I was born deaf in my left ear as well :), I’m 21 years old and to this day I haven’t felt the absolute need to get treatment or surgery either. But tbh there are it’s moments which I’m sure you know what I mean. It does upset me at times tho, I wish more people knew or just understood me. I was always left out on things and people wouldn’t have patience for me. Altho, I think about how much it truly has molded me into the person I am today. I like quiet space, engaging in meaningful conversations. I’ve learn to be humbled and be thankful for what I CAN hear.

I’ve had single sided deafness since I was 5 or 6 years old. I was fitted with hearing aids by audiologists who sold me aids while not explaining I didn’t have enough hearing on my bad side for aids to benefit me. Also, the ear piece frequently gave me ear infections. Then in late 2020 when I had a hearing test the ENT told me about Cochlear’s new Osia system that the FDA (in the US) had just approved. Osia is a much improved bone anchor system with technology that’s significantly much better. 4 months later I was implanted and 6 weeks after that received my processor. After decades I can finally hear. I’m so grateful for this newest technology.

I suffered a SSNHL last year. I literally woke up deaf in my left ear after going to bed the night before with perfect hearing. Despite treatment and best efforts I never got my hearing back. I’m booked in for surgery for a Cochlear implant soon. This video played a role in helping me decide the best solution from the options I tried. I’ve watched it numerous times and really appreciate the simple and clear advice. Thank you

It's been 2 months since I had my CI switched on and can say I'm extremely glad I made the choice I did. The tinnitus I struggled so badly with is completely gone as soon as on put on my processor. The awful feeling of fullness in my deaf ear is goes away as long as I have my volume high enough. And I already have very good clarity of voice recognition from my CI. In fact at times I forget I'm wearing it and the sound seems natural. I strongly endorse a CI for single sided SSNHL and thanks again for this great video. I'm so much more positive about my hearing than I was 6 months ago and excited to see where I can get to.

I too was “waiting” for this after high frequency SSHL in March 2020, and then another SSHL in May of 2022 that knocked out the rest of my useable hearing. Those of us that have suffered sudden hearing loss as adults and have known the anxiety and isolation of constant screaming tinnitus and inability to socialize like we could before can’t wait any longer. I’m moving forward with getting a CI.

I'm 28 and I was born completely deaf in my right ear. Without background noise (groups chatting, loud music, heavy rain,) I can hear just as good as most people from all directions. But I can't tell the direction of sound and this makes me awkward and stressed out in groups. In fact, when I was about 8 I was misdiagnosed with autism because of my very poor social skills. In my private life this has very little effect on me and sometimes I even forget that I'm half deaf. But my public/work life has been severely limited because of it. All the careers I wanted to pursue In life I couldn't join including the navy/air force or working on big boats. Although, it feels unfair, it's understandable why though. Most jobs I've had I've ran into problems especially factory jobs where I'm pretty much completely deaf around machinery. Even at the Walmart deli I was surprised and bummed out that I couldn't hear the customers over the fryers behind me.

Same, but I'm 42. Anyway, I just wanted you to know that no one told me, and it took 39 years for me to figure out a simple thing that has changed my perspective on my Single Sided Deafness. I am UNABLE to listen. I actively share this with anyone I know I will interact with for some time. I am unable, just as a person in a wheelchair is unable to walk. I am defining "listen" as the ability to push down one sound and focus on another sound. Apparently, fully hearing people can do this, all the time, without thinking, and they walk around assuming everyone else can too. Because of SSD, I am at the mercy of whatever sound is the loudest. This is why I hate being interrupted. This is why I hate when someone speaks louder than the tv. This is why I have to make so many accommodations for myself, just to live an independent life. So when someone says I'm not listening, I clap back with, "Correct! I can't!"

