Sketching A French Weekend...Four Days In Beautiful Nancy, Eastern France

Ойын-сауық

Our son Paddy is doing his Erasmus programme in Nancy, eastern France. He could have chosen from any number of universities around the world, but he chose France: he went with nothing more than some intense French grinds from his mum, and has done exceptionally well.
His dad Marcel and I visited over the weekend, and while there were two flies in the ointment - it was very cold, and Paddy was very ill with a stomach bug - we had such a wonderful time. In four days you can't sketch too much AND enjoy the company of your loved ones, so what you don't see in this video are all the incredible meals we had, the brilliant wit of my companions and the sheer joy of being in France with a very funny Englishman who loves France and the French as much as he loves to joke about them. (That's my husband...who also has a truly French soul through his Franco-Mauritian father, so it's even funnier. Which, for the record, he denies.)
There's a lot of talk in this video about my Sketchpocket. It won't be too long before it's here, and available for you, which is great because I am so proud of this bag, the reason I got so much sketching in over four days. In an instant I had those ladies, in another I had that fine gentleman, always from life, in the moment. Soon you too will be able to capture the world as you find it, as conveniently as I do. I should have called it the Stand-Up Sketch Bag!
I hope you enjoy this video and of course it only behoves me to say...
Vive la France!

I never would have thought it possible to go that small but it’s been a godsend. It means you never spend too long, which is exactly what you need when you’re travelling, right? And thanks so much by the way!

I’m sorry but the river cruise is only for past favored customers of French Escapade on their 20th anniversary of starting their business. They are chartering a boat and they said it will be a one time only, but who knows, maybe it’s an idea that will take off. There are themed sea cruises for all kinds of hobbies and interests, and this seems to be one that would be popular. We aren’t having any instruction like their painting holidays on land.

Thanks Peter! No I don’t. I used to when I started. Sometimes I paint very lightly in dilute watercolour which is the same sort of thing but mostly there’s no time, my subject might move or change. However I’m full of tricks to get around the pitfalls of an incorrect, indelible line.
