Great review. I have the DO and GJ but want a Dakota jacket. As an outer, I feel they should’ve added pit zips, wader pockets and a removable hood.

Yes, they should also have had thumb loops.

I layer the grinder hoody, duck oven, and hudson just fine, great late late season system. For temps 0-15 degrees. Also use the neck gaiter and hudson gtx hat and stay toasty! Minnesota

So you DO fits under the Hudson pretty well? I think I need some lore insulation after my last outing lol!
@t-rex27
3 жыл бұрын
@@jeepchronicles5644 yes, my duck oven is a large while my hudson is an XL. Small disclaimer there, but I think even if I did have an XL DO, I think it would still fit great, perfect for those late season temps when it's below that 15-20 degree mark, I have used this setup in 5 degrees with 20 mph winds and my core and upper body stayed warm throughout the whole day.

@@t-rex27 sorry for the late reply, but do you wear a base layer under your grinder?
@t-rex27
2 жыл бұрын
@@dirtymotovation if I do wear anything, it's like a dri fit under shirt or plain t-shirt. I have done both ways and both work fine. Depends on how many layers I will be wearing, if I am going to do grinder, duck oven and Hudson, then no, if I am going to be doing grinder and duck oven or grinder and gradient sweatshirt/Dakota vest, then I will wear something under grinder. Try and max out at 3 layers

@@t-rex27 gotcha, im putting my system togethor and kind of struggling. Im thinking about using grinder/duck oven/ dakota hoody/ delta (only for wet weather) to get me down to the teens and if its above 20 then loose the thermal layer

Which of the two will layer better under a Hudson for warmth? Duck Oven? I have the Dakota Hoody and it’s a tad bulky. I feel like the primaloft will move better than the face material on the Dakota?
@chrismcneil55433 жыл бұрын
Man I would pull the trigger on this the duck oven right now if it had a hood, even just a snap on that I could takeoff. I want the Delta wading jacket and a duck oven, but the lack of insulated hood is a big thing for me.

What which one would layer best with the Hudson Jacket ?
@johnbalestrieri23353 жыл бұрын
Great video!!! I recently bought a gradient hoodie and a Hudson. I wore it out this weekend and it was extremely bulky and hard to shoulder my gun. I’m in Wisco it was 18 when we got out in the morning and I’m in wadders. I’m 5’7 195pounds. I also really liked the upper pockets. What do you recommend? I’m struggling here haha I’m also going to be hunting late season goose

What would you pick between a Dakota Jacket and a Dakota Hoody? I'm going to be layering under a DWJ and a Dakota vest.
@boilse

The dakota hoody doesn't layer well at all. It's stupid comfy but best as an outer piece. I'm guessing the jacket isn't much different. If you're laying for warmth, go with the fahrenheit vest, duck oven, then DWJ.

@@boilse I ended up going with the Jacket. I already have the duck oven but I wanted to get something a little lighter for down here in Texas. And I agree, about the hoody, I hate having two hoods when I am layering.

Is the Dakota similar in warmth and wind proof to the Stratus Jacket?

Nope, stratus is basically just a windproof shell has a little fleece inside but not much for insulation.

Yes you could, I have the layout and it has no insulation from the elbows down. I put a fahrenheit under mine and it works well below 32 degrees. The fahrenheit is similar to the duck oven in that they are a fitted piece meant to be used as a layer. I met a guy who wears a fahrenheit under a boreal.

Are the Wader pockets in the Duck Oven Jacket fleece lined?
@thegeorgiawild

The bottom pockets are but not the top wader pockets. They are slick like the primaloft inside. That’s my only knock on it. Warm but annoying if my hands are wet.

Duck oven all day. Easier to layer with, with its banded collar. The pullover style of the Gradient is inconvenient, cumbersome, and its hoodie makes it difficult to layer w/ hooded shells. I will say the hand warming fleece is very nice in both.