You said it. I was a good listener in class back then and I notice my grades and interest in class always depended on where I was seated. When I got to College, it was annoying to be seated on the worst angle possible with also the light shining on the blackboard on a Mathematics related subject. Although I do sometimes request the teacher to put me in a good seat, but sometimes they often are too wary if I am hearing properly or not, and it feels awkward. Hearing from you really made me reminisce how I struggled in the past and I appreciate how you pointed out how much of a pain the experience is. I always thought to myself what I could have achieved or pursued in life if I was confident enough to at least be able to have everything in my control without any handicaps. When I was around 10 years old, I was fishing in the river and was screaming to my friend about something, then I suddenly got an awful headache. It happened around 12 noon and I skipped lunched to sleep because of how severe the headache was, when I woke up, my left ear suddenly went deaf.

Good points! I lost my hearing in my left year about 12 years ago. I've now got CROSS, but filtering sound in noisy situations is not a perfect solution. In meetings, I also try to pick the most strategically located seat, which allows ne to hear best.

I had sudden hearing loss in my right ear about 6 years ago and a little over 2 years got a cochlear implant and it def. gave me life back. I suffered not only from complete hearing loss but also from 24.7 365 tinnitus which I likened to an alien parasite living in my brain. As soon as I healed from surgery and the audiologist gave me the outer processor I was instantly relieved of the tinnitus and the road to hearing began. I've spoken in the last year to many people with SSD considering an implant and I stress the best part of it is not only can I hear significantly (though clearly not as well as I did before the hearing loss) better in noisy situations but it's being able to hear better in ALL situations and restoring sound localization.

Since birth, my right side ear has had 100% Atresia (totally blocked ear canal). My exterior side of the ear is about 15% deformed/bent. For the last 55 years, I've been hearing and doing things without feeling I'm losing my hearing. That's not the case anymore. Yesterday, I first visited the audiologist for a hearing test and then the ENT doctor. In audio testing was AMAZING! The device/speaker they attached to the back of my deaf ear, made me feel her lips were SHAKING!!! my entire deaf side!! I could hear her voice 500%-1000% stronger than my good ear!! I was hoping the ENT doctor could open my ear canal and let my natural ear does the hearing. He said there is a risk of the canal he makes for me, it may collapse on its own!! He said he needs to make me a new "ear drum"!! And that may not turn out to be good!? He also said I "still need to have some kind of hearing device" for the fixed ear. Then he pulled out a sample of the Osia 2 from his pocket that goes under my bad ear skin, with a 45-minute surgery. As an engineer myself, I was disappointed why the under the skin magnetic device could not be at least 40-50% smaller. I appreciate hearing from people who went through such a procedure and any advice they could give me. FYI, next week I'm scheduled for a 90-min consulting with the audiologist in form of letting me get a feeling about how such a device would feel and do after the surgery.

Omg this is amazing!I haven’t considered other options as nobody explained to me that there were any, other than brain surgery or just living with it.About 4 years ago I was diagnosed with a benign tumour right by my brain which messes with my audio reception on my left ear.Its been hellish trying to cope with it,especially since I started college and am meeting new people left and right (pun intended 😂).I can’t wait to talk to my doctor about it!

I am very late to this channel . I recently just lost my hearing on my right side its mild and the audiologist only suggested treatment for the tinnitus but said it was nit enouh to need a hearing aide .I also am legally blind , don't see out of my right eye at all and minimal vision on my left . Just trying to figure out what to do .I mainly rely on hearing just for travel alone and conversations have been slightly difficult . I enjoy Ballet alot so listening to music is important and I attend an adult drop in class weekly .One thing this loss has taught me is definitely even way more compassion for those who are deaf ir hard of hearing besides that I had to help my grandfather who was also hard aof hearing and studied sign language a semester at comminuty college . Thank you as always for your great videos. I suffered sudden sensorineural hearing loss in my left ear 10 years ago, when I was 40 . A hearing aid in my "severe hearing loss" ear will allow me to hear sounds; but the loss to nerves connecting to hearing brain means I cannot "understand" the sounds (i.e. just distorted sounds). Trialled various top-range CROS HAs, for months, a couple of times, over the past few years; however do not work in places with any background noise (In quiet office environment, my good right ear picks up fine anyhow, so can't notice the benefit of CROS much) As you mentioned, Cochlear Implants is now an option. However having been "deaf" in one ear for so long, one major concern is if my brain will quickly re-adapt to "understand" the electrical nerve impulses in a reasonable period of time (i.e. months, not years) given this is an invasive, destructive (i.e destroys nerves) and irreversible treatment. I am sure every case is different; however appreciate your insights based on any anecdotal patient cases & experiences to date; as well as suggestions for any other potential options? Thank you.

