Fellow sim-racer and ex-Oculus Link dev here (among other things, worked on the Link image and tracking fidelity, OculusMirror tool - specifically the stabilization feature used here). Love seeing folks appreciate the nuts & bolts of the tech and the end-to-end fidelity. So much has to go right to make the final experience feel smooth and Quest 3 really is the pinnacle of that.

I went from quest 2, to psvr2 in GT7, to iracing on the quest 2 again. I then upgraded to a quest 3 and could never ever go back. The lenses make such a massive difference both visually and for comfort

Hi, what graphics card do you have currently? Do you really feel the difference between quest 2 vs 3? Thanks in advance !!!! 🙏
Please do a video on how to optimise VR. It’s just too confusing for me and do not have any idea what I need to do to get max frame rate while maintaining visual fidelity
I remember when you were doing the DK1 and DK2 videos, I cant believe its been 10 years. Cheers!
I’m also on the Quest 3 hype train. Really like it!
I remember the screen door effect on those early versions. VR is getting insane! Love it. He is right! Those pancake lenses are a game changer!
Thankyou so much, GamerMuscle. As I have been hanging on with dear life to my original Rift, due to nothing else seemingly being better that was under $1.000 AU. I have also been put off with the latest VR headsets going stand-alone, and I also wish META had an option for a displayport version for not just Racing Sims, but Flight Sims as well. So really looking forward to that indepth settings video your thinking of doing --- as I don't think I have the skills needed to work it all out on my own. Which was another reason I was hesitant to get the Quest 3, due to the "compression complaints" I was hearing when the Q3 first came out?
Good video, Recently picked one up. You sum it up well. The settings video would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks for the video information about the Quest 3 and will be getting one soon . I have 3 older tethered VR headsets and like/use the Rift S right now because of the VR headset having a wider sweet spot. I have also watched your video on setup of the Quest 3 with using the LINK cable. Thank you for that video. Enjoy your videos, take care.
Cool. I’m on the scout for a new VR set. My Rift v2 is already 2 years EOL. I really want to go back to VR simracing. Looking forward to your more in depth review.
great info and entertaining, thank you.
3:00 to 3:05 ...the next accessory you could ask for is an integrated wig with a cable-ponytail and forget headstrap!!! Spot on review anyway
Used your affiliate link to buy the USB cable, great cable. Getting 2.7Gbps and maintaining a full charge. Thanks!
Nice! Got a DD1, 4080 Super, decent CPU and assorted goodies. I bought a Quest 3 for my wife and I'm suddenly feeling like a little VR time is in order. Enjoyed your impressions and looking forward to this long holiday weekend that's for sure.
i just got into sim racing (AC, ACC and AM2) and tragically bought the HTC Vive Elite XR to see what it’s like for sim racing and it has put me off all forms of VR. After seeing so many positive reviews, i’m eagerly waiting my quest 3 to get delivered. better be good and thanks for the video.

@@stikupartist3698 yes i do but i only use it for PCVR and not interested in the oculus apps from their store which are for standalone mode. it takes some serious technical knowledge to configure steamvr, oculus debug tool, oculus tray tool, oculus app, Virtual Desktop and a lot of trial and error to see what works best between bitrate, wifi 7 vs cable, in game graphics settings, Nvidia Control Panel etc. when it works it’s good, its no where near the quality of my OLED 4K 120hz display I have on my desk, good enough purely because it’s one of the cheapest option out there. i often find myself having to change settings between games and due to some misconfiguration (because i don’t really know what i’m doing), i just either get a blurry mess or awful pixelation or severe lag even using a decent wifi 7 router on 6Ghz band dedicated for Quest 3. I know it’s me not the product but still, not the most user friendly when there are multiple transcoder to pick from and bunch of software for tweaking. Can’t blame Meta for this as there isn’t a standard VR implementation right now. if you are patient and willing to invest time setting it up perfectly, yes the immersion alone is worth it The quest 3 is so much more comfortable with an aftermarket strap compared to the HTC Vive Elite. the next one i will try to get is the Bigscren Beyond or wait for the Quest Pro 2. VR takes a second off my lap time in iracing and it’s because i’m not distracted with things going on around me compared to using a large screen. for less than a $1000, i think the MQ3 is worth it a try but this is still early days. I definitely learnt a lot along my PCVR simracing journey, end game is to learn a track corner by corner and actually go drive on these track for real. ACC’s new Nordschleife is so good, i really feel a sense of speed and danger just with a Q3, fanatic DD and a rig.
You want to try the Tykki Dirt 2 Rally X track in AMS 2 in VR. That track with a 4090 in a thunderstorm is just mental. My favorite experience in VR by far but you need a high end rig to run it.
Awesome video. How are you able to record such smooth vr capture? Are you stabilizing the screen somehow? My captures are super wobbly and not a pleasant output for viewers.
I've been on the quest 3 since launch and it's excellent.

