Superb gem from Raees Khan, and precious archival video too, showing him as a very handsome artist in his 30s. His tankari was inimitable and very dextrous and swift and powerful. In the light music department, he was not equally great. But we are all grateful to see this recording of the performance of MIan Ki Malhar. We also saw a clip of him in Asian Magazine program doing a superb rendition of Tilak Kamod, cut short unceremoniously by BBC after 5 minutes. If they have the full video recording, they should put it on for all music lovers. The swift tankari in it towards the end was amazing when it was cut off for no reason. Doordarshan seems to have other archival recordings of this great Sitarist, and it would be wonderful to put them on KZread for music lovers.

Ustadji starts with the UVK/UIK Miya Ki Malhar album from the 60s template. Then adds his own unique touch. The sound is good but echo could be used less generously. One of his best recording I have heard. Lyrical/ Gayaki whatever, truly the ever prince of Sitar (pity about the advertisements in the middle which ruins the listening pleasure )

The legendary Maestro gives the power of speech to each string to sing under his fingers touch Mashallah the whole surroundings and the atmosphere gets intoxicated and mesmerised, his Laykari is outstanding when he is playing a Dhun , his voice is equally stunning when he is singing a Ghazal or a Folk song along with his magical mastery of playing Sitar , Ustad Raeis Khan was a very attractive, talented and a very humble artist of his time and is still considered unique and unparalleled, now in present times if I’m not mistaken his nephew Ustad Shujat Khan is quite popular and well on his way to become a legend I wish him our Best Wishes and my prayers for Ustad Raeis khan May Allah Subhan waThallah grant Maghfirath to his soul Aameen.

Please listen to Ut. Vilayat Khan, father of Ut. Shujaat Khan and cousin of Ut. Raees Khan. Presumably you are from Pakistan, also please listen to Pt. Budhaditya Mukherjee, Ut. Shahid Parvez, Pt. Ravi Shankar, Pt. Nikhil Banerjee. From the current generation, Rupa Panesar, Purbayan Chatterjee, Anupama Bhagwat.

Unfortunately the recording is very dark. please bring the light in recording.

Superb performance. Is that the great Shafaat Khansaheb on tabla? The camera spends 90 pct of the time on Raees Khansahebs face. Or left hand. The right hand is rarely seen. And the tabla player almost never. Worse, the hall seems plunged in darkness.
