It's so unfair that I can't get those sketchbook for the same price as people from other countries. I would have to pay 50 usd (without shipping) for a Cottonwood sketchbook. Sometimes even more ... But I loved your review, it was super helpful.

By the way, ILLO's sketchbooks aren't acid free :( so they will eventually self-destruct. But if you're going to scan/take pictures right away that won't be a problem.

hello! so I'm half way through your video and i just wanted to say thank you for being clear and straight to the point without any rambling. I've watched 7 videos similar to this and for some reason artists on youtube ramble a lot, very soft spoken which makes it tough to hear properly specially if they have background music and it seems like some purposely put on a soft sweet voice for some reason. Didn't mean to rant, just wanted to say thank you!!

If you haven't bought a Leuchtturm sketchbook until now: Don't. They quality dropped a lot. I got one with only one ribbon, they sucked so hard on the markers and in comparison to the Moleskine the paper destroyed itself, when I touched it with anything water based. :(

Ouuu I actually disagree! I own one with 2 ribbons - their thicker paper edition AND ITS AMAZING. Paper is thicker than moleskine but still super smooth. They handle everything really well! I tried gouache, watercolors, pencils, markers and inks. Alcohol markers do bleed through but not into the next page! Which is already impressive. I can never get through a single sketchbook but almost done with this one.

@@meudraws can only still hardly disagree. I had three of them over the years. And every time the paper texture was a different one. At least Moleskine is consistent. XD And 140gsm against 120gsm is not that much of a difference. If you're from Europe and look for a good and really cheap sketchbook there are the Talens Art Creation. Also funky to dig out a 2 years old comment. Nice to meet you though. 😁👍

Love my illo so much I bought some for Christmas presents. Never worked a single book cover to cover, but I'm prob 10 pages from finishing this illo. 8×8 is perfect size to me. Paper is great for watercolor, ink, copic's do bleed some but no bother. Need to order another one.

If anyone's working with markers and wondering about how the markers behave in an actual illustration in the Rendr sketchbook: I got it too because I mainly use markers in my illustrations. It really doesn't matter how much ink you put on the paper! It will not bleed through. If that sounds too good to be true that's because it is.. in my opinion at least. If you put ink on paper the ink will need space to go to. The paper won't let the ink trough to the other side so it will bleed sideways out of the lines. It's a little like coloring on printer paper... there are workarounds of course :) put the ink down slowly and stop close to the lines so the ink will fill the space between where you stopped and the lines with the bleeding. For me personally it's too much work so I mainly use regular sketchbooks and only fill the right sides but that's just personal preference :)

Leuchtturm 1917 is really common in Germany, since it's a german brand and the paper is so thin, the ghosting is still visible after like three pages, so not really good for anything but taking notes. But here it's quite hard to get the Illo sketchbooks, I think. I have never seen them anywhere yet and on the german Amazon it's not even existing XD

ohuhu 200gsm sketchbook is my go to now i will not go back, the problem with moleskin and hanemule unless you buy specific watercolour paper the normal sketchbooks are only 165gsm and thats the standard with most brands and since i do a lot of inking i didnt like using watercolour sketchbooks for ink work so after searching around i find that 180gsm-200 gsm paper is what you want to look for if most of your work is made from india ink or fountain pen Etc, its thick, minimal bleed through, no ghosting whatsoever, and its hardcover, just my preferance, not a big fan of spiral bound but you can choose between, i would highly recommend the ohuhu mixed media hardcover sketchbook, doesnt break the bank and paper is a strech better than expensive brands and they realy do cheap out on how much paper a sketchbook has with only 25-50 sheets especilay the stillman sketchbooks they are expsensive and the paper quantity is laughable for the price, this on the other hand is 96 sheets of pure bliss.

One thing that wasn't mentioned, and to be extremely nit picky because I am probably the only one who notices let alone cares, is that Moleskine is actually 8.25"x 5". I love them FOR that size. I find them to be much more sleek and nice looking. I think I had one when I was younger when I used to do a lot of journaling and I loved that book. I have been using them for years and enjoy them more for the tall thin shape slimness and I love the ivory paper. However, it doesn't take my fountain pen ink unless I am very very light handed and only go over it once. It also doesn't take masking tape in the least sticky kind. Even if you're super careful and roll it sometimes it will pick up the paper. But it takes my brush pens and India ink. I haven't even attempted to use watercolors or paint because I don't trust that the paper will hold up to it. I like to use both sides of the paper and what's the point of paying so much when you have to keep gluing them together. I will glue watercolor paper into it after painting something and I just draw in margins if I want to stay inside a certain area. I like having Mokeskine as my one set of sketchbooks in that size after I've filled them. Unfortunately the watercolor Moleskine books are in the standard size which means I tend to either buy other sizes or cut my Strathmore 500 series 100% cotton paper to size and glue it onto the page I want in my Moleskine. But yeah, I was just here to correct the size. But the video was fantastic and very helpful and I am really excited to try some of the others.
