Single Serving Breakfast - I Can Unbox Anything #2
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
A week or so ago, I unboxed a pack of assorted wet wipes - in one of the comments, someone asked when I would review condiments - so I set about gathering a collection of single-serving packs.
The collection is way too big already to review in one video, so here's the first instalment - breakfast!
In this video, breakfast items which I bought at www.sachetsandmore.com/ (not affiliated)
In future videos, we'll be looking at the dips, sauces and other condiments - some of which were sourced from the above store, others from eBay, and yet more from restaurants and cafes that I happened to visit.

This is somewhat surreal in terms of my spending half an hour watching someone eat little pots of jam that I’m already familiar with, but also utterly relaxing?? Atomic shrimp has definitely become my go to chill out channel.
I wasn't serious when I said you should do condiments, although I can't say that I wasn't intrigued either, bravo you got me to watch a pair of hands eat little packets of jam and what not.

My last care home used to portion everything at breakfast time - powdered milk on a tiny bowl of cereal - gross - more so when they don’t put enough milk in the water - or too much water in the milk - they put marge and marmalade in little cups normally used for the dispensing of medication - we could have either, but not both, cereal or toast - but at least they allowed us to have both marge and marmalade on toast - unlike my auntie - Either butter - or jam! Not both! (didn’t have marmalade!).

What is Marmite? Marmite is an immense serving of glorious, savoury flavour in a tiny package. Marmite is umami for your face, fermented goodness that should be partaken in a respectably small portion. (Tasting notes also apply to Vegemite, Promite, Cenovis, and other yeast extracts.)
I live near the French border and go to a French supermarket regularly. They sell a variety of Bonne Mamam jams there with less sugar and they are soooo good. I love them not only on bread, but also on cheese cake and waffles
I love that "Bridge of Transaction" shirt lol
The only time I've seen someone drink coffee, tea, hot cocoa, and condiments in one breakfast. What a role model you are. : p

Interesting factoid, blackcurrant is not permitted to be grown in the US because it is an alternate host for a disease of white pine called white pine blister rust. It's a fatal disease and ruins timber yields, ergo no blackcurrant for us. 😟
@AtomicShrimp

It's interesting that the US doesn't import blackcurrant concentrate for confectionery purposes (presumably that could be sterilised to be fee of the disease) - I mean, mangoes don't grow here in the UK, but I can get mango flavoured sweets

Interestingly raspberries used to be so expensive there was a huge practice of adulterating jam to pad it out, there was even an industry to make fake wooden pits to put in it to convince customers it was real raspberry!
I can watch anything I want aswell… This content when I am bored... or eating dinner.
Great tip about adding some crystallised honey to runny honey - I’ll try that. Last year I picked loads of young elderflower heads and left till all bugs had crawled off, shook them a bit, snipped off stalks and stuffed them into a jar of honey. I left it to infuse for a couple of months then strained into a fresh jar. Added a strip of unwaxed lemon peel. Do try - it’s easy and wonderfully floral. Nice memory of early summer at Christmas time.
Biting into toast and crunching sound is most comfortable. Thank you.
0:34 - Skip ahead or click away if you're bored I don't think you understand what your fans are here to watch. I for one enjoy this sort of thing when I'm bored 3:02 As for how to fairly compare condiments, I just think whichever one goes best with what their intended to be with. e.g. which ketchup tastes best with these whatever you feel like putting ketchup on, and which ones have a pleasant texture

I am pretty sure somebody said it already (and acutely aware that I am pretty late) but the salt in the chocolate powder is probably for flavour enhancement and maybe to help preserve it since it absorbs moisture.

American and I get so excited when I find black currant flavored stuff here. It’s rare, and usually I see it as a blueberry/black currant mix(delicious). Got to try it a several years ago and truly considered moving to the UK. lol

Ruined the hot chocolate immediately. You should put chocolate first, then add a small amount of water, stir until it becomes a paste, then keep adding to from paste to thick and runny, then runny, then top up for hot chocolate. It keeps from having lumps or half of it sticking to the bottom.