This is really good info. I’ve been told by audiologist I need a one side hearing aid. Then went back 6 months later and nothing was said. He had mentioned having an MRI. He said I have positive pressure in the ears. Thought there was a possibility of tumor but at second visit never said anything.

Humans have advanced so much in every other field but the only problems it could not solve perfectly is hearing. Hope someday someone will be pioneer in full recovery of hearing loss. Same as lasik treatment of eyes.

I suffered sudden hearing loss 20 years ago. The audiologist fitted me with a HA in my good ear at that time, but I soon gave it up as it really did nothing to help my hearing overall. So I’ve been living with just the one ear since, and I’ve adjusted fairly well. But now my good ear has some hearing loss, and I’m casting about for a hearing solution again. CROS is one technology I’m going to consider, though it may prove more costly than it’s worth at this point in my life. (Retired, 78 y.o.) And, it may also not solve my greatest hearing problem - hearing and understanding speech in noisy environments. This issue is very frustrating and has had big detrimental impact on my social life.

My one ear went silent about two years ago. My audiologist never mentioned this to me. I just found out about it from my brother in law. I'm going to an appointment this afternoon. about this. I dont' know what it entails, but my understanding is they range from $2000 up to $5000. Hoping the lowest cost will do the job. GLAD THIS EXISTS!

i'm deaf from my left ear, some times i think about how much i'm lucky to be only deaf from one ear and not in both of them, but is very frustating when like i'm wearing an Headset and i try to experience spatial audio in a game, but obviously i can't. this also affect my in-game skills, because i cannot locate a noise from where it comes from so i die like a noob very often lmao

I was diagnosed with Meniere's Disease a few years ago and have 80% hearing loss in one year. I was told by my ENT a traditional hearing aid would not work for me, but that the Baha would be a good option. I was given a "test" unit to try, which basically held the device against the head with a soft band instead of having the surgery. I went out to eat and to the Mall and was immediately sold, but my insurance wouldn't cover the costs. We never discussed Cochlear Implant on the bad hearing side, but your video got me thinking. I'm about to go back and have my hearing retested after 3 years. If the Baha test seemed to work ok, do you think the Cochlear implant would be a reasonable thing to consider (not sure how you would identify a good candidate). I'm in the U.S. so I don't know how common it is to do Cochlear implants here, but I'm also wondering does cochlear implant allow you hear the sound as though its actually coming from the right direction? Meaning instead of sending the signal to the other ear, does it essentially sound like it's coming from the direction it actually came from?

I'm in the same boat. I'm about to try a Cros hearing aid as the most conservative treatment. As far as surgery, my doctor explained a cochlear implant is the only way to rehabilitate the hearing on your bad side. A BAHA, just like a Cros hearing aid, just sends the sound over to your good side.

I remember being 10 and telling my parents I noticed I could hear much more with my right ear. I thought it was normal my whole life but aparently not. they freaked out sent me to 2 experts and both said the same, I had like 15% on one ear and 80 on the other. This was on 2002 and the doctor said it was a tiny bone that had to be replaced/fixed and that it would cost 20,000$. 🤣🤣🤣🤣 we left the clinic and 20 years later I’m still half deaf. I don’t love it but I like sleeping on the side, and not hearing anything. It’s like wearing earplugs to sleep. Also In school I could sleep in class easily by laying one side on my arm. I would love to remember what was my diagnostic. Till this day I don’t remember 🤣🤣🥺

so glad i found this as my mind has been doing overtime with worry,my hearing was affected 7 years ago after i had surgery and follow up treatment for squamous cell carcinoma of the tongue and neck,the radio/chemo done the damage but recently i lost all of my hearing suddenly in my right ear ,i am currently getting steoid injections to see if that can recoup some of the lost hearing , and i was wondering what the options were if that does not work ,amazed at what is available ,thank you

I’m loosing the hearing in one ear due to a Vestibular Shwannoma. Currently stereo hearing with headphones is very satisfying as the brain translates the information. The hearing from the bad ear alone sounds like an unknown foreing language. Will still miss it when it’s gone.

