I've never been so affected by an artist, until I heard Hua Hua. Language means nothing, if you understand. It's a level that touches every human emotion, for every language and culture. I started watching The Singer because of Dimash who is spectacular. I decided to watch the next season because all the singers who sang with Dimash were so good. I saw Hua Hua and instantly found a new singer who captivated my mind and heart. He is so good and when you listen to his interviews, he has such emotion and feeling for people and life. It’s amazing and heartening. It’s what we all need in this time.

I watched singer 2018 for J, and I'm so happy that I found this talented young man in this show. Hua Chenyu is a quite unique artist. He's the first singer that doesn't care the results but just wanted to express his self growth through the performances on this stage. If you could react from EP4 that would be a great experience to see how a singer shows his rendition talent and versatile styles thoroughly.

he once said human's voice is just another type of instrument, when he was composing songs, for certain emotions he just couldn't find any instrument as good as human voice, that's where he will put voice in, just like any other instruments but a better one. His voice is only for expressing emotions, not for showing off skills.

You guys really hit the nail on the head. How he doesn't 'take over' the song, etc. Here's some extra info that I think you'll find interesting, as your comments are completely on point! This is one very famous song in China for its beautiful and inspiring melody and lyrics. The songwriter is well-known for quite a no. of his works which have been covered by many artist. However Hua Hua has made this song to its fullest, it makes me wanna cry and feel deep.

Music is universal language. Hua said even music alone (without lyrics) still can make people feel the message of the song. He gave some examples like "cancer" and the "lyric-less song". The "lyric-less song" even got 2 versions. 😅 Cmiiw.

he sings like these lyrics are really personal and he went through everything the lyrics are saying and it means a ton to him. Amazing performance. I'll be honest, i've watched a good number of his lives on various shows before and while he's a good singer, I always had a bad feeling about him, like he's very showy and goes overboard at the song's expense just to show what he's capable of (100% subjective XD) but in this performance he showed maturity and it didn't give me that feeling at all and made me see him in a different light. I heard the original a ton of times and love it a lot but somehow I feel HCY's version elevates it even more in some way I'm not able to explain well. The original (still awesome!!) even comes off a little flat in comparison, like a soul succumbed to mundaneness while HCY's version sounds like someone who went through failures and found rekindled passion in life.

What amazed me most is not just his versatile vocals but his freaking amazing talent in songwriting, composing and arranging!! So many good singers out there, but such a prodigy is rare in the world. He’s a perfectionist works hard in every detail and sticks to his attitude and philosophy towards music and life. That’s why you see even the background music is awesome!!! I really admire his music sensitivity. I feel he puts all his soul into music everytime I listen to him. With Hua Chenyu, you have alot of choice 2013 TV Show Superboy where he was a candidate and his first apparence on TV, he did win the competition 2016-2017 TV Show the Next (Sound of War) where he was a mentor he has to sing song from others, but have to rearrange it in 24 hours to sound completly different 2018 TV Show Singer 2018 Plus you have his concerts he done over the years. About the show The Next Some of the song he did were not so good like My Skate Shoes (it was a crapy song), but when he rearrange the music the result blows everyone.

Love your reaction and critique of Hua Chenyu. Love that you really get his music and what he's trying to convey. His philosophy/view of the relationship between singing (person's vocals) and music is that music is primary and singing is secondary. He believes the voice is there to work for the music composition, not the other way around. I highly recommend the last song he sang in The Singer 2018 competition EP13 " Scream" or "Shout" ( depending on who translated the title)...just from the title I know you will love it. He rocks the house down with this one. I share your sentiments. I'm not usually into pop idols, but what makes him stand out is his humility and sincerity in doing his music. I often feel people of his status at that age often try to do a lot of things, but mainly to prove themselves. They often try different things, just for the sake of bringing something new, again to prove themselves. HCY does it for himself. Anyway, I think that was one of the best rendition of the song, and the rearrangement is all so fitting. The whole song is more or less about someone who's been there done that, and finally realises the simple way is the path for them. The way he holds his mic up and have that group of people doing a sort of hymn, it's like him surrendering power to the people. Him being the singer, the main voice is supposed to be him, but he surrenders the voice to the people, in a way they represent the lay people who aren't singers, and let them be a part of the music. It's rather poetic interpretation of a simple path, in the context of being a singer, a performer.

Btw, all his background vocals was re-composed and recorded guiding by him directly (original songs won’t have it). Once in his interview he said he used his life to do music, and he mentioned that vocal is only part of the music and he want to use his music to lead and change the Chinese to this new music world., So he may not be the best vocalist but he definitely is a great young musician with magnificent originality and creativity! Hey guys, I know you would like to watch something special, so I highly recommend Hua’s “Idiot” which he used classical texture to rearrange this 17 years old song. The origin is a theme song for movie “Happy Funeral” sang by Faye Wong, which is full of scorn, irony of the temporalities, from the musical aspect it is relatively progressive by compromising electronic elements, trip hop beats and erhu (a Chinese traditional instrument), which is a masterpiece and hard to rearrange. And yes, it isn’t classical at all. However, Hua rearranged it to help the contestant to shake off the shadow of Faye Wong who has special singing identities, and I do suggest you to compare the origin and Hua’s work, you will see how talented he is. BTW, in this performance he sang subsidiary parts (the new melody he composed to make up a polyphony texture) to support the contestant.
