    I'm sorry, but I prefer roundwounds on fretless Jazz Basses. That's where the grind and growl comes from.

    Of course roundwounds on a fretless work. It's just a different sound, which is the reason you may or may not do it. I've heard some great slap on fretless basses with roundwounds. Same with flatwounds, for that matter. Really is just a matter of preference.

    A lefty P style bass with a maple neck? Hell ya, sign me up! I've been waiting for my entire bass life waiting for Fender to make a maple boarded lefty P or J to no avail. Custom shop only. And fretless too? Oh my...! Going to start saving for one starting today. Thank you Sire! Did you find that playing the lefty made you use a different part of your creative brain? One of my best friends plays mine when he's over and that's what he says.

    As a leftie I've done my fair share of upside down playing. It's easier than actually playing it right handed, although slap and pop goes out the window. Really good effort though, better than my regular playing.

    The flatwounds comment makes me think you don't know much about fretless basses.. most "famous" fretless tones were created using roundwounds. Flatwounds are for a very specific kind of tone which is not even close to what most people think when they picture a fretless bass, which is long sustain, growl and "MWAH".

  • @thedondeluxe6941

    @thedondeluxe6941

    6 жыл бұрын

    You get plenty of "mwah" with flatwounds, though. Just a bit less growl! Flatwounds is after all the type of string used for uprights, otherwise known as the king of "mwah".
