    You have a knack for perfect timing! To be honest, watching you draw and erase is comforting. I dunno why but I've been in a long ass artist block / rut because each time, I would obsess over getting the anatomy right the first time. I would put so much pressure on myself to do so. Thanks so much for al your videos and advice, it truly helped not only after a long day but also in connecting with my artistic side with confidence and a more chill yet proactive mindset. I look forward to buying your new artbook too!💜

    Thanks so much :)) Glad to hear it too, i have a tendency towards expecting too much as well for, I think it's refreshing to re-examine your own expectations and think about why you hold yourself to that standard. For me erasing also felt like something less than perfection for a while, but nowadays I've managed to combat that useless mindset - the only person that cares about that is me and it serves no purpose x'D. Haha guess I'll get Microns now because at this point my Faber-Castell fine liners are skipping, the paper doesn't work well with them and they're more or less kinda dead. The illustration turned out great, it has the original 90's Superhero Western comics vibe mixed with some manga influence and I'm here for this!

  • @CosmicSpectrumArt

    @CosmicSpectrumArt

    2 жыл бұрын

    Thanks hahaha! Yeah I'd highly recommend microns compared to other fine-liners, in my experience if you're careful not to mess up the nib they can last quite a long time without drying out, and even once they start drying out a bit they actually become more versatile in terms of the lines they can produce. I remember back in the day when I used these all the time I reeeeally treasured the ones that were on the cusp of running out haha.

    Regarding the lineart process - you are making perfect sense to me- I'm the same way,I also sketch messy and I can't see how I could do the lineart at the end without fu*king it up,or rather how to do the shapes first without ending badly, but when I see people who do it that way,it looks really good and neat. The only way I see it possible is perhaps to do the lineart in color of each shape and afterwards go in with a dark shade (greys to blacks). But since I haven't tried it yet either,I can't guarantee it will work out 😅 Also, I really have to tell you that is refreshing to see someone talk about the typical problems of getting rusty with a medium and thank you for that, it's honest. I think anyone that does visual art is a perfectionist at heart, yet noone speaks about the struggle when you get rusty (which happens a lot even when you work a lot),everything seems so effortless,but it's not,even when it is. It really made me feel better. I was starting to think it was a problem with me,yet this video and the comments made me see it happens even when someone is a great artist (which I think you are,I really like your style).

I switched to the Sharpie pen (not a Sharpie, but it's the all black 'Sharpie Pen') and that has the proper 'grab' to the Microns that I remember.

It's very hard for me to understand lol. YESS... ugh I was sitting there thinking about it some more, and I think one of my difficulties with the shape only method is that I perceive solid shapes without an outline as malleable or something? It's also faster for me to fix a shape with a line rather than changing it and filling in the empty space or erasing it away.... hmmmm have fun with the microns!! :D

    Not always, I switch around mediums quite a lot for whatever reason. The difference is that a regular pencil erases completely, whereas a coloured pencil kinda remains - and I don't try to remove the sketch, so the finished product just looks different. Sometimes I prefer sketching with colerase because it doesn't reflect light like graphite, but this isn't really a huge concern. Just an aesthetic choice mostly
