A high-tech fish farm off Singapore's coast has come up with innovative methods to produce cleaner, healthier seafood. Using advanced technology like ozone machines and simulating ocean conditions, the farm achieves higher yields without antibiotics. Its founder Leow Ban Tat aims to expand his fish and farm technology, contributing to Singapore's food security goals.

It's important to note that the initial CAPEX may seem high, but it's a necessary investment to build a system that can operate in salt water for a sustained period of time. This system is designed to work for decades, just like an oil rig system. The long-term ROI of this project makes economic sense. This is not just a concept, but a proven technology. Once the filtration concept is refined, it can be moved onshore. Larger scale captive fish farms can be built on land adjacent to the sea, and seawater can be piped into those facilities for filtration, making the operation even more cost-effective. In addition, Singapore has been building and testing floating platform technology for decades, and their floating stage for national day events, which can withstand immense weight has been afloat for decades. Therefore, if Singapore combines their proven floating platform and fish farm technology, they could essentially build a food production island that is anchored to the seabed within their maritime borders. Potentially a multi-story integrated husbandry, fish farm, and vegetables farm can be build offshore, if those floating island can be enhanced to support additional weight.

It's a tough reality that fishing has become unsustainable due to the rapidly growing human population, the impact of climate change, and the increasing temperature of sea water. It's time we accept that relying on large-scale fish farms is the only way to give fish in the wild a chance to recover their numbers. As a species, we have only one planet to survive on, and it's our responsibility to ensure that future generations get to witness the beauty of these aquatic creatures. Although setting up high-tech fish farms might seem expensive at first, we must remember that economics of scale will come into play, and prices will eventually drop. It's a small price to pay for the well-being of our planet and its inhabitants.

@@jetli740Isn't that the point of this rig ? The guy literally explained that he used ballast point filtration to treat water's quality, the rig also simulate water current to make the fish swim, so that concern is a moot point because these fishes are under controlled environment. Also, the way this rig is designed seem to scale vertically, meaning it is more space efficient than traditional farm, and less subjective to the change in environment that could potentially harm the entire fish stocks, so 20x times does seems plausible. The only concern here is that this farm could end up like the nuclear power - extremely efficient but take decades to start generating profits. I can imagine it would take 10x more initial investment to build these kinds of farms, and the cost of maintaining them since now you also need a team of tech specialists to monitor the rig's operation.

Farthermore to let bred fish into the ocean. Still fish is expensive food which quite easily could be affordable to everybody. ( Besides if there were more and better restrictions on how to catch fish (i.e. by rod instead of nets) Few small fishing societies not companies with ships which decide about selling prices; to have it more like sharing than selling/buying. )