I recently went pretty much deaf in my right ear but I could have easily died several times during my youth so I'm lucky to just be alive.or there was a reason for all these things.

I’m deaf on the left side since I’m born and I am grateful that at least my right ear is normal and I don’t feel the need to get a surgery to treat my left ear because mostly I don’t feel that this effect me that much 😁

@@abbyortiz8804 you might tell his teachers and coaches if he plays sports. Sometimes they'll assume they've been ignored. Otherwise I wouldn't worry too much about it. Tell him to be grateful for his good ear. We all have challenges. This is just one of his, but it's a minor one.

I have single sided deafness in my left ear and high and low frequency hearing loss in my right year. I've been told for years that no hearing aid would help because of my unique hearing loss in my right ear. I tried to wear a Resound hearing aid in the 90s but it only picked up background noise so I end up quit wearing it. Do you think I would be a good candidate?

Hearing aids have changed dramatically since the 90's and are much better able to deal with high frequency hearing loss. So I would urge you to at least try a modern BiCros solution after speaking to an audiologist.

and we feel shy to share this information. for getting selected in good company it is really hard. I am doing security and feel so low when i have to say to repeat everything . sometimes i cry on my diaability

I was diagnosed with acoustic neuroma few years ago. Doctors removed the tumor, but it was too risky to save the hearing. I now have permanent hearing loss in one ear. It can be very frustrating not being able to have full hearing capacity. After 10 hours of surgery and having my skull drilled and opened, I am petrified of having anything going near my skull again, so BAHA will probably not be a good option for me. I hope someday there’ll be better hearing aid that would be simple to use

This is exactly what CROS fittings are designed for. It is completely reversible should you not like it. I recommend you give it a try for yourself.

I underwent the surgery for acoustic neuroma two years ago. It amazes me how many people think I am choosing not to here or think there is something wrong with me for not wearing a hearing aide. My surgeon told me I wasn't eligible for a hearing aide so I didn't look for one. I should find an audiologist that can give me one of the options listed in this video.

I had an acoustic neuroma removed at age 27, for over 30 years I did not realise there was a solution to the hearing loss.I live in the UK and was never told of any treatment.Luckily by chance I met someone who had private insurance and they had cros aids fitted.I asked my local gap who referred me to hospital.I was then given the option of Baha’i,and like you did not want further head surgery,so choose cros aid.They are perfect,appart from the deaf ear side battery only lasts one day,no Bluetooth either,this has since become available,but have got used to them so much I would not change them unless they were broken.Hope you sort something out.

Best when a day sleeper!

I’ve single sided deafness! I lost hearing in my right ear a couple of months ago. Currently looking at the options to either go with BAHA or cochlear implant. Would you recommend any doctor or Surgeon in Australia that expertise in cochlear implant?

I went deaf in my left ear when I was 11 (~14 yrs ago), and had a shunt put in for vertigo (I was diagnosed with Meniere's disease and I do not know if that was correct). I was also injected with Gentamicin and a steroid at the beginning. Do any of those operations preclude being treated with a Cochlear implant or the Baha? Thank you very much for this video!

Would a mic also work? Particularly the resound key with mic?

I have 100% hearing in one ear and mild to moderate loss in the other. I've tried multiple brands and issues I've experienced is delay in the sound processing and distorted sound compared to what I hear naturally in the good ear. Is there any brands you can recommend? Thanks

Thought this was starting to happen just to find out i just had a bad experience with a piar of bluetooth earbuds, tested this with my plug-in headset and both sounded the same glad i wasn't going deaf

Such a shame that i bought a hearing aid that cost almost 2000 Canadian for my non-hearing ear and i wore them for almost 2 years until i realize that it is simply not working for me. The hearing aid works per se, I can hear music, voices and background noise when i cover my good ear and only use the one with the hearing aid, but for some reason my brain never adapted to it, i still feel like i cannot hear and i am still reliant on my good ear, even my audiologist told me that sometimes it do happen. Hopefully in the future there will be another form of hearing device that will work for me.