Thanks for the video. What confort headstrap are you using (link)?
This looks really good, be very helpful if you let us know your settings both external and in-game? Also, did you use via Oculus VR or SteamVR?
It’s a great all round headset and for sim racing it’s great. It falls apart visually in any of the rally games but everything else it’s decent. I still prefer using my DisplayPort headsets for sim racing and I use quest 3 with Virtual Desktop for games like half life, vertigo 2, boneworks etc.
Yes the quest3 and open wheel cars are bliss especially using a formula sim rig 😊
I got the Q3 in October and couldn't be happier. It's a massive upgrade over the Q2 for me. Using the Kiwi Design Comfort Head Strap which works really well, but I just got wireless PCVR to work well and smooth (new router) so I'm seriously eyeing the brand new BoboVR S3 halo head strap with the updated battery. Not too happy with the default thin fabric-based facial interface but it works well enough with the Kiwi strap. BTW, it already has spacer built in for glasses, if you missed that detail. Just use the small buttons at the sides of the interface. With a BoboVR halo head strap you can use the headset without the facial interface if that's a wish.

Franken Quest with a DAS is a treat.
Now, I think you need to do a setup video for the Quest 3 and AC1 🙂
I really wish the VF tec worked for me. But I get motion sickness with the PSVR2 on GT7 and I tried everything to make it work. The triple monitor setup is all I have at the moment. I really hope they can get the VR with higher frame rate next time around. For me the PSVR2 is not 4 k like the TV. It seems a little on the 1080p side. It’s super cool tho. Good video mate!
Myself used my Quest 2 vividly for 21 months. As I read the Quest 3 apart from higher res do have 10° extra FOV compared to my Quest 2, right? But now altso installed tripple 3x 32" curved screen. And the FOV - when in RACING mode when it really counts - is still much better. Here it could really be a blast with a 210° FOV VR headset! This even though I lack a bit of peeker vision myself, at least compared to Mr. Gosling speaking his natural eye FOV is 210° and most ppl do have >200°. Nota bene: Think my own natural eye FOV is maybe at max 170°, and still this day have a bad feeling thinking I shouldn't have had acquired my drivers license back in 1990. However, plenty real world gokart wins and a single seater real world win and plenty rental race car track day experiences, besides buy cars just to get out from A and don't really care about B, but more the driver experience, I think my body driver muscles can obide from my visual lacks anyway 😅 Thanks for the analysis, now my wife have scorched the household economics with kitchen and house project, so think I'll have to wait for a Quest 4 somewhere in 2027 or so... NB2: Why a HDMI cable? You know of superhigh fidelity GigaSpeed USB-c cables with angled twist in one end? Just have to be aware of how internal wire cables are wired up, there are videos of Thunderbolt HDMI cables and the same goes for USB-c cables, it doesn't even have to be super expensive. I myself acquired a 10Gpbs 5 meter USB-c cable for DKK 400 (must be round €50), works splendid.
Im looking into buying one! Thanks! What are your pc specs??
Try wifi streaming with Virtual Desktop. Image quality with a capable wifi router is even a lot better than with link cable 😊
Hi can you tell me what pc specs are and are you using a link cable and virtual desktop, or are you using steam vr, regards and can you tell me how you connect to headset
When doing the cable settings video, could you share also the settings u use in for example iracing and oculusdebug? I am surprised i can run iracing now with solid 90 fps, 40 cars grid and almost every setting on high (yes with a 4090 gpu). In car everything looks great but i need to tweak a bit more for the outside, it still looks to sharp somehow. So curious what you are using/running :)
On a Quest 2 now but likely upgrade later this year. However, VR requires tinkering and knowledge of tuning everything to get it right. Sometimes it’s just easier to go flat screen. I do 5% VR and 95% flat personally. I guess I’m lazy but sometimes it’s a hassle. Eye strain, cable or air link, Oculus app on PC not reliable, WiFi shared with the family so choppy or compression sometimes, etc.
I love my Q3.... Big hug to all 2k pimax owners 😂
whats the input lag/ latency using the link cable for simracing on the quest 3 compared to the valve index/ normal average monitor for example?
I'm in the market for vr for only sim racing, is the quest 3 better than the pico link 3 2 in 1 which has the display port cable that plugs into the headset into the GFX card? When I say better I mean just for sim racing nothing else.
Zuck really nailed that one, I was resistant to get a non-hdmi headsince, since I only use it for sim racing, but the next comparable one was double the price lol

I would like to see asettings guide to this. I got a good pc and quest 3 but for some reason I cant get the resolution clear. When i play other pcvr games the resolution is so much better than in AC and I have no idea why.
At the end when you took the head set off, you could just double tapped the side of the Quest with your fingers and gone to pass through.

