Sardine Corn Cakes - Recipe
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
Here's a really simple, but delicious recipe for corn-based fishcakes, with flavours inspired by tapas I enjoyed on trips to southern Spain.
If you don't like sardines, you could substitute some pieces of chorizo, cooked chicken or shrimp

Whenever I'm in a bad place I just binge watch this man. There's a calming notion to not just his voice (I'm not weird I promise) but his ability to be in touch with reality and his care with everything he does. Really refreshing. Love the foraging videos and all the cooking videos and just how diverse he is as a content creator. Everything is kept simple. No flashy editing. I'm a massive fan, Mr Atomic Shrimp. I don't think I'm the only person his videos help either.

Same. I struggle with anxiety and have felt quite on edge again recently. These videos calm me.
Make an x cut on bottom of tomatoes before blanch. Makes skin slip right off....
Brilliant. I used to make corn cakes with salted cod (Bacalao). However, I would add baking powder to leaven the corn flour and make them just a little less dense. I will be making these as a breakfast tomorrow morning. I have a large can of sardines in tomato sauce, and will feed at least four. My daughter will take the leftovers to share with her workmates (if they pass muster). I'm going to add some garlic and parsley, as well. Again, brilliant. I have a tough time finding salt cod these days!
I made these tonight, they were really nice. I shall make them a regular supper dish now I’ve found this recipe.

Thanks for telling us that you enjoyed them as well. Now I am definitly going to make them... Aaaas soon as I can find sardines in my tiny, isolated hometown. Probably going to need to order some online.

Our local dollar stores all carry sardines in tomato sauce
After watching this a few months ago I just want to say how helpful that little tip about putting the tomatoes in boiling water is. I can't believe how well it works!
I made these here in the Philippines - and they were lovely. Thank you!
Didn't have bacon or sardines, went with some fatty ham and canned salmon. Definitely denser and different but still delicious. Made a roasted tomatillo salsa verde and knocked it out of the park. Great recipe, thanks for the inspiration and I can't wait to try it the proper way next time.
That looked so yummy
Shrimp-“You don’t need to watch me cut up salad” Me - “ummmm …. Yes we do !” Could watch and listen to this man for hours.
if you roll a lemon on its side squeezing it as you roll it will release double the juice, works on pretty much all citrus fruits. limes from pakistan (little balls which taste somewhere between a lemon and a lime) make amazing salsas and vinaigrettes too, well worth looking out for

If you put it in the microwave for 3 seconds it's even better
Dont take this the wrong way...I binge watch all the videos while I'm sleeping. I've had a difficult time sleeping and this guy, voice is perfect.
Looks really 👍. I love your unfussy recipes!
This looks delicious! My mom makes salmon patties with canned salmon and crackers. This is just different enough to peak my interest.
I had a can of tuna in tomato sauce and put together patties and. salsa with toast. Sooo delicious- thanks for inspiring me
you blow me away with your knowledge, thank you for the vids subscribed
Would you be able to do the stuffed crust pizza one again? I've tried it with leftover meatballs and sauce stuffed crust, try doing that. Going to definately try this recipe though.
Hi, yummy that looked so good ☺. Thanks.
You brighten anything, any day
I like watching your videos, I know i will probably never cook what you cook ,but watching this calms me down so much :) wish you best of luck and keep it up!
For my new born I just put atomic shrimp videos on and his videos put him to sleep everytime...very soothing voice
Thank you, I am going to give these a try.
Interesting recipe might try this myself 😋
This looks really tasty
This looks great
Now that is something I will try tomorrow . Maybe I will add some shrimp in the mix 🙂
Looks delicious.
love me some sardines, would probably work well with canned mackarel too
Sardines are one of the great delicacies of life, as well as tinned kippers, smoked oysters and mussels. Open the cans, squirt a bit of lemon, and eat. ambrosia.
That sardine can would be perfect for the Softworks can opener... I love mine
that seems lovely af
Looks really tasty
I keep thinking about using corn flour more. Well it's ready steady cook for dinner tonight 😋 Thanks for the videos.
Thanks for this recipe bro im gonna add fresh corn yumm
Kind of reminds me of salmon patties! I love me some salmon patties!
I agree with taking the spines out. I find It gives the sardines a slightly chalky or gritty texture.
Looks good man!!!
you should put a tea towel undet your cutting board.. it would help it from shifting around.
This is really good ! I like sardines but afraid my imagination stops at sardines on toast.
you coud flower the Spines and shallow fry them For crunchy a Crunchy topping
This looks good. Please tell me, is that sort of red pepper hot like a Chilli Pepper or like a normal red pepper? My insides are a bit sensitive. I cannot have onion but can add a little Garlic infused oil & lots of Parsley instead. Your recipe looks yummy to me. Thankyou for showing us. I used to make tuna fish cakes with sweetcorn & All Bran cereal, sounds a bit odd I know but actually they were very good.