Hi Carl, I am sorry you've had a less than optimal outcome. A CROS device might be a better option for you. Depending on the model of the hearing aid it might be able to reconfigure that device for your better ear and match it with a CROS microphone on your non-hearing ear.

I had a CROS hearing aid, and I absolutely hated it. It actually amplified my hearing problems in some situations and did not make a difference in others. Sound was still confusing in situations with background noise, like a restaurant--it was just louder. I could not hear people who were behind my ear, like if I was sitting at a table looking away from the person talking to me. And, because I'm in the USA, I had to pay $3K for equipment that did not help. If you have some hearing in both ears, it might be different, but for my situation, it was money wasted. FYI: I became 100% deaf in my right ear because of an injury. Bone-conduction hearing aids were not an option.

Madam, what about options in mild loss in one ear that too in low frequency. Audiologist told me that aid may not solve issue since I have good hearing in one ear, what to do madam I am 32 yrs it happened last month only. So much tensed and dont know what to do. I was on leave for this one month can I join back office and resume my job?. Can I live a normal life. I can hear higher frequency sounds in my bad ear only cant pick up sounds in background sounds. And paying more concentration to hear everything. Pls replay how I can move forward. I even thought of ending my self.......

Hello im deaf in one ear since birth and il be trying out this cross hearing aid in about a week, im so excited people really don't know the struggle and alot of people probably think i ignore them hahah. The sad part is i dont have insurance and if i ended up wanting to buy them its going to cost me 3600$ hahah RIP

My 4 months old baby is diagnosed with unilateral deafness. Her left ear is profound they said. While her right ear is very good. Does she need the cochlear implant or she can live normally with one ear hearing only? Pls help. I’m so devastated and don’t know which way we should go. We live in Japan btw and they’re not aggressive here as the US. They just want to wait until she’s 3 years old and see if she can follow sounds and speech and language therapy starts from there too. I need advices pls. Thank you!

Hello, I live in California, I have a 4-year-old son who also has deep unilateral hearing loss in his right ear, my recommendation is not to wait and ask your audiologist for cochlear implant already, now we are in the implantation process but the audiologists already tell me that he is delayed because it is advisable to implant before the age of 3, how my son has never heard with his right ear if brain may not be able to understand the words, before implantation was not allowed in children under 5 years old with deep unilateral loss but my ENT doctor said that 6 months ago the FDA approved to operate on children I think 1 year old, do not wait any longer, for the sake of your child.

Hey, I don't know from where and when I don't hear from my right ear .. last year i realized i can't hear from my right ear cz i didn't know about this.. just few weeks ago i got a checkup and they put me a headphone like db type system and heard for the 1st time in my left ear with that headphone.. the db was really high on that headphone cz of.... They suggest me to take Myelin 30 tablets ... I got like 7 tablets and i think its a working at all and its so bad... I don't know what to do now...plf Response if possible 😣

16 years old and born deaf in left ear. I went to the audiologist, and he just conducted this whole audio test and concluded that I'm completely deaf in my left ear and nothing can be done about it??? I also have this thing in my right ear where I can change the volume of my hearing. It's weird and a bit hard to explain, but it's like if I flex my jaw I hear a clicky sound and the volume gets higher (louder) and I inhale really hard through my nose and it gets lower???? I haven't consulted an ent about it because I haven't the chance, but I did kind of search about it and found nothing so uh yeah ig. Though this ability doesn't really help much in making up for the loss of hearing in my left ear.

Thank you for this video, I suffered a sudden violent pop in my ears and I been completely deaf in my left ear except for a loud ringing after the pop. It's been 5 days since and I am trying to get into to see a doctor but looks like I waited to long to save my hearing. I know it was linked to circulatory issues because I just had a massive blood clot in my leg and while I was in E.R. it broke and a chunk went to my lung saddle. I'm sure it was something related to high blood pressure and blockage in my arteries. I hope I don't have to live the rest of my life like this, I'm only 44 Ugh...

