It’s baffles me that anyone could dislike this- this is incredible
By far one of the best videos on eclipses I’ve seen. The minor axis in line with the vanishing point is the trick. Thank you!
finally someone that explained the minor and major axis, exactly what i was looking for! thank you so much!
wow! beautiful explanation! possibly the most no-nonsense straight to the point good stuff elipse talk i've seen. Struggled with getting them with everything from Loomis to Scott Robertson and I still got a bit more understanding out of this while getting super quick condensed summary of things I had known. thank you!
wow I just started industrial design drawing a few months ago and have been wondering why my lines are never straight. Your few seconds advice on the position to hold the pen made such a huge difference to my lines! Ironic because i came here to learn to draw ellipses LOL Thank u!
NIce job, Spencer! It appears you've been drawing some cars. Amazing! I love how you put in the side mirrors. I would have had to use perspective. You put them in like someone crossing t's or dotting i's in writing. Fantastic! Thanks, for the video Spencer!
thank you Spencer, you're really good at teaching, I mean I think I already learned how to draw ellipses, thank you!
Hello Spencer, your presentations that I have watched so far, are excellent!! I'm starting a course next year that involves drawing and designing furniture. I'm absolutely terrified! I don't draw. So I'll watch your presentations and hopefully improve... Thank you very much!!!!!
i saw your work 4 years ago because of a teacher in Madrid, i have looked 4 it but didnt remember the channel, now i am back in Madrid and went to see my teacher and of course, i asked him what your name and channel were. great video
Amazing thank you! So the major line is always on the diagonal line that goes that goes corner to corner?
3 fkng tutorials in 1 video !! Best channel
Man, love your work. keep doing!
Amazing! Thank you, you are an inspiration, man.
Natural media makes this true performance art. Thanks!
Thank you for doing this video, always had a hard time doing ellipses. You are very talented.👏
Good job, best video about ellipses on youtube to this date.
This is the best video about sketching ellipses that i ever seen on youtube !
I'm learning a lot with your videos Spencer. Thanks a lot.

how do you determine the angle of the ellipse? I mean how do you determine that the rear wheel in this sketch would be much narrower than the front wheel and to what degree ?
Love this. Thank you!
Thank you so much Spencer ! Best wishes from Argentina !
Thumbs up! Excellent tutorials!
Your talent is amazing! I'm your fan :D
Ótima aula!
Nice bro.. It's amazing...
Great tips! You have mentioned here (and one of the other videos) a video about transitions but I cannot seem to find it. Would you mind shooting one as this is very difficult do get right and will your tips it would be so much easier. Cheers
hey spencer nice videos. How about some motorcycle sketches where a lot of ellipses are involved and how to use those ellipse guides perfectly???
This is exactly what I was looking for. Thank you
Brilliant. Thanks so much.
My tutor at the uni are doing a shit job at teaching Thanks for all the lesson you gave on KZread!
Functional, succint and straight to the point (pun intended), unlike other bbothersome tutorials
Spencer I'll try to condense this as much as poss, about ellipses. I do product design for a hobby. I'm drawing a controller for ps4 in 2 point. When I look at the real controller holding it at an angle with the z axis at 90 degrees the ellipses are purely flat but when I try to draw it following these rules they're always at an angle. I hope this makes sense, could you maybe give a brief explanation as to what I may be doing wrong? Thank you, love the videos!!

Take a photo of the controller from that z axis at 90 deg angle, it will become obvious what the issue is. Perhaps your vanishing points are too close and that gives you some distortion?
Excellent tutorial!
GREAT video, learned so much 🌟
do you need to be good at geometry in order to be good at sketching/drawing?

Suzy McCarrell yes
What about the minor axis of ellipse in 1 pt perspective?
I continue to struggle with getting cups/vases/etc correct in application. I get the theory, but how do you draw and object in front of you? I would really appreciate if you could briefly comment --- I have a cup on a table -- do I make up a vanishing point? Most likely, I would make up a VP in the wrong location to what is physically in front of me.

Look around for straight lines that can describe your plane, they usually converge to some point, that's your VP.
Man this is awesome! Woohoo!
what does the minor axis do if you draw a wheel in 1-point? would it converge to the center vp, or would it just be perfectly horizontal?

Goes to the single vanishing point in the scene
hello spencer , great videos... can you please explain perspective in cars ..please...
thank you i was always kinda scared of elipses but now they're a bit friendlier
Oh my God, I think I got it. QUESTION!!! About the whole 8:32 part. Fantastic by the way. But I don't quite understand the part where you say "If I have a face at an angle, it's going to go to the auxilary vanishing point that's off to an angle"? (Minute 9:10) There's something about the wording that confuses me, can you think of another way of explaining the relationship between the "face on which the ellipse rests" and the vanishing point to which the axis heads? Thanks for a great video!
Excellent video and hand control. Thanks.

muy buena explicacion, muy uutil
Wait... I'm still confused. How do you know where to put major axis and minor axis into eclipses?

great video sir!
At 9:15 you said "auxillary vanishing point thats off on an angle" could you make a video about that :D ?
THANK YOUUUUUUUUU
Love these videos :) can you maybe do some pencil sketches sometime?

Spencer Nugent ah ok, urrm maybe some handles to something would be cool like an ice cream scoop or something :)
Ty for talking about the degree. I need help with that big time
Very Good 👏👏👏👏👏😊
Thank you for showing your process. I am a true beginner and I like to see that even experienced artists don't put down a perfect line the first time.
Hi, very useful. Thank you!
nice drawing Spencer..

Thanks dude
Very nice picture I have to say keep it up
thanks a lot, great vid as always!
I think i learned something
11:45 flat ellipse at eye level because 0 degree difference between line of sight and altitude of ellipse
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥💨💨💨👑
thank you for the oh back in oh deary what have you done to my house

OMG. MINOR AXIS DOES NOT GOING TO A VANISHING POINT! I learning perspective a couple of days but already noticed that. Take a look. i.imgur.com/tc2YuVX.jpg
When u in a rush trying to do td homework
Was too concentrated on his way of drawing perfect line at every moment ??
jajaja you spoke in spanish awsome
