    Over a year ago I signed up for a trial of the Phonac Paradise Bi Cross. I was sitting in a somewhat noisy restaurant when the server approached on my deaf side. I could not make out what she was saying. I was told afterwards that I would have needed to turn and face her. We’ll, that’s what I’ve been doing without a hearing aid. I got my money back (and it wasn’t easy) and if I have to hang a remote mike on anyone talking to my deaf ear, I’ll save my money. I had been sold on the Phonak Paradise by the phony claims of it being able to automatically detect where the relevant voice was coming from and focus on that voice.

    @@DrCliffAuD My audiologist told me the same thing. He said that because the microphone on the hearing aid points forward, you don't get the full speech processing effect unless you face the person you want to hear. Was he wrong?

    Thanks for explaining “binaural squelch.” As a fairly recent SSD sufferer I’ve missed it greatly and have always wondered what the proper term for it was. In my experience it’s analogous to being able to focus with your eyes to pick out the one thing you want to see clearly. I didn’t realize your ears could do a similar thing until I lost my hearing in one of them. Binaural squelch is what lets you have a conversation with the person across the table from you while everyone else at the table is talking.

    Curious if anyone has fiddled with the new Phonak update? Supposed to have Cros P compatibility, but my aud states it still doesn’t give the user control to adjust the settings of the cros transmitter…. I have MD in my good ear, so this feature is important.

    Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Sometimes I feel as though we SSD people are discarded by the hearing industry. I don't think they understand how difficult it is when completely deaf in one ear. Many seem to think yelling at us is the solution. It's not that we can't hear noise, we just can't hear wear it's coming from and sometimes, the clarity of what someone is saying. I really wish Phonak would keep up with improvements to CROS/BICROS the way they keep up with their traditional hearing aids. Often times, we're stuck with older platforms for years before a new CROS/BICROS rolls out. Question--of the additional accessories, which do you think would be better for going out to parties/dinner where background noise is the problem? I really don't like the idea of asking a single person to wear a mic. So, would the Rodger or the table top unit (don't remember the name of it. Has a round shape) be better. My thinking is the Rodger "pen" type in case we're all standing around rather than sitting. I'm telling you--being completely deaf in one ear is a pain in the ars--especially when people start talking really loud at you believing this is the solution (when in reality, it's so annoying to the better ear). At times I feel as though I hear better with no aids. Other times, they're helpful. Ugh. Again, thanks for including SSD.

    Ah that's the table mic you're referring to but phonak Roger mics are optional I mean you don't necessarily need them but if I had to pic I'd go with the table mic or if you want a more discrete option I'd go with the partner mic they usually have a neck loop so you can wear them the choice is entirely up to you though

    You are so right -- Judging by the available solutions, SSD sufferers are second-class customers to hearing aid makers. No doubt because the population with SSD is only a small slice of the hearing aid market.

    Like others have said, thank you for doing this video for SSD people. It ls very helpful to learn the terms that describe our hearing experience. I want to get a Cros hearing aid, but it is disappointing to read one of the comments that says that Cros aids are not using current technology and lack features. Can you recommend the most technologically advanced Cros made today?

  • @Sun18Jul

    @Sun18Jul

    In my research I found that it's not that CROS lacks features (which it does, but it basically works), it's that CROS is only available with the top-of-the-line models. And most of the fancy features of those models aren't supported for CROS, so you're paying for technology you won't be using.

    I currently have a bicros set by signia. I recently had to take them in for repair and was 2 weeks without my hearing aids oh gosh it was aweful. My question is. I have a Resound hearing aid for my right side deafness that I don't use since I got the bicros set. Is it possible to buy a bicros for the deaf ear that would connect to the Resound? I hope my question makes sense. I want a back up set for situations like when I took my set in for repair