@@lakshayyadav8140 unfortunately I am completely deaf in my left ear still. The treatment of the 4 shots through my ear drum did not work. The tinittus is still there also. I am a musician and this has really had a negative impact in my life. I wish I had my hearing back 😥

One of my students has a Widex cross. They don't offer an FM system. How do you feel about this Cros in an educational setting? Student is at a 60 dB loss on her deaf side.

What about years away from hearing loss? like decades, I tried a Cros back in 80's it was too much sound for me, and I could not discern different sounds with it.

Accordiing to my experience CROS system is not a good option: the head shadow effect is lowered but there is much more noise in the valid ear

It's certainly not for everyone, depending on your needs. If you last trialled a CROS option a few years ago, it may be worthwhile revisiting again with the improvements in technology.

All our focus and energy should go on that, to restore full and natural hearing abilities, instead of CROS, BAHA, or cochlear implants, that are just substitute, and may prevent someone to benefit from hair cells regeneration in the future (it's the case for the cochlear implant).

I had sudden hearing loss in 2019. On one side. I’ve had a cochlear implant for 2 years and it’s still robotic..I know I was slack training my Brian cos the Kanso2 was hurting my scalp . So I wouldn’t wear it everyday. I’m trialling the N7 now

I m 23 , recently I realised,my right year is not receiving slow sound . And after 2 years I got tinitus in that ear. I consulted to ENT in CMC Vellore. The doctor said your bone is not working, we can put artificial bone but , it might work or may not , so I didn't took the treatment. Now I m adepted to tinitus but I sometimes I feel pain in that ear 😢

Went deaf in my left ear in December 2022 and just got my hearing aid a couple days ago and I don’t think it really helps. I have a lot of tinnitus that seems to fluctuate throughout the day and with more or less physical activity. I’m 27 and it happened overnight. I was actually getting used to hearing out of only the one and it hasn’t really stopped me from doing anything. I’ve had a tough time in restaurants and stuff like that but I just deal with it. I think I’m going to return it and just live with it. My only question is will my hearing in my good ear degrade faster if I’m only listening through it? I’m a pressure systems welder boilermaker working in heavy industrial settings but wear all proper hearing protection

From a young age I had hearing problems in my left ear. even though people were whispering to me, I couldn't hear them. But what makes me confused is that eventho I just cover my right ear but it's feel like I'm covering both my ears (you must know what I mean right). So the question here is do I have single sided deafness? Can you please help me😭😭

I have the same issue and yes - it's the single-sided deafness definitely. You need to visit an audiologist to have your hearing on both ears examined.

If someone with sshl in one ear decides to have a cochlear implant and the procedure is successful… will the sound I hear in the implant side sound mechanical.? Or will the good ear interpret the sound as the good ear would normally?

I just recently had a consultation w an ENT in a large research hospital who told me the sound received by the implant will be robotic or mechanical sounding and you must receive auditory training to learn to listen thru it. It takes the brain 6 months or so but he told me that once your brain integrates it, people w the cochlear implant are usually pleased. I suddenly lost my hearing upon waking up after a nap about 2 months ago. I fear going thru all that surgery to implant the devise into your head and what if you hate it?!

does SSD cause tinnitus? For as long as I can remember I've had ringing sound in my right ear, since I'm deaf on my left ear I've always thought it was the sound of silence but no it was f**king tinnitus. so does being deaf on one ear triggers tinnitus?

Sorry to hear that. John. It would really depend on the severity of the hearing loss and how much damage the SSD caused to the inner ear hair cells. For music, I currently to prefer Oticon Real or Widex Moment. They just seem to work better and more consistently for music enjoyment. However, even though you may benefit from a hearing aid, you may still find there's potentially some distortion due to the inner ear damage. If there is no usable hearing in the left ear, you may be better off with a CROS system, in which case, sounds from the left ear will be picked up and transmitted to the right ear which ill do all the hearing for you.

I'm 21 years old and I cant hear in my right ear 😔😔

Considering that this excellent video is most likely watched by people with hearing impairments, might it not be a great idea to include subtitles? Sadly, this is the sort of systematic short sightedness I personally encounter from "health professionals" who speak hurriedly in a low voice.

