An Irish Outdoor Painting Festival...Paint Whatever Catches Your Eye!
Ойын-сауық
Hello lovely sketchers!
I have just finished teaching at a wonderful outdoor painting festival here in Galway, in Ireland. It's called Kinvara Plein Air and it's been running for the past few years. I have been fortunate to have been an invited tutor the last two years and I hope I have played my cards right, because I really want to do the same next year...
If you have ever wondered about attending a painting festival like this, remember what I say at the end of the video and don't ever feel intimidated. Art in all its fun and glory is for YOU as much as for anyone else, and your choice of subject, style and method is YOURS and yours alone!
I hope I conveyed that message to the wonderful students of sketching whom I was lucky enough to meet over the weekend.
Leave me a comment if you have thoughts - I answer every single comment because we are a community of sketchers, with a shared passion for the doing, the watching, or both, and I love to hear what you have to say.
Happy sketching - even if it's a bug!
Love,
Róisín

Oh yes, that was very enjoyable to watch! I really liked your cows in the field sketch. And your encouraging words at the end, so true. Thank you ☺️

You’re a doll Benita. Let’s sketch in Kinvara the next day we’re both free. Or even just look cool in our boots. ❤️
Wonderful video, so great to see Kinvara harbor and the folks gathering paint, and the tower and river and surrounding it. Beautiful

Yes it was a really lovely weekend. I’m so happy for Josephine Boland whose pet project this is.
So happy to find you! I’m a beginner watercolorist living in Arizona but I used to live in Dublin and Co Tyrone back in the 70’s. I was looking for an Irish artist teacher like yourself so I can sketch gorgeous scenes of my homeland! Erin go Bragh! 🇮🇪

Hello Muire! You’re in for a treat, I’m transferring all my teaching skills to KZread now that I’ve stopped teaching through Zoom. Welcome aboard!
Beautiful, thank you for the tour and the reminder to sketch whatever catches our eye. Love the little critter - sketching really is finding joy in the ordinary everyday ... including dead bugs!

Isn’t it? Thanks for your kind words Louise, and I totally agree about the joy in the everyday…!
You should listen to Michael Gambon reciting "The song of wandering Aengus" the most exquisite 4 minutes of poetry you'll ever hear. Loved your work!

@@gerryclarke9795 I used to sing that as a younger person 😍 And thank you ☺️
Beautiful! Yes i totally agree. Even though I’m part of a very small “Urban Sketching” group, when I go out to sketch, I draw whatever I like, be it a building, an insect, trees, a plant etc. Whatever it is, it will always bring back the memories of that place and that’s what it’s all about (together with the enjoyment of drawing it of course) 🙂

I’m glad you see it my way JoAnne! Thank you for your lovely comment ❤️
So enjoyed this; thank you so much for taking us on your weekend! I especially loved the drawing of the bug; I’m always picking up things on my walks to sketch. I’m so looking forward to doing that with you in Dunmore East this September:)

Thanks so much x
I love the bug picture. The one joy of sketching is you sketch what takes your attention. I sometimes sketch in The Royal Armouries, Leeds and draw all sorts of things. We had a sketch crawl at Beverley Minster and I drew the little stone figures, not the grand windows, because they were fun. So glad you had dry weather for the event.

Yes Jan, and we were flanked on either side with freezing weather that was mostly wet. So we were so grateful! And yes, the best bit of sketching is choosing what’s fun!
Great video and beautiful sketches, Roisin! Thank you so much for sharing! 😀
