    Professor RobBob, thank you for another great video/lecture on Factoring Polynomials Differences of Squares. In Mathematics pattern recognition is a method that student should use to solve all types of problems in Math and Science. There is always a pattern in Factoring, whether its by difference of squares, by grouping or trial and error.

    you explain better than my teacher! at the class, i just keep on yawning, really! sleepiness strikes! i don't understand what she's talking about....so i always end up with zero in my quizzes..which makes me feel so bad..i then concluded that i maybe dull when it comes to mathematics...

    thank you for your help. I have a question: for the last problem my result is different I got 4xy instead of - 4xy .can you help?(x-y)^2 - (x+y)^2[(x+y)+(x-y)] [(x+y)-(x-y)](x+y+x-y) (x+y-x+y)(2x) (2y)4xy

    +dawdi stati You are putting the (x+y) first instead of second. You are factoring (x+y)^2-(x-y)^2. When you change the order of subtraction you get opposite answers like 5-2 is 3 where 2-5 is -3. Thank you for watching:D

    at 5:09 what if i have a third term what would it be? c?

  • @profrobbob

    @profrobbob

    9 жыл бұрын

    If you have a third term you would not be factoring a binomial which is what this lesson is about. You would be factoring a trinomial so this is not the lesson you want to be watching. Judging from the example you pointed out, I am guessing your third term is an xy term, and if that is the case it would be the middle term.

  • @profrobbob

    It is a pattern that only works for multiplying binomials.

    On the 2nd problem aren't you able to pull out a GCF?

  • @profrobbob

    @profrobbob

    10 жыл бұрын

    Yes you are, and when there is a GCF you should factor it out first. I should have made that example with coefficients of 4 and 25, or I could have factored out a 4 first. Thank you for your question and watching.

    Kind of an odd question, but why do we not distribute the exponents in the last example?

  • @profrobbob

    @profrobbob

    10 жыл бұрын

    Do you mean in (x-y)^2 ? Because there is more than one term in the parenthesis you cannot distribute the power of two with the power rule. When you square a binomial the answer has 3 terms.

  • @warpedwire

    ProfRobBob Ah ok, so you can't distribute when there is more than 1 term in parenthesis?