Hi,you can have subtitles on here on top right next to those 3 lines press that symbol next to them & subtitles will come on, l can't do without them. Hope this helps

I lost all hearing in one ear in 2005 due to cholesteatoma and my other ear is fine. These days I put the people I wish to listen to on my left and the bores on the right 😁 I would love stereo hearing again but as we know that's not possible. If I thought people regularly had anything super valuable to say, I would spend £3,000 on CROS hearing aids but actually I enjoy exploiting selective deafness as I can avoid the numbnuts in life.

I have a BAHA but I take it off and use the deafness in my left ear, as I always have, as a way of getting to sleep in noisy environments. But would I pay half my fortune to have normal hearing in my left ear? YES.

my son has Down syndrome , 20-years old. and Single sided deafness. He is not good at describing what would work best. I am willing to pay for a consultation with "you' to get your thoughts on the benefits and features of both the Med-EL Adhear versus the CROS for me to make an informed decision to help my son to start with the best probable device first . How can get the best comparison to make a decision. I live in Sarasota Florida.

Something funny, I play Skyrim quite a lot, and often I'll have to turn my in-game head towards them if they are on my right. It is honestly is quite strange.

It would be nice if an airpod on the bad side could transmit sound to an airpod on the good side.

Wouldn't that be great! It wouldn't be surprising if this type of technology becomes available over the coming years, possibly from Sennheiser or Jabra first, being sister companies with hearing aid manufacturers.

Hi Sumbul, definitely go and see an audiologist for a full diagnostic assessment, and ask them for guidance on what your options are. You may actually have some residual hearing in your right ear, it would be good to find out for sure.

I have partial deafness,, profound hearing loss on right ears.. so frustrating.. a lot embarrassing moment

I have had SSD since age 4 and am now 70. (Cause: mumps. Get your kids vaccinated for God's sake!) 8 years ago I had a BAHA post implanted, but I am not here in US considered a candidate for cochlear implant. I for one have found the BAHA unsatisfactory, and am currently planning to try CROS anyway.

So a cochlear implant isn't of any use for those born with SSD? I only assume I was born with SSD as it wasn't picked up until I was around the age of 6, I can hear fine in the other ear but for the best part of 5 years now I picked up tinnitus in that good ear.

I have moderate SSD on my right ear (AN ruled out as cause, but probably trauma or sensory neurological). Left ear is completely fine. I've been trialing a Signia Pure Go 7AX on the good ear and it's great in quiet situations, but I may as well not bother when I'm in a background noise/music atmosphere...plus, the feature of being able to adjust the angle/location of where the hearing aid focuses speech amplificationI doesn't work unless you have TWO hearing aids (confirmed by a Signia rep to my audiologist). I don't want to lose more hearing in my bad ear over time, but I just want to be able to hear what people are saying properly! 😞 It sounds like a CROS doesn't help to amplify or retain any hearing that you might have in the bad ear...? I'm in Australia too

@flipsyde84 well I gave back the Signia at the end of the trial and am waiting for a new model from GN. Looking them up, it appears they have a few sub-companies under them. The one I was recommended was basically the same as the Signia in shape/size etc, but the phone app looks WAY more customisable which I liked. My Audiologist recommended ordering in a mic (roughly size of a USB thumb drive) to trial with the aid. The mic can be put on myself if I'm talking 1:1, or on someone else/middle of a table etc if it's busier. I am excited again (after my slight doom spiral following the failed Signia trial lol). I'm currently waiting for it all to arrive so I can start the trial. I can circle back and update you though :)

@@adinamaree is that the GN resound? I have trialled so many devices, I struggle with delay in the aid a lot also sound quality. I'm currently trialling a widex device but it isn't without it's faults lol. I'd be interested in seeing how you go, thanks for getting back to me :)

@flipsyde84 yeah resound, that's the one! My audiologist mob just changed over to them from Signia so in the process, I'll get to try a new brand. Delay didn't seem to be detectable when I had the aid in during my second consult (the resound aid, I mean), but it may vary in different environments maybe, I don't know. No worries 👍🏻 😊

I had sudden sensory hearing loss about 3 years ago, the cross hearing aid is not it sadly. the idea sounds great to someone with two ears but I have not had success with the cross or other hearing aids. My ear is fully dead on my left side, the input into my right ear is so overwhelming its not sustainable. science and technology has not evolved enough whatsoever.