120hz? Did you fix it?
I love my quest 3 but i have issues with frame drops with the link cable. In most games where you're not moving through an environment so quickly its not really noticeable but in driving sims its something I have yet to find the remedy for. So I still use my older headset with a proper display port for my sim rig. Shame cause the lenses on the quest 3 are far superior to Fresnel lenses. But I need that perfect frame-time stability or else I get distracted while racing.
I use Q3 with wifi (5G) via steam link and it's so smooth in every game (DR2, ATS, AMS2, PCARS2, upscaled ACC, ...) except AC for some reason (missing frames every second, smooth the rest of the time). Wondering if AC is just bad with steam link or it's another problem with my setup. Could you try wireless too with steam link/virtual desktop? I personally really like the freedom of wireless play and am not willing to get a cable. Update: it wasn't steam link as expected. After disabling/enabling various CSP options, it was weather fx for me (sol script) that I have to tune/disable.
For someone who have never experienced PCVR before, Quest 3 is a good entry point for me in terms of price. It is a pain to setup, there is no doubts about it. Different PC games prefer different encoder... Some runs best on Oculus Link, some only runs in steamVR and some people use Virtual Desktop. Personally, I stick to the Oculus and SteamVR and sometimes, use OpenComposite to get more out of the visuals and performance. After 2 months of mucking around with the quest 3, I can get a few racing sims run with at an acceptable performance and level of visual - namely iRacing , F1 22, Automobilista 2 and Assetto Corsa Competizione (ACC took me a long time to figure the best settings in Oculus Debug Tool and in-game graphics setting). Another game I like playing of late is Le Mans Ultimate but I cant get it to work (pixelated mess), F1 23 does work using SteamVR but F1 22 runs and look a lot better. Be prepared for a serious visual downgrade compared to playing on a monitor. At a hardware level, aside from the lense, I wish I knew the spec to look in a VR headset is "resolution per eye". I speculate the problem is with bandwidth. When I use a 4K display over HDMI2.1, the cable bandwith theoretically tops out 48Gbps, for the Quest 3 using a oculus usb c cable, I only get 3Gbps as even though I have USB C 20Gbps ports. I think the VR encoders have to compress 48 to 3Gbit of data, that's a lot of compression and no wonder I keep complaining about the visuals. Someone, please correct me as I want to learn more about this. Right now, until these headset supports native 4K per eye with no compression, and game devs actually invest in optimising for VR, I will stick with the Quest 3. Rather than paying a crazy amount for a proper highend 8K/10K VR headset, I might as well get a Samsung g9 57 inch curved monitor for my sim racing rig and call it quits. Sure, I will lose the immersion offered by the Quest 3 but there are just too many variables to deal with for PCVR gaming.
100% vr simracer here too :) But with Pico 4, just as good :)
wow, i have been putting off getting a new headset. I love VR but i really don't like my current VR headset "Quest2" I was thinking i would have the same problems with the Quest3 but you totally sold me on it. I felt something was strange, my first vr headset was WMR Samsung Odyssey. I had to get a new headset "Quest2" because i had that loud static burst from WMR after wearing it for a minute. Went to the quest 2 and something was off, i did not feel as immersed, hard to explain but you nailed it. Have you heard of Valve Prism? I might buy a Quest3 today if i knew what the field of view was on the new headset from Valve. Anyways thanks a bunch for your video on this. i had a windows mixed reality which i returned showed a glimpse of what could come ,but had terrible battery life on the controllers.the quest 3 controllers compared with 1 AA last for weeks and are so compact. there are so many positives ... but for me personally to much complication in the whole setup process ... when they make the whole interface/use less cluttered more people will jump onboard,[smartphones pro that point] still am enjoying all the halflife VR versions ... especially HL2

It will blow your mind, but make sure you have really powerfull pc and it's not plug and play you always need to tweak for performance.
Hi I just got the quest 3 a day ago and the link cable too you suggested. I was also starting with the DK2 then CV1 after that Rift S and now quest 3. Well I don`t know why but I can see those artifacts due to compression. (when I look into the distance, road, trees drawn with crayons kind of effect ) How can I eliminate those the best. Can I lose them completely? My brother has the quest 2 and long ago when I had a test with that those artifacts were the main reason I did stay with the Rift S. I play modded Assetto Corsa and Automobilista 2 mainly. Any settings I need to check? asus b450-f, Ryzen 5 3600, AMD RX 6950 XT, 16 GB 3200mhz. I tried air link too and link cable. do I need to buy a WIFI 6e for Virtual desktop to work? Any help would be much appreciated.

After many hours of reading various forums and other sources I got it dialed in. Then today I watched your great video about the settings of the quest 3 connected via link cable....🙂 I got it spot on...Thank you
It's a shame they didn't make a PC version of the Q3. No standalone, no flashy passthrough. Just the lenses and a DP connection.