@@EC2019 Yea, that's right. Tend to be premium priced (at least here in the UK)
Could you use chic pea flour instead of corn I assume that would work? Thanks for the video.
👍👌👌👏👏👏👏👏
Yet again I can smell delicious content. Do you think these could be made with ordinary flour?
@AtomicShrimp

Hmmm - I would probably use cracker crumbs or something - I think regular wheat flour would just make weird bouncy dumplings
Could you make some more Tapas recipes, please?
I wonder if you could do something similar with chickpea flour?
What a good idea. You could do the same with a tin of pilchards too. They have more meat on them than sardines. Cheap and healthy; what more could you want?
@Ray.Norrish
3 жыл бұрын
They are interchangeably the same thing, just bigger (the names overlap continuously throughout the world). I think that there was a marketing effort in the UK to rename local pilchards to sardines at one point because the "pilchard" name isn't as sellable.
Chorizo would make a good bacon alternative
I'm not a fan of bacon, can I replace it with something else? Looks delicious btw!
Did you use a regular red pepper or a hot spicy one?
@AtomicShrimp
3 жыл бұрын
This was a sweet red pepper, but it would also be nice with hot peppers in it
If you put bacon into a cold pan and then turn the heat on, fat renders out of the bacon and then you could throw everything else in
like number 420 haha jokes aside pls scrape never with the sharp knife side ofer the cutting boardit weakens the blade and could get you non edible parts into the food and i hope you didnt throw away the Peel
"a bit of red pepper" [takes a pepper as big as a water bottle] "use half of it"
You could have formed the fish cakes into quenelles using two spoons.
Basically, you're making salmon patties with sardines!
Why do you call it “streaky” bacon, are there other kinds of bacon (other than fake)?
@AtomicShrimp
3 жыл бұрын
Yes. There is back bacon and middle bacon
Olive oil in the dark bottle, is far better than the one sold in a clear bottle.
@AlisonBryen

The olive oil in the clear bottle is fine for cooking and frying with.
I read Corn Flakes, and I thought; "Well that sounds disgusting"
Staring at that measuring cup filled with boiling water right on the edge while you're chopping things up gave me so much anxiety
Love the recipe but scraping everything with a fork is painful on the ears x
If I see you in Spain cooking that I would think that you are a tourist.

@AtomicShrimp

Sure. Maybe use a pinch of smoked paprika for the smoky flavour
Cross contamination Bacon in the cutting board
nope too fancy lol
That tomato salsa is cross contaminated with bacon
So essentially you just ate raw bacon off the cutting board....

My wife makes these but without the red pepper (which she detests), the bacon or the toe-mar-toes. She uses mackerel and calls them "salmon patties." :)

I just scrub the board in bleach and dish suds in hot water. Then I wash it again in clean soapy water. Scrub and wash and sanitize, and you'll be fine. If there's deep cuts in the board, of course I wouldn't do this, bit scrubbing with a kitchen scrubber in bleach water should be fine.
As a chef its painful watching you use a knife lol!!