12:57 Or if you're Australian, you might have already tried Vegemite, which I hear is quite similar to Marmite; never personally tried the latter. Vegemite and Marmite is like Coke and Pepsi, I think - two very similar products with a few slightly-noticeable differences.

seeing that jam sat beside the dips is really urking me
Where did u get that little pot of branston from it's brilliant!
Great vid love your diversity.
Now I want toast.
Okay, I have this weird thing; many people in my family have it., and that is strange, itself, given that at least a dozen people would eat together, every night, in my parent's house (they had 17 kids..) I cannot stand to hear people eat. You did pretty well. Then the toast became hard and dry, and I could stand the sound, no more. Other than that; cheers. Keep at it. Oh, and i did like that your shirt (cannot think what it's called, back in the day..) basically matched your table-cover, as did the packet colors match, too. Funny. I'll keep watching. I just need to stay away from breakfast trials..
"probably enough in there for 4 slices of toast" y-you mean 4 slices of toast and marmite isn't the standard serving? whoops.
Could cope with the cold toast, but the ‘hot’ drinks..no way. Have to be piping hot. And you can keep the marmite and Nutella! 🇦🇺🇦🇺

Watching and judging all the wasteful packaging....aaaand Mr. Shrimp is right on cue to address wasteful packaging 😅
Compostable plastic, paper, and wax would be better for the little packets

When will you eat fried butter and join my fatty American scooter riding people?
A little salt in the cocoa, a little sugar with cooked carrots or tomatoes... brings out the flavour.
I'm surprised that you've never noticed that thing about Nutella before and how it seems to be 'drier' when it comes in small packs like that. Anyone who was a kid in the 90s should be able to tell you that Nutella is always better out of a jar, it's just common knowledge for our generation. Nobody ever really came up with an answer as to why, though.
Everything is not okay
I’m one of the few Americans who didn’t cringe at the taste of marmite when I first tried it. Like you said if you like really savory and salty things then chances are you may like marmite. It has a similar taste to soy sauce and smells like beef bouillon. It adds a great meaty flavor to vegetarian and vegan dishes and I would imagine that it enhances the umami factor of dishes with meat.

I’ve heard of bovril, it sounds good. I typically just spread it on toast with butter too, never disappoints. My friend actually just gave me a jar an hour ago because I was saying how I love the stuff when I saw a jar in his fridge. He thought I was crazy for wanting to put it on buttered toast because he uses it in soups and stuff 😂
i worked at a hotel and the honey would go crystallised when it was getting old
I would test the rest on chicken nuggets or French fries... potato chips/crisps would work.
Apart from the fact you are eating condiments and making it a rather quality video content- -those are a lot of toasts. 😂 I know how Englishman really loves to eat many things with toast, but I might've been underestimating it until I saw your plate there. I do eat toast- though at most I can only take 3 at once. 😂
UK- South wales here, have you ever thought of the possibility of a starter or use of yeast in marmite for bread/dough? Never seen it done, but logic states it should work, yeast, with salts and sugars? Maybe the reduced salt version of the marmite might bloom?
@AtomicShrimp

There's no live yeast in Marmite. The extraction process involves cooking it very thoroughly.

Sort of ordered the tea, coffee, milk and sugar by accident. I intended only to be reviewing sauces, but it all got out of control
'If you like Soy Sauce, You might like Marmite' Japanese people in general love soy sauce and Umami flavours... yet most will act like you've tortured them if you have them taste Marmite. Then again, I suspect they may come to love it if given time to develop a taste for it
@AtomicShrimp
3 жыл бұрын
At first I thought that was weird, but having seen documentaries on the traditional method of brewing soy sauce as well as a lot of other things about Japanese food prep, it seems like there is a pretty strong sense of doing things in a very precise and specific way running through Japanese food culture, so I suppose it makes sense that something that is _just a little off to one side_ (as Marmite is to soy sauce) might be less easy to accept than something that is completely alien

My first boarding school used to offer us honey or marmalade on toast - then they turned into a glorified health farm - took both honey and marmalade off the menu and replaced them with a rather gross-looking substance that resembled (to us) chip pan fat with brown sugar in it - I was assured that it was honey - however, nobody liked it - but that wasn’t enough to make them stop serving it - the school was in the Cotswolds and the so-called honey was said to be Cotswold honey - if that’s Cotswold honey, the Cotswolds can keep it! Looked similar to that crystallised stuff in the video, but worse!
