I have lived in spain for 20 years, I am an old git that saw the Best, Charlton, Law geniuses many times. When Sir Bobby died recently, bar owners and rural farmers in the bars were all deeply moved by the great mans passing. None of them ever saw him live but they were all, old and young, aware of our grestest ever players skill, sportmanship and integrity. Made me proud to be English.

For the spaniards the best of all times was Alfredo Di Stefano. Period. And I think I have to agree with them” Its funny that in the interview Sir Bobby was asked: “Pelé or Maradona, who do you think was the greatest?” And the great english gentleman just answers what all the people in Spain knew without hesitation sixty or seventy years ago: the best was Di Stefano. What a all XL team or XII in this case. Modernist's will claim its a bit too old school, leaving out modern great's like Ronaldo, Zidane, Cristiano Ronaldo, Messi. • @tt99football56

True but it's hard to win, if he picked more modern players people would say he left out greats from his career etc. So many all time greats to pick, it's hard to really pick the best team & everyone would pick someone different etc. He picked this in 2001, so I can see why it's dominated mostly by players he shared a pitch with. He did another in 2007 for fourfourtwo with a few changes, but only Keane & Schmeichel of the modern era made the bench. Great team you picked to

I just thought Edwards & Best, never saw the full unfolding of their talents at what should be a great player peak years. 25 to 31. So i wouldn't have picked them, ( both fabulous players, but Edwards gone at 21 & Best fell off at 26 ), as am stickler for longevity ~ consistency, & seeing out the talents to their maximum exposure. Ps, thanks for like of my XL team.👍

@@johnpacino007 I agree but I think with Edwards especially he was just in awe of him, that he probably could never imagine a team without him in it. Also he & so many others rate Edwards next to anyone. Some videos on my channel of Edwards, we can see a glimpse of his all round ability. Because of the longevity I'd have had Maldini over him though. I like how Charlton has so much respect for Platini to, he also put him in his 2007 team. Platini doesn't often make an all time XI, but is one of the all time greats.

But sadly lost interest at age 26. Most natural gifted player ever. And bobby knows that. He said people would come from all over the place just to watch george best incase they missed something! Every where he played the ground was heaving and full up before 10am. My friend went to see best at west ham utd in 1971 and the crowd had been waiting since 7.30am to get in. Madness, but great. I have never saw a crowd que up like that before and never will. People used to try and jump over the turnstiles to get in or over any wall to see best! So they had to make the turnstiles 6ft high. I remember most grounds were just 3ft high turnstiles but just a foot high made so they kept turning round and people could jump over them or even crawl under them.

Schmeichel on the bench was the last straw for me. Bobby was obviously a United guy through and through. And with Britain having no less than 6 players in the, squad, more than any other country, imagine how many world cups they'd won had they all played for England!

We're seeing the end of brilliant footballers. Since spain and guardiola started dominating football they've little by little, eliminated individual prowess in favor of tactical compliance. Thats why modern football is so incredibly boring compared to past football. We will never see again players like cruyff, maradona, beckenbauer, di stefano, pelé, platini,. Now the best players in the world are mbappé and haaland, both good players who rarely show the imagination, skill and talent you'd expect from the best player in the world

I see what you're saying & you make a great point, but IMO Mbappe is a player like that with flair, skill & quality. A guy you could just give the ball to & watch him entertain, but maybe he has less freedom today to express himself fully.

could be,. but it just seems there arent entertainers anymore, just two guys on the sidelines, usually spaniards if you're watching the PL, who behave like circus clowns while the players are completely paralyzed by their instructions@@tt99football56

@@tt99football56 To add to that, Jude Bellingham is shaping up to be one of the greats. Perhaps it's a bit premature to put that curse on him, but barring injury (please God, don't curse him like R9) he certainly has the talent. I watched all the greats since the 60s, and only R9 was so polished at such a young age.

How so? Banks, Edwards & Best are 3 of the best to ever play, I know Edwards had a short career but others rate him as highly to. Maybe Edwards could be changed for someone with a longer career, but Best & Banks are top tier ever in their positions IMO.

@@tt99football56George best played in one European cup final. He didn't ever play in the world cup or euros. Northern Ireland have reached major tournaments with worse squads than what Best played in. I think it's nonsense personally. No maldini or Baresi. Didn't pick one Italian in fact. No Messi or Fat Ronaldo. Or Cristiano Ronaldo. No Zidane. I know you mentioned it but Duncan Edwards? That's mental. We have no idea what he would have become. I can think of loads of players with promise who did sod all.
