if you're brave enough to give the injections. I hope it all works out for everyone.

Honestly losing a back leg is probably the easiest for a cat to recover from...it’s much easier for them to shift their weight to their front feet! He’ll do just fine...cats are fighters!

My dog got hit by a car. Dislocated her hip and lost one of her eyes. The person who hit her didn’t even stop. It sucked. But I realize it could’ve been her life or something a lot worst so I’m just happy she’s alive. I’m glad your cat is doing okay and I know how hard it can be seeing your animal like that

Skids is a lucky tabby, i used to have a beagle named Melvin, he lost an eye after getting hit by a car and he survived the accident.

A lot of animals are really good about when they lose and leg they're really good about walking around this won't stop him at all

I am in tears... my cat had his surgery today i cried through the whole time that he was being operated.. because vets told me he had high anemia and this surgery could kill him and we couldn’t postpone the surgery of his leg because he had internal bleeding 😭 but thankfully he survived and i am going to see him tomorrow at the vet.. and we will see what happens.. prayers for my boy taffy :( his legs are already weak so with one being amputated i am not sure how he will manage to walk.. ( weak because his nerves were damaged due to an accident back in 2013) hes 8 yrs old now :(

Zöe has been a tripod cat (same leg) since 2007. She's fine. Skids will need lots of help scratching the right side of his face for the rest of his life. Buy one of those silicone fingery grooming mitts; he'll love it when you use that thing on his right face. Also just tug all the hair on that side of his face to thin the half-loose itchy hairs.

You should either get one of those legs with those very tiny wheels on for him to stand on both of his legs or get one of those cat wheelchairs, or let him learn use 1 leg.

My cat gets an back leg amputation on Friday I'm so stressed out over it because one orthopedic doctor tried to plate his leg the first time and it broke again within days, I had to take him to another Orthopedic doctor and they said his bones were not good enough for plating and the first doctor should have amputated it, he is an older cat I'm so upset his leg wasn't amputated prior, Skid looks wonderful

Cat is using up his lives too quickly. Seriously though, I'm glad he's doing better. He might not get his full swagger back, but he should mostly return to normal. Source: I've had 3 cats in my life that required leg removal.

I guess that I just expected the rest of his life would be 'sunshine and roses' for the rest of his days. Knowing that I have seen him being rescued by you from day one at the traffic intersection to all the happy and fun video's you've posted of him (and Danny!) growing up over the years. It just gave me (your vlogs) a real secure sense that nothing bad was ever going to befall him again. To open that KZread mail and see that thumbnail with his leg being gone...I nearly lost it. At first, frankly, I was mad. Angry even. Like, how could you have let this happen? Then I watched the video to hear what you had to say about it. And I have just read your reply to my comment, and I know that you value Skid's freedom to roam. I am glad that many kind people have responded to you in helping to give he and Danny a safer place to enjoy the outdoors. I have to remember that without you, Skid's would never have gotten that 2nd chance. And for that, I thank you.

My cat mama treats had her leg amputated about a week ago but unfortunately had to go back yesterday to get more bone removed. We noticed on day Sunday that her nub bone poked through her stitches so the vet had to remove the rest to avoid the infection from spreading. How was his healing journey?? Any tips? Did they have you putting anything on his stitches?