Hi, yesterday the 120hz update has been launched for the Quest 3 also with slightly increased 1.7 resolution. I tried running my normal 90hz settings incl. debug tool not chaning a thing, but increase the 120hz on Oculus app. While I can get steady 120hz during a test drive in iRacing it doesnt run smooth during a race on a RTX 3090. Are you revisiting your settings and make a new video now that 120hz is out `?

I have a rtx 3090 and am going to get the quest 3. any tips on settings? Use vive pro with lens mod now
WRC 23 is, due to its current lack of VR support, the only sim I tolerate not using my HMD with. The immersion with VR is so good, it even mitigates the FFB in ACC, believe it or not. 🙂 I've had the DK2, the Pimax 4K, the Rift S, Quest 2 and now Quest 3. And yes, once you got the settings for Oculus Link dialed in properly, it's an outstanding headset, especially given its price range. Hint: If you don't own one, try to get a Vive Deluxe Audio Strap and "Franken Quest 3" adapters. It's comfy af and the headphones are really, really good.

I thought the EUVR injector works really well with WRC 23? might be worth trying out.

@@BKHD605 to be honest I havn't tried yet, and I'm a bit afraid of entering a rabbit hole of tweaks until I have it running to my likings. Also, my monitor is a 32:9 ultrawide, so playing in pancake mode is not thaaat bad and will do until the official VR support works.

@@Davids6994 actually I'd rather wait with VR until they sorted out all performance issues
Once you experience a Varjo Aero its tough to go to anything else though Varjo has discontinued this headset unfortunately. The Aero is SHARP!

@@GamerMuscleVideos +1 for user experience and that’s about it from a sim racing standpoint. I can never get a satisfyingly clear and smooth VR experience with Quest 3 as I do with an Aero out the box and should be since there is a considerable gap in technology and price between the two and Quest 3 is a non-native pc-vr device.
I wish they make a stripped down pc only version of this for half price with a direct input like HDMI or DisplayPort. It would be a perfect headset for sim racing.
Which track and car is that in AC?
The first time I tried VR was on the last expo in Maastricht. Pretty funny it was actually mr Gamermuscle himself that stood behind me when i was driving in that setup from O-Rogue. You remember that guy that took of the headset and said hey it’s Gamermuscle? 😂. I was so blown away by that experience that I’m saving up for that Qubic motion system. Do you think just VR will do the trick for now or isn’t it the same experience?

Lol 😅 You can do cheaper motion that feels as good than qbic , DK2 sigma intagrali is good even if you just have 2 or 3 points motion , it's about 2500-3500 I think. I'm not to fussed with motion , VR and tactile transducers feel awesome for immersion to be honest and not expensive compared to full motion.

@@GamerMuscleVideos that’s good to hear. Thanks for answering!
I have a PSVR2 which I like and is technically a better headset, but these pancake lenses are fantastic and it's more comfortable (throw the included headstrap in the bin) and I'm using this headset a ton for driving. It's very fun.

I feel like a proper dirty tramp after stating I'd never give money to Meta but I got sick of waiting for Valves Deckard. The convenience of the Q3 paired with a decent head strap with battery (Kiwi Design gives me over 3 hours wirelessly) + Steam link with a good router in the same room or a KKCOBVR A2 to cable link AND charge at the same time is so so great. I was a Pimax owner and their moto was "Only got an hour? Spend it on trying to get things working" so this was a breath of fresh air (I can imagine it was the same for the Index)
Does INIU Link Cable charge at 18w as well data at the same time?

Yah , you have to plug the cable into the power supply first before plugging it into PC. But it charged Quest 3 , from 15% back to 100 whilst I was playing. I was using quest 3 wall plug as as well
Another compare request to the G2. I don't mind the small sweet spot of the G2 as the quality is great. But I am considering an upgrade, the Varjo Aero is something I was considering but do you not rate it? The res is quite a jump and my fear is a catastrophic loss of FPS compared the the G2.

Varjo are stopping support in 2025 I think of aero. I'd imagine as a company they are moving focus to high end PC VR for business. I have noticed lots of varjo aero fans are starting to gravitate to quest 3 despite the lack of HDMI. Varjo aero is to heavy and cumbersome for my taste , personally prefer quest 3. Aero integrated eye tracking can make sense for lots of professional sim training and business application though.

As a G2 owner, I personally only have eyes on either the bigscreen beyond, or wait for the Somnium VR1.. although much more expensive than originally stated and it still being in development the Somnium could bring a whole new experience for sim racers/ flight simmers. It certainly ticks all the boxes on paper, just the price of it that's concerning and the fact its not finished being made yet lol
Yes only drive in vr now psvr 2 my go to it's good enough for me
Yeah please make another video, not gonna buy before you doo!!
