Standing-Up Sketching In Ink & Watercolour - With My Indispensable SketchPocket!
Here I am in Lanzarote, trying to stifle the tears that fall like rain when your kids grow up and go on to exciting new pastures. All three kids are grown now and are sometimes home, sometimes not...and it's all heartbreaking, unless you have someone to whisk you away somewhere wonderful to distract you!
And so we're in the Canary Islands and it's just glorious. The Cactus Garden in the north of the island is beautiful - I love cacti and agaves of all kinds - and our visit there provided the perfect excuse to film my SketchPocket in action.
The SketchPocket has:
- fountain pens (I use fude pens)
- water brushes
- paint boxes (X2 in my case)
- white gel pens
- ink refills
- A6 sketchbook
...and lots of other bits and pieces that you can't travel without, like a phone pocket and somewhere safe for your passport and bank cards, but this video isn't about them. It's very simply about doing the whole video, start tp finish, standing up!
I hope you enjoy this video: I could have finished the sketch a bit more thoroughly but I was gasping for a cup of coffee! So fuel up before you launch into an on-location sketch session...

I recently discovered your channel and I’m so glad I did. I’ve been enjoying going through your older videos. I especially enjoy that some of them are very short. It gives me something to watch when I only have a few spare moments. I sometimes get bored of all the 30-60 minutes videos people post so I’m glad you offer an alternative. I love that you said, “I love to indulge myself in my beloved activity in sketching “ Often times I feel intimidated by buying a sketchbook that only has 15 pages vs a mix media that has 60. but sometimes it’s not about how many more pages, it’s about you just freaking want it, and you deserve to give yourself what you want where you can! I deserve to indulge myself sometimes with the 15 page sketchbook ; If that’s what the heck I want! (Telling my inner critic off 💪)
I bought Pentel water brushes a while ago, but they all leak out of the ferrule. Maybe I should ditch them and try the Sakuras.
