Rational Algebraic Expressions Simplified
Continuing to practice our new factoring skills,we work through many examples of simplifying algebraic rational expressions. NOTE: AT MINUTE 11:06 I LOST A FACTOR OF 2!!! The rest of that example is correct including my discussion about the restrictions of the domain. Sorry for the error.

As a mature home study student doing maths again after many years I've gained so much from you tube in general, with your videos being among the best of them. So I'm taking time out to say a massive thank you. They are very much appreciated. Add a mature Irish student in Holland to your fan base and take a bow. Your presentations are excellent, your manner engaging and the content very thoroughly explained. Thank you. :)
Thanks for choosing my channel to learn from and I hope you will return with all your friends whenever you need help again!
wow i learned so much more from this 25min video than one week in class. thank you so much!
Thank you so much for these videos. They're an extremely huge help and helped me pass my Pre-Calc final. You're doing a great thing and should get more views.
Thanks prof Rob Bob you really helped me learn all this in 26 min. while i didnt get it for days from my math teacher xD P.S. keep up the good job !

...and THANK YOU for actually reading the description! Sometimes I just get ahead of myself and don't want to pull the video to correct it and loose the views. I was able to make annotations in the past but they have removed that feature so now I have to depend on adding corrections to the description and not everyone reads them:( You're obviously a great student...BAM!!!
BAM!!!!....Congrats...that's a tough "A" to get from an IB class!....good for you and thank you for choosing my channel to learn from:)
Thank you for helping me prepare for my term exam in Math which is in 3 hours! Wish me luck :)
Remember you can only factor terms and not terms. The factor of 10 can be factored from the denominator, but you could just factor out 5 to match the factor of 5 in 45.
You always have great videos :D Can I ask you one question? Can you please give me the link about the video you were saying in 17:20? Thanks in Advance. Just got curious :)
I will consider that...thank you. I hope you know that if you go to my channel home page I have my videos sorted by subject. All the of Precaclulus videos I have done are in the order they appear in the book I am currently using.
This solved my problems:D Thanks to you sir,I passed my entrance exam:D

Thanks Nichole, I do know now that you took the time to thank me:) You can SUBSCRIBE and I will be there to teach you anytime you feel like learning more math...get a group of friends together and all watch my video and it will be almost like I'm your personal tutor!
Your first question can be factored to be ((x+2)(x+2))/((x+2)(x-2)). The denominator is a difference of squares. Then cancel the like factors of x+2 and you get (x+2)/(x-2). The denominator of your second question is also a difference of squares so it will factor very similar to your first question.
Thanks a lot, really well explained!
You're such a good teacher! Thank you so much!

Because of you I was the only one in my grade that got an A, and I'm in IB! thanks a lot
Can you distribute at the end of the third example?
Hey Professor! I've a question. At around the 19 minute mark there's a (x^2+3) on the denominator; if the x value that makes it zero is imaginary like in this case, would there still be a vertical asymptote? Thanks!
Yes, I did lose my two! Thank you for catching that for me:) I have a video posted about vertical asymptotes and holes in graphs. If a factor in the denominator cancels with a factor in the numerator, and it could equal zero, then the graph will have a hole at the x value that would make that cancelled factor equal zero. If the factor in the denominator cannot cancel out and it can equal zero, the graph will have a vertical asymptote at that x value.
This is so helpful, thanks a lot, Prof! I hope I pass the examination tomorrow.

thank you profrobbob because now i know how to simplify rational algebraic expressions xD
Professor RobBob, this is a straightforward video/lecture on Rational Algebraic Expressions Simplified in Algebra Two/Precalculus. The examples are beautifully explained except equal signs are missing in five of six examples. There is also an error in example one, in the final answer. Professor RobBob, your final answer is x minus 6 divided x instead of x minus six divided by 2x. Please correct this error on video.
It really helps me.Thank you sir! :)

Could someone please tell me what grade level usually does this type of math? Im refferin)g to the first problem he did.Usually 11th grade? Some other HS grade? Im so lost in my Algebra 2 class (12th) .Thanks to anyone who responds.
@profrobbob

You first learn factoring in Algebra 1 and this could be as low as 8th grade. You then reinforce factoring in Algebra 2 which could be students in 10,11, or 12th grade. Some of the later examples you may see in an Algebra 2 Honors book or PreCalculus. PreCalc is usually taken by 11th grade honors students in my school with a few seniors sprinkled in. I have an Alg 2 list here www.profrobbob.com/algebra-2 and factoring videos here kzread.info/head/PLGbL7EvScmU7ix7CX3niSxTntHtxjlwU5
so lets say i want to find the domain restrictions of the first example; would i set the denominator of the original denominator equal to zero or do i set the simplified denominator equal to zero? are holes acknowledged as domain restrictions too even though it's canceled out? thanks
@profrobbob
7 жыл бұрын
sandile13809 You set the original denominator equal to zero. Holes have x values that must be restricted from the domain since the function is undefined there. I have lessons for graphing rational functions too:)

Hi I'm confused about the restrictions. Ex: (x+1)(x+4)(x-4) over (x+4)(x-2)(x-2)(x+1), my teacher said that the restrictions are x is not equal to -4, -1, 2, 4. I don't know where he got the 4 from, can you explain? Thanks
@profrobbob

I don't know either from your question. Only -4, 2, and -1 would make the denominator undefined.

what if you had a problem like 45/10a-10?
Can you help me with a/b^2 a=3 b=6
ProfRobBob what is the answer of the following: 1.x2+4x+4/x2-4 Prof 2 is meaning of square ! 2.(a-b)2/a2-b2 thanks
thank you sir . my only problem is the signs !! i even screw up all of the equation bcz of the signs ! how do you know if you must put - or + with the number in bracket ? it confusing bcz i follow the law which says that if the last sign is (+) the two brackets follow the middle term . and if the last term sign is (-) the bigger number will follow the middle term , now this was clear but in some exmpales in the book and even in your video you didn't follow this law !! i think i didn't get the concept thats why i'm confused , please clear this issue i don't want to get C again in my next quiz :') , thank you again