I have left ear SSHL. I bought cross hearings. Did not help At All. Too bad.

BiCros doesn't work. I was fitted with a high end Phonak BiCros. I tested it in a restaurant, but when the waitress approached and spoke from my deaf side, I couldn't make out what she was saying. When I asked about that I was told that, unfortunately, I did have to turn to face her in order to hear. So I returned the device and got my thousands of dollars back.

Does this mean that SSD adults who've lost their hearing since childhood can't get benefit of the cochlear implant??

Yes you can. I believe the FDA has recently approved it for people with single sided deafness. However, you might want to look into something less radical like what I received. Cochlear has a new system called an Osia-2 which I was implanted with 2 years ago after being deaf on my right side since age 5 or 6. It’s a relatively simple surgical procedure and it’s been life changing. Since the FDA has approved it, it’s covered by most insurance plans. Please reach out if you have more questions.

Good luck! Cochlear implants can work brilliantly if you're a suitable candidate.

i am from Pakistan. i am also cant hear from my left ear. so difficult to survive with one ear .i am like psyco confused personality in school,college and university life and confidence level is 0 . my fucking deafness made me this pitiful person. i cant do job after my mba coz i m deaf, last yeare i go to audiologist but they say ur one ear is completely normal so u cant use hearing aid .but i also feel pain from my good ear when i listening something and i just talk on call for 1 or 2 minuts only if i talk more than 2 minuts then i feel pain from my good ear for an hour .and i cant use hand free. my life is just pitiful .now i am going to a ENT specielist.ALLAH HELP ME

Hello, I m from India. My 7 year old son have complete deaf in his left ear but he has good hearing in his Right ear. I consulted Audiologist and they said and tried hearing aid but bcoz of complete deaf in left ear cross didn't work bcoz he did not catch the sound 120 db. So any suggestion can you give what can we do? He is good in sports. is it beneficial to go with BAHA or cochlear? Is it affect his sports activities after BAHA or cochlear implant? I would get a second opinion if you are not happy with the first opinion. A CROS fitting works with a dead ear, so maybe the clinician did not have this technology available. Cochlear or BAHA might also be options to explore depending on the specific case. All these devices can be temporarily removed if he participates in contact or water sports.

Sorry to hear that. I would start by either seeing your doctor to check that it's not something simple like wax build up in the ear, or book to see an audiologist for a hearing screening - they can check for wax and check your hearing at the same time. At the very least, that would give you some answers. Good luck.

@@littlebitnew I lost my hearing on my left on June 21, 2021 and it's been really tough too. I've been slowly getting out in public because I can't live in my house forever. We've got a long road ahead but I'm trying to deal with it one step at a time. I trial CROS next week but to be honest, I've not heard good things about it. I'm on the same roller coaster!

We went to the ENT today for my teenager daughter and she has been severe/profound in her left side her right is normal it happened out of the blue 5 years ago and they recommend to do Osia but not sure she choose to do this. Anyone try this Osia? Big hugs to you all

I have an implant and my facts are from the implant center. A cochlear implant helps but in no way does it restore, replace or even emulate real hearing. 1 st problem. Even if you have a cochlear implant and you sit in a restoraunt you wont really hear more with the implant because it picks up all the noise around and it also sounds really bad. Those two conditions together make it hard to hear in restorant for most people with an implant. And tgroups.here's no way a cochlear implant helps in large groups. Implants are for deaf people. There's a whole movement, stop the cochear madness! 2 nd problem, pubs?! Forget it. Forget any place with many people being noisy. When you get an implant you have to take lip reading lessons as part of rehabilitation, just because it's clear you won't hear in many situations despite. 3-Cros, bicros same thing, it did not help me at all. It just picks "up pollution" and makes what you hear even more complicated to dicipher. It would be nice to get honest answers sometimes, instead of sugar coating everything. All these items, somewhat help, but they are not all solving solutions that are fun, cheap or easy to get used to or enjoy.
