Simplifying Complex Fractions: Please read description

If you have a fraction in the numerator or denominator of your fraction, then you have a complex fraction. I show you how to simplify complex fractions in this video.
In my 4th example I leave an x off the end of my answer. It should be (y+x)/(4y+3x)
Check out www.ProfRobBob.com, there you will find my lessons organized by class/subject and then by topics within each class. Thank you. I often think my longer videos may turn people off...but this is how I teach:) These videos are also not an original idea any more. So hopefully I am filling a niche that will continue to help me build my own audience. I only wish a student had given me this idea sooner:) I am glad you like them so much. I hope you do great in your studies and please help me by spreading the word about my new math channel!

    Thanks for sharing! About 5 months ago I decided to drop nursing school in order to pursue intensive study of mathematics. It's been an exciting journey thus far, especially after spending time to familiarize myself with the history of mathematics (it really makes learning mathematics 100times more interesting, especially what plato had to say). I'm stoked for the epic adventure ahead, i'm just grateful that there are helpful videos out like yours to make the process of self-directed learning that much easier. Thank you again for your videos, greatly appreciated!

    in the second exemple, how could you have multiplied just one of the two fraction (top and botton by 3)on the numerator and same on the denominator, while not 1/3 and 1/6 ? I mean isn't this unbalancing the fraction?

  • @profrobbob

    @profrobbob

    6 жыл бұрын

    3 over 3, or 3/3 is equal to 1. Multiplying by 1 does not change the value of a number or fraction. I am just making the first fraction look different to have common denominators so I can add/subtract, and not changing its value.

  • @sharonjuniorchess
    @sharonjuniorchess4 жыл бұрын

    @13:40 you dropped the x off your 3x. The lower line should read: (4x+3x)(y-x). When you cancel out the (y-x)'s you are left with the result: (y+x)/(4y+3x). Great teaching though. I bet your written answer was correct you just missed the x after the 3 cos you were looking for the (y-x) cancellation.
